DTOUR: 05:06:07 08/09/10 just passed.
... and I'm still not a better person nor basketball player because of it.
Thanks to Manu Ginobili (via Twitter) for pointing out that little bit of chronological history that no mortal man might've thought of.
Did u guys realized that a few hours ago it was 05:06:07 08.09.10. Just a comment. Doesn't happen very often.
"Doesn't happen very often" -- is really a very modest way of describing yourself to us, Manu, but no need to flatter yourself. We know who you are.
You are a golden god.
And by your grace, we are able to move on, with limbs intact and minds right, past this cosmic event.
Thank you.

I was thinking about posting a DTOUR Free For All, since I’ve been absent for the last week, but this was a much better subject, davis. And it’s rather ironic that I had to go to Southern California to find cooler weather.
Hah, that is pretty ironic. Hope the fog didn’t slow you down.

I saw that on MYSA , trust Manu to have noticed it. My Emily turns 12 on the 12th, says it is her special birthday because it only happens once in your life. Never thought of that before! So we’re making it a special birthday that is being celebrated from the 12th through the 15th. Party with her friends at the pool on the 12th, day at the beach on the 13th, party with her Dad’s family on the 14th then finally party with our family on the 15th. We should be partied out by then. Of course next year she’s going to claim that turning 13 deserves the same thing! Good luck with that kiddo.

Yeah, thirteen is a whole other thing:

I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
Oh yeah, but she has me to deal with!! Still mostly sweet little girl, but like I tell her I still remember that age. And she thinks I’m psychic because I can tell when she lies to me. Eyes down and to the left, every time.
I know she sounds spoiled with all of the parties but when a kid is from a divorced family, this and Christmas is the only time it’s a positive thing. Daddy isn’t very involved for the most part but she has uncles that try to make up the difference. Sweet and loving kid, makes it easy. Self esteem and respect is what it’s all about.

It would make SO much more sense if we did it day/month/year, but I don’t think that’ll ever change in the U.S.

Seriously. It should be year/month/day or day/month/year. the US way is just a strange order.

This one is for people who like photography. I don’t know about other people, but seeing footage or pictures in black and white make it seem like it’s not real, like it’s always been part of history, so to see these pictures in color you realize is a little surreal:

Nice stuff. It looks a little strange to me as they have added some sharpening and saturation to those images so it is a weird mix of a “film look” and a “digital look”. I would have preferred a little less processing myself.
Lauri: thank goodness I have you magnificent bastards to waste [the offseason] with.
You sure they did any processing? I thought that was just how early color slide film looked.

I’m pretty miffed at myself for missing this. Both times. I feel like I should have been doing something momentous.
On an unrelated note, yesterday I bought my first pair of TOMS Shoes. Très magnifique! I was at the WC Global Leadership Summit last week (long story) and one of the speakers was the founder of the company (he had been on The Amazing Race, which peaked my interest). Anyway, for every pair of shoes you buy, they give a pair to a needy kid in a third-world country, where they usually have to have to shoes to go to school, not to mention avoid disease and injury from walking on, like, volcanic rock and stuff.
I forgot to mention the most important part—they’re modeled after the traditional Argentine slip-on. That’s why the logo has your familiar blue and white stripes.
Also, peaked ≠ piqued.

I saw a guy at a Spurs game with these and then my girlfriend hunted out this website: Vibram Five Fingers
I actually know someone who’s so into those. I don’t like it, it looks fugly but does seem to look very comfortable.

It is further. I drove through Cedar Park a couple years ago, when I decided to taker the scenic route home from SA. I think you have to use a toll road to get there, too.

Just reminding everyone, schedule comes out today at 2:00 (I’m guessing Eastern) so 1:00 Spurs Time. It’s like a holiday!
Slate’s take on Pele vs. Maradona. So what do the plethora of PtR futbol fans think? Or should other players be considered, like Cruyff (who I know nothing about)?
Pele has been romanticized so much over the years it is always interesting to see that he can be snippy as well. Maradona has always been known as crazy but insanely talented. IMO Pele should have just shut up and been classy all the way, and people would over time fondly remember him as the greatest and classiest ever, but he ruined it by opening his mouth and having people actually look at the facts.
You cannot honestly compare the two though, it would be like comparing Wilt and Jordan. Different times.
Lauri: thank goodness I have you magnificent bastards to waste [the offseason] with.
I think it’s great because it shows that just as people can be great at something in completely different ways, they can also be dicks in completely different ways.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
Is that a self-description Hipuks?

I wish, but I’m not really great at anything.

No, I meant the whole thing. I suspect Hipuks would be a great artist and writer and strikes me as someone that could be great at a lot of things, but could also easily offend certain types of people, or have some of his art/writings go completely over someone’s head.
Conjecture, of course, based on limited reading of his comments here.

Interesting to think about. Manu be really bored right now :lol. He looks like he’s even started playing a new sport called Football tennis (since he can’t play basketball this summer). I heard he was even calling the coach of his NT everyday and checking out what was going on.

Where’d you get the photo? And oh noes, he’s using his ankles!

Hey if repeating as champions were that easy even the Spurs could do it.

That’s a classic fight scene from Monty Python’s Holy Grail. I’m not a Monty Python expert or lover and the scene may start a little slow but is definitely worth the three minutes it takes to watch it.

I’m really surprised that GT didn’t propose that Barnes slap Pop, and trade Tony.

Most of his ire was saved for Gregg Popovich, as the game of basketball has obviously passed by the senile old man.

Ah, reading that phrase was like stepping into an old pair of comfortable shoes.
Of course, in this case, the shoes stink to high heaven, but I was able to push through and reminesce anyway.
