Y! Rumors: Amundson headed to Hornets
Free-agent forward Louis Amundson(notes) had the Golden State Warriors, New Orleans Hornets and Indiana Pacers interested in him this offseason. According to Newsday, the 6-9, 238-pound forward will end up with the Hornets, his fourth team in five seasons.
Amundson averaged 4.7 points and 4.4 rebounds last season for the Phoenix Suns.
Newsday reports that once Amundson decides, the Pacers and Warriors will shift their focus on Earl Barron, the 7-footer who isn't expected to be brought back by the New York Knicks. Barron averaged 11.7 points, 11 rebounds and .6 blocks per game last season.

Demps probably noticed, as many Spurs fans did, how well Amundson played against San Antonio in the playoff sweep. I really would like to see him in the Silver and Black, but he probably wouldn’t get many minutes playing behind our other bigs. At this point, I’m starting to think that Fab is our best option for a 6th big… he knows the system and could help Splitter reach his potential.
Hey, if posting a sharp, insightful, yet non-sarcastic comment were that easy, even olf would do it.

Fab’s got some miles on him, but I’d have zero bones about bringing Fab back. As far as we know, he’s staying in the States, right?
If we wanted another veteran, Fab is perfect. I think we need a young athletic guy with height as our 6th big. Gist, Wilkerson, and Richards would be far preferable to me.
Fab is better because he doesn’t need minutes. Both him and the Spurs should be content with him practicing and playing garbage time. Any of the young guys would just become a new Yawn, but Fab doesn’t need to play to have a positive impact on the team.

The 6th big isn’t in a position to have an impact on the team. Fab, to me, is a waste of a roster spot. Getting a guy like Gist, Wilkerson, or Richards in the system and learning with the team and maybe with the Toros is huge.
It’s not fair to any of those guys to compare them to Ian yet. It’s probably not fair to Ian either. The guy was a late first rounder who had serious injury setbacks yet has persisted in the NBA getting a second contract. When you draft legitimate height with athleticism in the end of the first round that is willing to spend time in the D League, you know going in that this is a high risk endeavor.
I think the guys you mention likely would get nothing but garbage time minutes on the Spurs bench, and would be better off playing instead on the Toros or over in Europe. It would be good if they signed a Toros contract and then aren’t included on the 15 man roster (though they could then sign with other teams). IF they were not using a roster spot and one were open, it could be better to have Fab being the guy that sits around looking good in a sport coat and suits up every so often when Tim or Dice take a night off, then trying to swing someone back and forth from Austin. I’m not so sure Fab would accept that role or not, as he might prefer returning to Europe.
Could Fab be added to the coaching staff and left off the player roster except for those rare occasions where he might be needed, then use a 10 day contract?
We lose all of their rights if those players sign up for the D League draft instead of being on Toros assignment from the Spurs. We need to handle them like how we handled Hairston and Mahinmi. We need to get one or two of them in the Spurs system getting minutes where they can in the NBA but mainly gaining some Spurs knowledge and building team chemistry while we find out if they fit. Its a low risk, high reward endeavor.
Fab is really low risk, low reward at this point. He’d be better suited on another team.

True, though I am looking at signing Fab more as insurance in case one of the other bigs needs to rest or gets injured more than in terms of a risk/reward scenario. If Splitter’s “thigh contusion” turns out to be worse than we hope or expect, we’ll be glad to have Oberto under contract this season.

Ah , to heck with this guy. I bet Dejuan will be just as bothersome of a thorn to their team.
