Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Malik Hairston won't be joining #spurs in Vegas after all. Replaced on roster by Michael Cuffee, a G from Middle Tenn State.

Rookie James Anderson is expected to join #spurs in Vegas, but won't play due to lingering hamstring issue.

What’s the source on this news?

While complacency costs, perseverance pays

i think this is because his roster spot is going to be guaranteed and he was the only third year player on our summer team

by BlaseE on Jul 9, 2010 12:45 PM CDT reply actions

he also finished the season hurt…..so there is that too

by BlaseE on Jul 9, 2010 12:45 PM CDT up reply actions

He’s probably just going to have to earn it in Training camp. Summer League will help more of who else will be there to compete. Makes sense.

by grego21 on Jul 9, 2010 2:30 PM CDT up reply actions

That is one of the benefits of having so many guards. When training camp starts the competition will make them all better.

Also allows them to stack invites against their current, more talented players to see if they are a possible diamond in the rough.

Where’s that from?

Jeff McDonald’s twitter.

It’s been updated on the Spurs website as well.

"We'll see how our character is," guard Tony Parker said. "We don't have time to be sad. Nobody cares. It's just us. We're the only ones who can help each other."

OR

He could have been traded.

We specialize in misinformation around here. Facts and stats just get in the way.

by Wayne Vore (ATS) on Jul 9, 2010 3:04 PM CDT reply actions

Maybe. Although its hard to see that happening without a bigger deal attached. I’d bet on very unlikely though.

by grego21 on Jul 9, 2010 3:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh definitely. If he was traded, he’d be part of a larger deal.

JMcDonald_SAEN Why Hairston won’t play in Vegas: “I think we’re comfortable with what he can do,” Coach Bud says. “He’s already got a lot of fans here.”

Aka…. He’ll have the pressure during camp and pre-season to perform and prove himself that he’s improved.

are they not comfortable with what Blair can do?

Blair i think insisted. Blair was a little more raw in some areas. He’s been working hard with Chip and I’m sure he’ll focus on shooting during this summer league. I think this is why they let him. Also, Spurs are focused on figuring out the other swing men who should come to camp more so than bigs.

Gist for example needs to be forced to showcase, as he presents a nice option if he’s grown in his skill set.

by grego21 on Jul 9, 2010 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree. I really want Gist to show that he can make the team. We can certainly use some more help.

Spurs didn’t want Blair to play SL at first, but he convinced them to let him play.

They are but Blair wants to try his new shot and work on his defense to see how he’s improved and to see what he needs to do in camp and preseason.
