Sunday 12.25.11 Holiday Day/Opening Day Game Thread
Good Day PTRockers! And Happy Holidays! I know it's Christmas Day, but it's also Opening Day for the 2011-12 NBA Season. It's finally here. After five and a half months of locking out, the season is finally set to open. Our beloved Spurs do not play today, but that's probably a good thing, because who needs more stress on Christmas, right? We've got five games today! A Christmas Holiday present from Commissioner Stern to all of us. Better late than never, right? Don't do us fans any favors Dave, like, oh I dunno, discounting League Pass. But hey, who cares right? Fans get to watch basketball, and for that alone we should be thankful? Yea. It's only money, and not his money. Let's get to it.
Tipping off at Noon Eastern time on TNT, the New York Knicks host the Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden. A nice big market game to get things started, eh?? Immediately following, flip to ABC to watch the defending NBA Champion our Southwest Divison rival Dallas Mavericks take on the reigning East Champs Miami Heat, in what's sure to be billed as a rematch of last years NBA Finals. Next on ABC, we shoot to LA, where Kobe and the Lakers host reigning MVP Derrick Rose and his Chicago Bulls at Staples. Flipping over to ESPN, we'll see KD and OKC hosting Dwight Howard and his Orlando Magic. And finally, to close out today's ratings bonanza, in what, 2 weeks ago would've surely been scrub game of the night, Head Coach Mark Jackson and his Golden State Warriors host reigning Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin!, Chris Paul!, Chauncey Billups!, Mo Williams!, DeAndre Jordan and the rest of the LA Clippers. Should be a gooden!

And I know I post this every year, but it never gets old. Please everyone have a happy and safe holiday, however you celebrate!

Your really not that big a SW fan? Had me fooled with the yoda schtick, the Spursyoda screename and the Xmas Yoda pic.

if its the JJ Abrams version, then it doesnt count. Abrams crapped all over Star Trek.

I wasnt a huge fan of the TV show. My best friend is though. I did like the movie.
A man gets the eye of a Tiger, but a Tiger gets the eye of a Manu.
Casting was great, but the movie wasnt geared for the 50+ years of fans. Their was a exact time line and lineage. Abrams destroyed it to commercialize with fx. Really a cargo ship from the future comes back to destroy earth? Sounds really dumb when you think about it.
Thats like a pacific ship container ship from the fututre attacking Japan. Its stupid and wrecked 50 years of history.

Tough choice in the poll, as most of the teams I might root against were playing against a similar one. I wound up picking NY as the most recent team that hopes to succeed by a big free agent signing, even though the current version of Boston is hardly a favorite.
Mavs, no question. Biggest division rival in a 66 game season. EVERY GAME COUNTS moreso this year.

I wonder how far the Clippers can go this season. Chris Paul changes everything. They have the best PG in the league, Chauncey billups as the backup, a huge frontcourt (they say Griffin doesnt defend, but the guy is a handfull on offense) and small forward who can defend. I dont know much anything about their bench, but it looks like it might be a glaring weakness.
A man gets the eye of a Tiger, but a Tiger gets the eye of a Manu.
They have Mo coming off the bench, but they really have a pretty bad bench. Next season, if they manage to sign a starting SG and someone to back up Griffin and Jordan they could be scary good. The key is how Jordan develops IMO.

Merry Christmas all. MAvs win this poll for me, and it’s not even close. I do not want to see this ring ceremony. So, as I did last year, I may skip it. Bah humbug!
I'm not as good as I once was...and that's just the cold, hard truth.
As for the poll, it has to be the Mavs, with the Lakers a close 2nd. I know the Heat are still villains to most people, but for them to be leading in this poll is just sad.
"D'oh!"
Nah, gotta be the Lakers. Can’t stand them!

for the poll question, it was tough because i don’t like the Lakers and Mavs. i was going to pick the Lakers because i dislike them the most (just by a little), but i’d rather see the Mavs lose on their championship banner rising day, so i picked the Mavs.

Ok, I would like to know who voted for the Heat. I wanna know why they prefer the Heat to lose the most rather than the Mavs or the Lakers.
"D'oh!"
I did. Wish I could vote for them twice.

Really? Why? I mean I understand most people hate LeBron a lot, but the Heat are not our rivals. The Lakers and Mavs are.
"D'oh!"
I’m ok with bending the rivalry rules, and have never been a Mavs hater anyway except head-to-head. Not gonna start against a team and franchise I’ve never liked, even before the Elbow Queen arrived along with the Ostrich. They’re my least favorite team, and that won’t change just because they’re playing a game against a traditional Spurs rival.

The Mavs might lose by 40+ on their home floor, on the night they raise the banner. This is just absolutely terrible!

When do you think well cut Danny Green for a big?

by Spurs Yoda on Dec 25, 2011 9:26 PM CST via mobile reply actions
Spurs are high on Danny Green from everything I read. At the very least, he gives them a quality defender in training camp that they can practice with.
Green will finish as a Spurs this season I think. He might not play a lot, but I think the only way he’s gone is if he’s in a trade.
