Carmelo Anthony Is Not An Elite Player - ESPN Insider
As requested, I'm posting this as a FanShot so that it's easier to read than the comment I posted to this FanPost.
I'll preface this FS by saying that I’m usually not a big fan of ESPN, ESPN Insider, or their analysis team except maybe Hollinger, who I respect. But I came across this recent piece by Tom Haberstroh, and there are times you have to give the devil his due. I admit to having a biased view, as I agree with many of Haberstroh's points about 'Melo, but would be furious if he made similar criticisms about Tony, Manu, Timmy, or even RJ. :)

This article was the Genesis for the Fanpost comparing Jefferson to Melo. It is a testament to the Spurs mgmt team that we have few if any Melo’s (too much ME in Melo) on the team. In fact Melo and Team seem to be direct opposites. A significant part of my problem with TP was his statement last year that “He had to be who he was” after being asked to be more of a distributor PG. My idea of TEAM is that each player does whatever is necessary to make the TEAM better. Its why I like Manu, Hill, Blair, Tim – ego doesn’t seem to follow them. Hopefully Splitter, Anderson, Temple, etc have the same attitude. If not, they won’t last long with the team. RJ may have suffered from too much no-ego last year though.
Thanks for closing the circle on this FC1… it’s interesting that the discussion of your FanPost led me back to the very article that inspired your FP.
Actually, I wasn’t going to post a FS for this, but both jrw and SiMA asked me for the link to the article when I posted the text of this article in the comments section of your FP, and jrw suggested I post a FS and its link in your comments. I hope that’s clear… :)
Hey, if posting a sharp, insightful, yet non-sarcastic comment were that easy, even olf would do it.

That is an interesting take on things FC1. The way I remember it, TP tried to be a distributing point guard for about a month at it was terrible, and Pop yelled at him to be more aggressive. That is about the time I changed my mind about Tony the other way and posted that Pop helped mold him to be the way he is.
Interesting how two people can hear and read presumably the same interviews and come away with such different viewpoints.
Lauri: thank goodness I have you magnificent bastards to waste [the offseason] with.
