MySA: Hairston requested release
I don't blame him. Sounds like the team was wanting to keep him, but this was a better deal for him.

I know Malik is popular here, and I certainly wish him well.
Given that we swapped Goran Dragic’s draft rights with the Suns for Malik’s, I’d have to say the deal worked out better for Phoenix than it did for San Antonio. Not that the Spurs intended to keep Dragic — what would the team do with ANOTHER PG - but it still riles me a bit that he led the Suns’ 2nd unit that torched the Spurs in last season’s 2nd round sweep. :|

I believe the other 2nd round pick that San Antonio received was used to draft Dejuan Blair, so time will tell who will have gotten the better end of the deal.

I did not think of that — your memory is better than mine. (I just checked and you’re right.) I feel much better about the deal already, so much so that I now think that the Spurs got the best of it (since Blair is arguably worth a late first round draft pick since the concerns about his ACLs, or lack of them, caused him to drop unexpectedly to the 37th spot.)
Rec’d. To the 37th pick

ooops, that strikeout was unintended, I guess double-dashes triggers them? Let’s see — testing.
