Josh Howard
Long time reader, first time poster so please bear with me guys. Does anyone else think we could/should be
aiming for Josh Howard? Not really sure if he could be had for the rest of our MLE or BAE, but he could be an upgrade at backup SF (or optional starter if RJ continues to struggle). Maybe the chance to play with another Wake Forest alum, and the chance to play for a contender could convince him. Maybe a pipe dream or bad idea, but id love to hear the thoughts of my fellow PtR followers.

One plus for howard coming to SA is that he’d likly build his own out-of-town supply line of pot and the spill over from that could drive prices down for the rest of us.
On the other hand, if he purchased from local sources, that kind of spike in demand without a corresponding increase in supply could put the price of weed out of reach for san antonio natives… Tough call. Your question was about the local weed economy right? Cause I don’t think his impact on our basketball team would be nearly as high

Only if we let RMJ do the actual aiming.

Actually, I think this is an interesting thought. I’d be really surprised to see him join the Spurs, and there are the character/injury issues. But IF he could be healthy, and IF he could take a low contract, accept the role he is given, and make no waves, that would be a great pick up for any team.
HELL YEAH. Sign him to the veteran’s minimum….if he succeds we have the best backup SF on the league. If he fails miserably, then we lost almost nothing…..Its low risk-high upside move in my opinion. Say what you want about Josh Howards, but he is a defensive minded player who can really ball.

HA! That’s a really good question. They are all pretty bad. I would say Shaq but I’m all ready beginning to doubt my choice. Perhaps Howard actually-maybe. He has the shortest track record of screwing teams over.

Ooooh, tough choice:
No way for Iverson, he has had his second and third chances and shown that he has a difficult time changing.
TMac is a maybe – he may have changed, he may not.
I have a tough time believing that Shaq will not disrupt things here. In a fun way, he is a clown, but still distracting. However Shaq would be a big help in giving Tim and Dice some rest, especially as we could maybe give Tim more games off.
Josh Howard would be a nice backup for RJ, but other than that I don’t see the need as much.
From a chemistry perspective, Josh is the least risk. From a “needs” perspective, Shaq.
Lauri: thank goodness I have you magnificent bastards to waste [the offseason] with.
Do you think that if we “sneak” Shaq into the court and ask him to stand in front of the rim without moving on defense the refs would not notice that we have a six player lineup? We can chalk up our interior defense to a rejuvenated Knees and Tiago picking up the system very quickly.

From the NY Times last week: Is it time for the Big Farewell?
Shaq is having a wee bit of trouble finding a gig willing to pay him the $8mil for 2yrs with a contender.
I’ve heard that Shaq, earlier this summer, was telling friends that the Spurs were the only team he’d consider playing for on a low-dollar contract.
But San Antonio, as covered previously in this cyberspace, doesn’t have the available minutes — and really hasn’t shown the inclination — to try to wedge the former local high school star into a world that still revolves around Shaq’s old rival Tim Duncan.
Hey if repeating as champions were that easy even the Spurs could do it.
Why Not?
I’d take Josh Howard on the cheap. He is a proven NBA talent. Sure he is a bit lazy and he smokes but the potential is there and he has lived up to at times in the past. We have so many young guys (Temple, Gee, Hairston etc) that have never actually proven themselves in the NBA. Yes they all seem like good young players but there is a difference between averaging 10+ points against D League competition and NBA competition. If we really are making a title run and not just restocking for the future then why not take a shot a a vet for cheap who may actually return to old form. I would say that Howard is the best risk followed by McGrady. I’m all for giving the young guys some time to prove themselves but when push comes to shove I’d rather have a guy with experience taking shots.
No. Absolutely no. Unequivocally no.
In fact, though I bleed Silver and Black and would NEVER turn on the team; signing either snaq OR a guy like Howard would significantly emotionally distance me from the team. One of the main reasons I love San Antonio is BECAUSE we never go after guys like this, regardless of talent.

That’s what I hate about you SiMA, too much waffling around. Just make up your mind once in a while.
