Raptors to release Dwayne Jones
Maybe he can be the extra big man that some of the people in PTR want?

We should get him into training camp even if we don’t have the roster space just to keep him out of other teams’ camps.
A 6’10 250 lb athletic rebound machine*? Hell yeah, might as well take a look.
- from what I remember in D-league play
"We suck on 'D. Both individually and team-wise, we suck. We're pretty consistent that way. I don't know if I have an answer to that. If I did, we wouldn't suck quite so bad." - Popovich

Hirschof: I 100% agree.
This guy is certainly big enough to give us a little more depth with our bigs, He’s also mobile enough to not be a liability on defense, however I can’t say the same for his offensive game. But heck, with the slashing scorers we have in our back-court, Timmy, and Antonio and Blair’s combined contributions, this would very much be a signing to bolster our defense. We could definitely use his size against the Lakers, thats for sure.
My only hesitation is we have a pretty good frontcourt as it is on paper with the recent signing of Splitter. Also, Blair and Antonio aren’t to shabby on the defensive end, although Blair could definitely improve. Also, Blair is short, but he makes up for it with his stocky stature and freakish wingspan. Bonner isn’t too bad, although he has proven to be a defensive liability in the past despite his gifted shooting
Another area I see signing him possibly hurting us is his roster spot making it harder for guys like Gist, Temple, and Neal to find playing time, even if Dwayne doesn’t see much playing time.
That being said, I agree very much with you though that he is indeed well worth evaluating in training camp. Who knows, maybe he ends up fitting the Spurs defensive needs fairly well!
If Manu were a fish, he'd be a Spanish speaking bat killing shark with heat vision.
A young near-7-footer with a large wingspan is available for around $1M? Hell yes. He’d be a nice backup to have, could give Timmy some rest and/or be insurance for the injury bug. I don’t care so much about his offense, it’s his defense that’ll matter. And it’d be nice to have a Dwayne of our own.
Thing is, how likely is it that the Spurs would be to get him? Would some other team claim him off waivers?
Hey, if posting a sharp, insightful, yet non-sarcastic comment were that easy, even olf would do it.

If he has any D-League eligibility remaining it would seem to make it more likely that he could be added to the roster and then assigned to the Toros until needed. If he can’t be assigned to the Toros while on the roster, it would seem a shame to have him just sit around is his suit the majority of the time like Ian did last year.
