Shout out to our Egyptian Pounders
I know many of us are monitoring the conflict occurring in Egypt. We all hope the situation will be resolved quickly and with a minimum of blood shed. I also hope a freer and more democratic government will be in power soon.
As importantly, I hope our Egyptian Spurs fans and their friends and families are safe and sound. Heshamkm and Spoiled, y'all have been on my mind lately and if you have a moment please drop us a line. (Let's hope the internet shutdown is a temporary inconvenience instead of a long term government censorship issue). Anyway, let us know how you're doing.
Be safe and Power to the People!

man they shut down the internet and everything. the people want to take back there country which is probably been corrupted for years. that might happen in the usa if dont stop printing money. they make the protesters out to be the bad people when all they are trying to do is bring the dirt from under the carpet out into the open. the government dont like it so they try to shut everybody up with silencing the internet. WOW this shi^ is crazy. hope it dont happen here.

I can tell you this, the next few years won’t be easy. As you said, the government continues to print money, which further devalues it. The people who will be affected by that the most: the poor and disenfranchised. Protests over here is not outside the realm of possibility.

Yes. Living in that dictator bubble for thirty years tends to skew ones sense of reality, it seems.
But, at the risk of trivializing this, it’s a lot like the Spur’s season; not over by a long shot. The man seems weak at the moment, but I’m sure he won’t be easy to get rid of. It all depends on what the army does. Could be like Tunisia, or could be like Tienanmen. I’m hoping for the former, but it’s hard to tell at this point.

One reason the Spurs have been so positive for me this past decade is because of the many truly crappy things going on in the world. I hope and pray for a brighter, more peaceful, more democratic future for Egypt, and for its Arab neighbors. I also hope for an end to the Egyptian government assaulting its own people with tear gas canisters labeled, “Made in the USA.” An end to my country rendering prisoners secretly to Egypt to be tortured by their brutal secret police; I want both of these things to be part of the past. Man, I could go on, but I’ll leave it at that. I look forward to a time when the things my country exports consist mainly of jazz, rock and roll, democracy, and basketball, four things that truly make me proud to say I am an American.
To my brothers and sisters of Egypt, and everywhere else on this little planet of ours, peace and love.

demorcratic will not fix anything. neither will republican. they are both desighned to make us argue and divide. what the people in egypt are doing is something positive for there country. they are showing that they can unite and stand strong together. we the people are the government"together". people in america are brainwashed with propaganda and believe everything the TV tells them. As far as egypt goes its probably way worse than they are showing. the tv show us what we want to here. they pass a bill that fu@*s everybody and people worry about whats happening in hollywood or who is cheating on who, what to wear, what to eat, who hot and whos not. i know this might offend you but the gov leaders do not get the same health care , they dont pay taxes, and they take are rights away with false flag terror. more and more security has been planted in after the attack of 9/11. Egypt has risen for the revolution and im afraid to say but more than likely people in america will have a civil war or go into a revolution. the money will devalue and the price of food and gas will go up. if you see gas go up pay attention to your food cause its going to rise to. (if you dont know why its bc the oil gets more pricey and it cost more to ship the product)

lets see they shut down the internet in egypt. our leader just got thru passing a bill where they can sensor the internet. why ? bc the wiki leaks documents that were released. notice our government did not deny any of the doc. they lock the guy up instead and have wiki leaks shut him down. but this shit has been happening.

The internet “off switch” bill is Joe Lieberman’s. It did not pass, but it will be sent back through again even though Joe has announced his retirement. The Patriot Acts already pretty well give the president any power he wants though. All that has to be done is to call official Marshall Law and all constitutional bets are off.

Okay, I really really hate to be the voice of reason here, but can we please stick to the subject for once? The situation in Egypt is highly sensitive and rapidly evolving, there are a lot of factors at work and one or two posts really don’t do it justice. As much as I love to discuss foreign policy, even I know that talking politics in a sports site tends to devolve pretty quickly into all-out arguments. Even more so when you stop talking about other countries and focus on the situation in the U.S.
Bellasa made a nice post concerned about the situation in Egypt and the PtR-ers that live there, let’s not fucking ruin it please. If there still a need to talk about it we can make a DTOUR thread and just go at it there, where pictures of LOLCATS can soften sharp arguments.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.

Ah, all the years of pleading for you to embrace logic and rational thought have somehow paid off. Well said and on point, my normally-anarchist friend. I proudly rec you.

Hey, I really appreciate you putting this up and remembering me despite my long long absence. I just arrived in Istanbul from Cairo today, courtesy of the US Embassy. It’s been a crazy week ever since the protests started, especially after Friday, when they shut down the internet and the phones. I was stuck at home from Friday all the way up until this morning when I went to the airport. There were at least three prison breaks and with the disappearance of the the entire police system on Saturday, people were forced to go into the streets grabbing anything they could turn into a weapon from their homes to prevent looters from entering their neighborhoods. Several times over the past few days there would be gunfire pretty close by, but the “neighborhood watches” did a great job rounding this people up and handing them to the army who had parked tanks and armored vehicles in the main streets of Cairo. I’m staying here for a couple of days and then I’m heading to the US, for at least a week, I guess. Dunno when I’ll head back, or even if I will, I’m thinking about looking a for a job in the States and just staying there. We’ll see how it goes.

I’m so happy to know you’re safe and sound.
It’s like one our PtR family members is getting in much later than curfew. We’re just happy you made it! Please don’t be a stranger… ( I know, I know… pot calling the kettle black).
Welcome back, Heshamkm.
