With so many returning players, I'm wondering who will be giving up minutes played for any new players. I'd think any extra minutes of rest for Tim might have been made up by Dejuan. Won't Tiago get more minutes than Ian/Theo did? Did they re-sign Bonner just to make him the 12th player off the bench? Do they find minutes for Tiago by going small less often?
Does Malik not get any more minutes this year than he did last year, assuming they re-sign RJ? Roger Mason and Keith Bogans weren't getting very many minutes, would those go to Anderson or some free agent signee to be named later? Will Garrett Temple and Alonzo Gee have to go to Austin to get any playing time?
I think the Spurs erred last year in signing Bogans, Ratliff, Finley and McDyess. It was difficult to find them minutes, and took away much possibility of any of the young players developed at Austin from getting into a game. (Haislip had looked like a good signing, but then he didn't get any minutes). The team seemed to improve once they removed Haislip, Ratliff and Finley from the roster. Other than bringing back Jefferson, I think the team might be better off to just go with what they have rather than sign a mediocre veteran competing for minutes.
