Are We Missing Something in PG Huertas
I know all the knocks on Huertas, his arms are too short, he's too old, etc etc etc. HOWEVER, against the US team he accorded himself quite well. Huertas was the Field General for Brazil against the USA and did it playing against some pretty stiff competition. He has outstanding court vision ala Steve Nash and playing against Billups and Rose he more than held his own. I would be very happy to have him as our backup point guard.

BTW, Splitter outplayed Odom and made Kevin Love and Tyson Chandler look like rookies. All Chandler could accomplish was 3 quick fouls. Love spent a good part of his time wondering where Splitter had gone. I saw much more than just pick and roll from Splitter.
Its why I recorded the game so I could watch it over and over. Chandler had 3 fouls in about 10 minutes he was in. That sounds like a rookie or maybe Yawn Mahinmi. Love spent a lot of time looking around, wondering where Splitter went. Remember, Splitter was also playing 1 on 3 against USA’s bigs. Varajao and Brazil’s other Bigs are hurt, so there was little left to give Splitter some blow. Had Varajao been in the game the US would have lost. Much of the remaining credit has to go to Huertas and Barbosa. Huertas runs a tight ship when he is the Point Guard. Niether Billups, Rose, nor Westbrook gave him too much problem.
My bad on the 3 fouls for Chandler. He had one and another in which he was all over Splitter and then Durant touched Splitter and was called for the foul. The announcer first called it for Chandler (who should have gotten the foul). The announcer also said 3 fouls for Chandler when his 5 minutes were done, but he meant to say three fouls for Odem instead. As far as Love, just watch Splitters 2 dunks, one at the next to last play of both the 1st and 2nd qtrs. Neither time was Love, or anyone else within 10 feet of Splitter. Great passes each time from Huertas.
Based on that one game, i’d say i was surprised he’s not in the NBA. But i also think we’re fine with the 3.5 pg’s we have now.

I agree as far as our PGs go, but I’d be interested in who you’re counting as our half a poing guard.

I’m not sure what Steve’s thoughts are, but I’ll add them up the way I see them:
Tony – 1
Hill – .5
Manu – .5
Temple – .5
Neal – .5
Total – 3
I know Neal didn’t really display his PG skills in the summer league, but I’ve read about him leading plays in Italy most of the time. It’s arguable that Temple could be considered a full PG, which might be what Steve was thinking, but it’s a little too early for that in my opinion.

I was thinking:
Tony: 1
Hill: .5
Manu: .5
Temple: 1 (yes, i think he is better at running the offense/creating than George)
Neal: .5
So you pretty much read my mind :)

Neal’s gotta be a .2 or .3, right?
I’d bump Hill up (.6) and Manu down (.4) but it’s negligible to the total.
I’d bump … Manu down
Oh no you wouldn’t!
NOBODY bumps Manu down and gets away with it.

Originallyi had Manu at a 1.5, which is closer to his actual position than his contribution to the PG total.

And from what i’ve read about Neal, he’s done the combo guard/borderline PG thing in Europe the past few years. Just giving him the benefit of the doubt.
I mean, ROMAJU would have been almost a .5, right?

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been thinking to myself. Neal as a Romaju replacement. Hopefully Neal can outperform Rog in both offensive roles.

Really, BlaseE? Why? Usage? Because Manu is about 145 times the passer Hill is.
I smell death... everywhere.
it just seems he is our top SG even with his passing abilities and that it fits with our lineups better for him to be slightly less in terms of PG role despite his playmaking abilities and positional transcendence
I see what you mean. But we should look back at Wayne’s post about what a PG should be. Because a high number of the possessions involve Hill taking the ball up the court (PG duty) and then giving it to Manu, to let him create (PG duty).

THAT’S where SpurfanSteve’s .5 of a pg comes from!
