Free Agency, Part 4: Hey Spurs, you might want to do something
Something like, for example, signing this guy:
And a nice defensive wing player would be nice, too. Or even re-signing RJ. SOMETHING. Yeah, that's all. Love you guys!
Also, the Miami SuperTeam must fail.

Meh, it’s just weird to have not heard a damn thing about the Spurs when the signing period’s been open for a while now.

Now that LeFraud James has loosened his hand around the league’s throat, things can get moving again. It’s already started with the Knicks sending David Lee out to Oakland; the Nets throwing rubles on Travis Outlaw’s lap; and the Clippers inking Ryan Gomes and probably Randy Foye.
The Spurs did the splashy and spectacular last summer. Maybe they want to do the quiet and understated this time around.
...!!
Mike Miller to sign with Heat.
Again, they must fail.

WTF??
HOW?
"He was just a young skinny guy who looked like a winner. We didn’t know he was going to be as good as he is."
—Popovich on Manu Ginobili
From what I’m reading, they are trading Beasley to Minny (another big forward for Kahn) to free up cash. That will help them free up the space they need. Also, all 3 players aren’t getting the max probably. Then with remaining money they go very cheap and do vet mins. Their team will definitely have holes next season though with the lack of ability to spread cash to other positions (until next season with the MLE/LLE).

The more I think about it, the less I am afraid of this Miami “super team.” Yes, they do have an unbelievably talented ‘big three’ but the fact is their talents don’t exactly match as perfectly as expected. I disregard Bosh since he’s not really the problem. Wade and LeBron are very similar players in terms of play style so I don’t see them being as dominant as people expect. Their strength is driving into the paint and finishing, not shooting. So when the defense collapses into the pain to cut off the drive, they are forced to kick out to non-shooters. (again not counting Bosh, he’s fine) And people are forgetting that there are 5 positions on the court so teams will likely use these ‘other two’ (which happen to be the most important positions) to attack them at.

I hope this isnt us to an extent with parker next year. I really think he wants to leave or get max (which we cant do). so what are our choice’s I hate to watch him go but I don’t want us to have this feeling of being left empty handed.
I think he stays, but worst case is probably sign and trade. I cannot imagine him just taking off.

Yeah I would like to think that if he wanted out that bad he would talk to the front office. Like " guys’ eva really wants me to play for the Knicks this year" and we trade him in a three team trade with new york and Boston for 5 picks and luke harangody. The picks of course would be draft and stash overseas guys that we can all salivate over in 5 years.

1) Sign Splitter – try and get him to sign to 1/2 to 3/4 MLE
2) Sign one of these 3 guys: Dorrell Wright (definitely not back in Miami now), James Jones, or Ryan Gomes with the LLE.
3) Find another forward if you think RJ doesn’t re-sign. Chase a guy like Raja Bell. Or find a pass/defensive minded PG.
4) If RJ signs, find a nice young big like Ryan Hollins. Use the left over MLE. Or take a chance on Ian.
Wow, I missed that move (thanks for the update on that). Well, I like Wright and Jones more. Gomes’ weakness is lateral quickness and that is currently a weakness for the Spurs. 2 left though.
I kind of like Spurs luck with defensive players who shoot the 3 from Miami though. I’d like to roll my dice on that one once more.
I prefer Wright over Jones.

Didn’t really know about his locker room problems until people mentioned him last season near the trade deadline. He’s not going to rock y our socks off, but he could possibly be a solid player for the Spurs.

I thought about this and i love the idea but do we give them in this scenario? Draft picks? I don’t know. I definitely like idea of him off the bench at 2/3 but i think we have enough of those kind of hybrids. But I have to put that hate of our overwhelming amount of 2/3 hybrids in a SF world aside because we need some shooters really badly.
Ginobili, Hill, and Bonner are way too inconsistent and Anderson is still an unknown.

Okay so let’s recap:
What we are getting this year:
-Improved and developed Blair
-Improved Hill
-Healthy Parker
-Healthier Duncan
-Healthy Manu
-Ace college 3-baller Anderson
-Most likely improved Hairston and Gee
What we hope to be getting:
-Tiago Splitter
-A more familiar to the scheme RJ
-One of James Jones/Dorell Wright/Raja Bell
What we still need:
-Actual SF’s with SF height. Two many 6’5 or 6’6 hybrids (or 6’4 in Hairston’s case)
-3-point shooters. Bonner, Hill, and Ginobili are too inconsistent to win and Anderson is a rookie unknown
-Tiago
-Try to find our lost Spurs defense

I think he meant in the 3 point shooting sense. But KA1Z3R is for the most part immune due to his drug abuse.

oh I knew I was forgetting someone but yes you can expect Temple to be improved as well now that he’s pretty much guaranteed a roster spot and has some experience not only off the bench but starting.
Evey- "Are you a crazy person?"
V- "I'm quite sure they'll say so."

I welcome his improvement but I honestly don’t see him logging much minutes in the regular rotation. George, Tony, Manu, and probably Mr. Anderson will eat up all the minutes at the guard spots. I will like to see what improvements he makes tho.
"I've got Tim (Duncan) and you don't. That's the difference." -Gregg Popovich
Actually, this is ideal for Pop. I can see him wanting to give Parker more of the Duncan treatment. And Manu the even harsher Duncan treatment by sitting him out a few games in the season. Temple also allows Hill to play his natural 2 position.
Heck, with Anderson being a rookie, I can see (now that I think about it) Temple starting with Parker if they want a guy who can hit the perimeter J and have more height/length.
Or Parker/Hill and Manu/Temple which are good lineups. Spurs 2s have often played a small 3 in a few lineups over the years (with Barry for instance). They can ease Anderson into a role, which is nice rather than fans expecting him to drop 20 a night.
Calm down ladies, it’s not over yet. It’s gonna be okay, I promise.

Imagine if Richard Jefferson signed with the Miami Heat with the promise of more money later. Not saying it’s going to happened, but we have no idea what’s going inside the mind of unsigned players at the moment. Is the thought of jumping with a superteam so tempting that they are willing to play for the min? I would hope not, but after last night who’s to say what’s what.
Maybe some of the older players that have made their money, or younger ones looking to make their name, but not RJ or other MLE candidates…just my opinion
While complacency costs, perseverance pays
And not as likely now that so many other teams that have budgeted big bucks for LeBron are left with nothing but fat wallets. You’re gonna see a bonanza of cash for players who want nothing but, and offers to guys like RJ from teams outside of Miami that he wouldn’t turn down.
And I don’t even think he’s one of the greedy ones. I just think it in terms of, “$125million for 5 or 6” versus “$3million for 3 and THE CHANCE TO PLAY WITH LEBRON/WADE/BOSH…YAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!”

RJ has a chance to make some pretty good money here, considering all three big free-agents signed on the same freaking team. Other teams are now maybe willing to make a mistake. Not saying RJ is a mistake but it is somewhat of a risk.
Also: can we at least get some basic cable love for Tiago’s decision? A lifetime movie special or a Breaking Bad tie-in?
I can’t seem to get a handle on Jefferson…I mean at times last year, he looked GREAT!! Driving the lane…slam dunking over defenders, I mean, you have to say that he played like that all the time…HELL YES, I’d want him in a New York second. A last minute interest by Shaquille O’Neal to play on the San Antonio Spurs promises to put a new twist in the brazilian player’s future. GD, Jersey is assembling a half-decent team. They don’t have any SG’s, though. I smell a trade.
The people of the village fell silent, as the beast opened its mouth. And then the beast spoke, and said "LOL BRO".
They’ve gotta be doing something big soon. You don’t make all these plans to up and move, bring in some unknown mysterious big-balling Russian owner, and start a new youth movement with no Plan B or Plan C.
Of course, that assumes that Rod Thorn really isn’t the dipshit that he’s proven to be, and even I can see that’s probably a stretch.
I always said LeBrand was going to Jersey Brooklyn; we’ll see what they have as a consolation plan.

According to BDL, Bosh will be wearing #1 for Miami next year. This means that Dorell Wright, who wore it last year, is probably not going to get an offer to return.

That was pretty much guaranteed when the rumors about Mike Miller signing popped up last night. With Miller/LBJ/Wade, there’s not much time available at the swing positions. heck, even without Miller, there just isn’t much room for growth or play time.
This is a good thing if the Spurs are interested in him. full LLE for like 4 years + a good shot at big play time, is a decent sell for the Spurs.

Was about to post this. Coattail-riding is a tough gig, but someone has to do it.

So are the Lakers are clearing room for some little French guy who might like to play in the Hollywood area?
Hey if repeating as champions were that easy even the Spurs could do it.
Ian Mahinmi is a free agent. He can play small at times.

Fisher is not going anywhere. He’s just driving his price up. It’s working, too. Kobe is out there saying Buss must re-sign Fisher no matter the price. “He’s important to the Lakers and important to me” or words to that effect.

Wow. Reddick is a good piece when surrounded by great players but Chicago should perhaps first try to get the great players.

Actually, I think they’re doing well. Rose and Boozer can do their damage inside, and when teams pack the paint against them, BANG! Kick out to great 3-point shooters.

With rose and Boozer, I think they look better on paper than the Utah Jazz of last season because the supporting cast is much better.
