DTOUR: 05:06:07 08/09/10 just passed.

Alarmclocksmash_medium

... and I'm still not a better person nor basketball player because of it.

Star-divide

Thanks to Manu Ginobili (via Twitter) for pointing out that little bit of chronological history that no mortal man might've thought of.

Did u guys realized that a few hours ago it was 05:06:07 08.09.10. Just a comment. Doesn't happen very often.

"Doesn't happen very often" -- is really a very modest way of describing yourself to us, Manu, but no need to flatter yourself.  We know who you are.

You are a golden god.

And by your grace, we are able to move on, with limbs intact and minds right, past this cosmic event.

Thank you.

I was thinking about posting a DTOUR Free For All, since I’ve been absent for the last week, but this was a much better subject, davis. And it’s rather ironic that I had to go to Southern California to find cooler weather.

I saw that on MYSA , trust Manu to have noticed it. My Emily turns 12 on the 12th, says it is her special birthday because it only happens once in your life. Never thought of that before! So we’re making it a special birthday that is being celebrated from the 12th through the 15th. Party with her friends at the pool on the 12th, day at the beach on the 13th, party with her Dad’s family on the 14th then finally party with our family on the 15th. We should be partied out by then. Of course next year she’s going to claim that turning 13 deserves the same thing! Good luck with that kiddo.

Oh yeah, but she has me to deal with!! Still mostly sweet little girl, but like I tell her I still remember that age. And she thinks I’m psychic because I can tell when she lies to me. Eyes down and to the left, every time.

I know she sounds spoiled with all of the parties but when a kid is from a divorced family, this and Christmas is the only time it’s a positive thing. Daddy isn’t very involved for the most part but she has uncles that try to make up the difference. Sweet and loving kid, makes it easy. Self esteem and respect is what it’s all about.

This one is for people who like photography. I don’t know about other people, but seeing footage or pictures in black and white make it seem like it’s not real, like it’s always been part of history, so to see these pictures in color you realize is a little surreal:

Nice stuff. It looks a little strange to me as they have added some sharpening and saturation to those images so it is a weird mix of a “film look” and a “digital look”. I would have preferred a little less processing myself.

by doggydogworld on Aug 13, 2010 11:27 AM CDT up reply actions

I think slide film can have that saturated look, but would expect some fading over time. However the sharpening is definitely not natural.

I’m pretty miffed at myself for missing this. Both times. I feel like I should have been doing something momentous.

On an unrelated note, yesterday I bought my first pair of TOMS Shoes. Très magnifique! I was at the WC Global Leadership Summit last week (long story) and one of the speakers was the founder of the company (he had been on The Amazing Race, which peaked my interest). Anyway, for every pair of shoes you buy, they give a pair to a needy kid in a third-world country, where they usually have to have to shoes to go to school, not to mention avoid disease and injury from walking on, like, volcanic rock and stuff.

by CapHill on Aug 10, 2010 2:12 PM CDT reply actions

Pele has been romanticized so much over the years it is always interesting to see that he can be snippy as well. Maradona has always been known as crazy but insanely talented. IMO Pele should have just shut up and been classy all the way, and people would over time fondly remember him as the greatest and classiest ever, but he ruined it by opening his mouth and having people actually look at the facts.
You cannot honestly compare the two though, it would be like comparing Wilt and Jordan. Different times.
