Game #69 Preview: Spurs vs. Bobcats - A let down game?

I apologize for the brevity of this preview.  Like our Spurs, I'm elated with the win.  Also, hopefully like the Spurs, I'm not overlooking this Bobcats team.  We need to continue playing Spurs basketball and Spurs focus till the playoffs.  That means crushing a Charlotte team that is also on the second night of a back to back.  I know we have the ability to come out strong, but this team also had the ability to defend very well before all the cost-cutting trades and before Larry Brown retired.  Hack preview after the jump.

Starters

PG:Parker dominated Fisher last night in the form of Roddy B and Jason Kidd.  Augustine doesn't stand a chance.

SG: Manu definitely had a cold this week again, as I saw him chewing gum again.  Last time he did that he said it was to help open the airway.  I blame the twins.  They're probably screwing with his immune system

SF: Captain Jack is scoring more than Jefferson, but RJ showed his importance during the Kings game last week.  A lot of our defensive rebounding woes have been because RJ got lazy

PF: Diaw vs. McDyess.  One of them knows how to use his skill set and looks like he was chiseled from marble, wrinkles and all.  The other just doesn't care.  Advantage Spurs

C: Umm.... Do I have to explain?

Bench

Our bench has been a staple for the whole year.  But recently it went into a funk.  Bonner seemed scared to shoot the 3 last night and it definitely hurt us at times.  Hill just seems out of sorts (girl trouble?).  Neal has been our most consistent performer, but even he can't win the Spur on his own.

Coaching

I forgot who the coach of the Bobcats was.  Advantage Spurs

Intangibles

Both played last night.  Spurs beat their rivals.

Mojo

Mojo has been with us most of the year.  I think we get it tonight

Prediction

Spurs keep it close until with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter a flurry of 3 pointers closes out the game and we cruise to a 15 point victory

Key(s) to the Game

Key 1 - Both teams excel at moving the ball to find an excellent shot.  Spurs are better at defending that sort of thing.

Key 2 - The Bobcats aren't great at defending the three.  I expect drive and kick offense to be in full gear and I hope the bench comes to play.

I wouldnt call it a letdown if the Spurs lose, more of a “Dont be surprised if they lose” game.

All of the Spurs key guys played above average minutes going into this back-to-back.

In addition, NC is not exactly a stones throw from Dallas, so that flight must be a real bitch.

Spurs need to make short work of the Bobcats and let the bench carry much of the load. GSG! (Uhm, why is Bonner’s name striked out?)

He has played like crap since the first Heat came.

those three pointers in the first Heat game must’ve drained all of his 3 pointer prowess to the point that they are non-existent

Haven’t you heard the news? The Scalabrine of the West, aka Bonner, was waived early
this morning. The FO finally came to their senses after resigning this bum to a raise prior
to the season.

Parker is a decent defender. Augustin isn’t even close when it comes to defense.

Bruno, are you going to pick on Parker tonight?

I’ve thought about getting a life, but I’m afraid it would get in the way of my Spur addiction.

by Ms. Smith on Mar 19, 2011 12:51 PM CDT up reply actions

No, I like Parker. But i will not lie, everybody knows he isn’t good defender

by BrunoNba on Mar 19, 2011 1:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Parker may not be an elite defender but in my opinion he is a good defender.
Rather than making blanket statements for everybody, I.e. Everybody knows he isn’t good defender, state it as your opinion.

by spurs fan on Mar 19, 2011 2:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Just wondered, it seemed to be Bonners turn last night. Will admit he had a bad night, but I leave that stuff up to Pop. I think he might have been teaching Bonner something. He got us some key rebounds in the 4th.

Look, either you are having a good chuckle at our expense or you lucked out when you chose us and the Nuggets blog to follow. (Have to say, that’s a stretch right there) I’m not in charge but I will ask you not to take advantage of the really nice folks that meet here to have a great time. Don’t confuse us with our team, they have far more class than some of us, me included. Never, ever call a game before it is over. The big guy is nice but don’t ever think he is stupid.

One quick question, what color is your hair?

I’ve thought about getting a life, but I’m afraid it would get in the way of my Spur addiction.

Parker is a good defender when it counts. Big difference than say Nash, who is incapable of defending.

A man gets the eye of a Tiger, but a Tiger gets the eye of a Manu.

And he defends Nash as well as any PG. Certainly knows his tendencies and has the quickness to stay with him.

I don’t think Nash is defendable by any single person.

I have seen Nash play more than any other PG except for Parker, and I have to say Nash is the best offensive point guard I have ever seen and maybe the best offensive guard at either position I have ever seen. I get the feeling he could easily forego 10 or 12apg and get 30 a night if he wanted to.

Of course, I don’t know think he could do that today, hes getting pretty old.

I didn’t think Bonner sucked that bad last night. Wasn’t doing much on offense, but he was hustling on defense and he got some tough rebounds and loose balls. Usually if he sucks on offense there’s no reason for him to be out there, but I personally was impressed by his effort defesivily.

Rufus on Fire is one of the few SBN blogs I like, if only for their pre-game pump-you-up tunes.

Anyway, I’m glad the Robertcats are also in a SEGABABA and don’t have Gerald Wallace anymore. Should be another defensive game.

At least Bobcats are also on a b2b, and their game last night was close into the 4Q. Hopefully our bench challenges themselves the bring the near 80 points our Big-3 did last game, though that will be difficult with the slow pace Charlotte plays.

This is will likely be slow and physical but let’s get the win. Go Spurs Go!
