Forgot to add, thought you meant wall as in a Facebook “wall” — wasn’t sure how that would work for a team’s season schedule, but thought the concept was interesting. :)

jalberto, you used Tim’s fistpump from the ‘08 G1 Suns overtime game, didn’t you? Nice choice.

Nice wall paper jalberto! off topic but Spurs related you guys may want to check this out! http://projectspurs.com/2010-articles/august/grading-the-spurs-offseason-moves.html Thanks!

by Robby23 on Aug 11, 2010 7:11 PM CDT reply actions

Nice article, thanks for the link.

I would have given the Spurs a higher overall grade — I think Hollinger gave them an “A” - but of course the problem with assigning any grade is that until the season plays out, the rating is based on potential and hope, not actual results. For example, I would’ve rated the trade for RJ last year as an A or A at the time (even though I really hated to let Bowen, Oberto, and Thomas go), but after the season, I’d have to give it a B- or C+.

Still, I think someone said that the Splitter signing was the best signing under $20M (or something like that), so I think it deserves an A+. The RJ signing may seem expensive now, considering last year’s production, but his opt-out gave the team flexibility to sign him, Splitter, and Bonner for the same money the Spurs were obligated to pay him if he had not opted out.

Anyway, this thread is about jalberto’s terrific wallpaper. We should take this elsewhere… could you maybe do a FanShot?

yikes, I didn’t mean to strike out anything above, just an artifact of the way the editor interprets double dashes. Please consider everything in my post above that was struck out, not struck out. Thanks.

Sigh.

Thanks for the read

It would be nice if you actually posted your comment on the site itself at http://projectspurs.com let’s make discussions there we are all Spurs fans anyway. Thanks for the read. About Tiago I have no problems about giving him an A+ the only thing that holds me back is how will his play translate into the NBA.

I gave the Spurs an overall grade of B because of a lot of factors, not adding a defensive wing is one of them. But maybe Anderson or Gee will be that guy.

And you’re right this post is all about jalberto’s awesome wallpapers again thanks!

We should start posting tutorials on how to do some photoshop tricks, the only problem is most of us probably do not have photoshop. Hmmm…

Well there is GIMP, the open-source alternative to PhotoShop.

by freshtunarightofftheboat on Aug 16, 2010 9:53 PM CDT up reply actions

Do you use GIMP much? If so, are you Win or Mac?

I use PhotoShop, but a friend of mine has a Mac, and lives too far away for me to effectively tutor. Also, said friend is clueless about resizing images, which her hosting company is forcing her to do because of the size of her blog. Was wondering if setting her up on GIMP would be preferreble to trying to walk her through a similiar process using iPhoto, which she already has.

Btw. LD uses GIMP (he recommended it to me as an alternative to Photoshop). I don’t use it though.

Hey if repeating as champions were that easy even the Spurs could do it.

by olf on Aug 17, 2010 11:21 AM CDT up reply actions

It’s pretty similar to Photoshop. If someone needs a Corel clone, Inkscape is good.

I smell death... everywhere.

by LatinD on Aug 19, 2010 7:28 PM CDT up reply actions

I don’t use GIMP much, it’s way more powerful than my needs. Using it to resize images would be like digging out your 314-blade Swiss Army knife to pick your teeth or tweeze your eyebrows.

If your friend has access to a Windows machine (or can run Windows via BootCamp or VMware Fusion or something similar), I’d recommend using the freeware program irfanview for resizing. I’m sure there’s something similar to it for Mac…. actually, now that I think about it, there’s probably an open-source command-line program available for the Mac that can be used to handle image resizing and manipulation. OS X is, after all, a Unix-based operating system under the hood.

I’m neither Win nor Mac… well, that’s not really true. I’m stuck on Win right now, but am normally not.

Asking my friend to go command-line would be like asking the average citizen to carry your 314-blade Swiss Army knife.

lol! You’re probably right. But doesn’t the Mac have something like Windows’ shortcuts that can be associated with a desktop icon?

I thought about mentioning GIMP. I set up a friend with it and it has more features than I expected. I am already very familiar with photoshop so any tutorials by me would have to be PS. I do not want to learn GIMP as shortcuts get confused e.g. when I tried it I kept instinctively using PS shortcuts and doing strange things to my project.

using PS shortcuts and doing strange things to my project

I hate using the wrong shortcut in PS. Some things can’t be fixed with a simple Control Z.

I was using PS shortcuts in gimp. Luckily for me control Z is also “undo” instead of, say, “exit without saving” or “email inappropriate love notes to bubba”.

There used to be a way to automatically translate shortcuts… don’t ask me how. (They have a lot in common, though.)
