So...
Anybody heard from Tim Duncan? Is he still alive?
Or Bonner, or Tony, or George. Okay I pretty much hate everybody on the team but Manu, Tim and Gary Neal at this point. Whatever. NBA Basketball, it's Faaaantastic. Wheee.
This is gonna be so awesome.

Well, you won’t have to worry about George. Don’t think they’ll be getting rid of RJ right away, though.
First you must find... another shrubbery! Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must place it here, beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get a two layer effect with a little path running down the middle. Then, you must cut down the mightiest tree in the forrest... with... a herring!
Agreed. I just don’t think getting rid of RJ solves any of the Spurs problems. Projections still had SA close to the cap without him, and there isn’t anybody on the roster who would be an upgrade than RJ. I think we all just have to keep hoping he improves and that Leonard is as good as advertised too.
I don’t think we need anyone to be an upgrade from RJ. Finding someone who’s able to simply fill in would be fine, and more than fine when you factor in how much we were paying him. When you look at the end of the season, and the playoffs, it wouldn’t be too hard to find someone to match his production. Go back and look at his stats from some of those games and you’ll see just how little he was bringing to the table.
Then there’s the secondary factor of the development for the youngsters who’ll get playing time if RJ isn’t playing. More minutes usually (not always) means quicker ramp time.

But how many youngsters can the Spurs play at that spot? Leonard and who? I’m not sure in this shortened season Pop is going to be willing to trust a young guy to learn the system. And not to mention trying to bring a new guy in during a shortened training camp. Look how long it took him to play Splitter.
Trust me, I’m not enjoying the thought of another year (or sadly years) of RJ, but I’m just not sure their are going to be other or better options at this point.
I think there are good points on both sides. Guess we’ll need a post dedicated to this issue soon, so the whole site can sift this one out.

No joke!

if they get rid of RJ
i would love to see the spurs pick up on someone like tayshaun prince or someone else that fits in well with the club philosophy. with george hill gone we could definitely use a physical perimiter defender.

I want Kirilenko. One of the few SF’s who can get away with defending the 4.

Depends on the 4 right?
Anyway what about Battier? I mean we could get him for cheap and he hits the 3’s solid will still being a decent defender.

Around these parts, we’ve been wishing for Battier for the past 3-4 years.
I’m starting to think it’ll never happen.

I agree, JRW. I believe the Battier dream will be only that. Especially since he had a hand in knocking the Spurs out of the playoffs last spring. If I’m him, I resign with the Grizz for whatever they offer me. He’s seen his best paydays.

Jonas Jerebko and Luc Mbah a Moute are also 2 guys who I would like to see us get before Kirlienko due to contract size and age

Why would we want Mbah a Moute when he couldn’t even stop this play from happening?

i can't wait to see how kawhi leonard does in this role
watched him all through college (go aztecs!) and would love to see how his defense and rebounding translates to the NBA. hope pop gets him in the rotation quickly. Him and dejuan could be real thumpers down low.

I think Kawhi will do fine if given minutes. Rebounding always translates well and the guy is a good defender so as long as he can knock down open shots at a decent clip and don’t turn the ball over a lot he will be fine. I think…… I hope

yeah that’s my only worry… he is a bit trigger-happy/a chucker when it comes to midrange shots. his post moves might not be as hot in the pros since 6’7 makes him a decent sized but not exactly big forward. he can learn a lot from a guy like timmah.

Pop will cure that chuckiness in a hurry. Guaranteed.
"I know everthang they is to know about the shrimpin bidness."
Yeah, in the same way he cured it with Gary Neal: by telling him “If you’re open and you don’t take the shot, I’ll bench you. You’re on the court to run our offense and in our offense open players shoot!”

If he has solid post moves that is a great to have as a small forward. There is not a lot of small forwards that post up so it would be something for the small forwards checking him would have to adjust to big time.
He shot a lot in school because he was there best player and leader. So it is understandable why he shot so much. I think he already knows he is just a small cog in this teams offense. So that might help his efficiency big time. He just has to knock down those open jumpers and finish solid or draw fouls when going to the rim and he will be successful early on with our guys. If he has gotten better with his handles like he has been trying to do that is only a plus for him and the team

He re-built his jump shot for proper mechanics. This should help things out going forward.

Yeah I’ve seen a lot of videos of him before the draft and after working on proper technique. He seems like a really hard worker and I’m happy people have informed him on real things he needs to get better at to succeed in the league

Yeah. I saw a piece on him working to shoot with a higher arc on his threes.
I’ll bet he’s been practicing like a manman all lockout long.

oh right, I forgot they traded George. Der. I’ve kind of been a football zombie these past few months because of work.

Hah, correct you are. Tim C. told me where I could check on Tony’s injury, and that’s where I read that he had already played his last game in Asvel uniform. That was the day before I went to the Asvel game.
Optimistic as I am, I was hoping for an exciting game then. No dice. Oh well, got some nice pictures. Maybe I’ll post my picasa link later on.

Ah… it’s nice to have some place to visit other than my online classes. To read others getting zinged and not having to worry about it cause it’s just not cool to be mean to the old lady.
Going to get to watch my Spurs play this year after all, see old man Duncan play what is probably going to be his last year. Okay, think of something else, this is supposed to be a happy time!
That being said, I am going to just be happy to see the Spurs play, not really concerned about where they end up at the end of the season, I’ll let you guys hammer that stuff out. Now not saying I’m not going to enjoy reading while you guys stress yourselves out trying to figure ol’ Pop out.
Must be that it is Finals next week and then I get a month off, relieved that I am going to be able to watch BB, not a football fan AND that we’re not going to miss Timmy D’s last year.
I’ve thought about getting a life, but I’m afraid it would get in the way of my Spur addiction.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the lockout actually makes it more likely that RJ stays. It helps the older guys like Manu and Duncan though. Perhaps it’ll encourage McDyess to play another year.

agree
the spurs pushing for the amnesty clause able to be used any year (not just this year) has RJ written all over it…for next year
imo the is 0% chance they ditch RJ this year, and if we did there would be way to many questions at SF
We’ll know more after Wed’s meet with Carter (ugh!) and Howard.
