Number 8 made the best of a necessary situation by settling on “Squeaky” as a nickname. He HAD to have a nickname, so at least he has a good one. “Carldell” is virtually impossible to say. It’s that “rld” combo that sits in the middle—try saying his name fast and it just comes out “Caldell.” So then you slow down to try to get all the letters in and it just sounds weird, like you were starting to say something else and got all tangled up. What the hell, man. I can say “World B. Free,” but that’s because there’s a natural stop after the d followed by a consonant. The d belongs with the l. But not in Squeaky’s name, friend. That d doesn’t belong with the l. It belongs with the e. You cannot say “Carldell” and sound like you meant to. You have to stress the “Carl” and then follow sort of quickly, but never quickly enough, with the “dell,” which sounds almost like an apology. “Hey, CARL . . . dell!” Or I guess you could put all the emphasis on the “dell” but that starts to sound excessively southern, plus you sound like you’re yelling at him to clean up his room. “Carl-DELL! Get in here and pick up those nasty wet towels before they start to smell! I mean it!”

Go Squeaky.

You could also clearly imagine what a thinking balloon on C-Webb would read, “Bullsh#t!”.

by TD21 on Jul 15, 2010 10:45 AM CDT up reply actions

My three favorite parts:
1.) Webb getting legitimately offended that Kahn tried to compare his career with Darko’s.
2.) Halfway through the interview, you see Webb give an incredulous, ‘Are you getting this?’ look to the camera.
3.) And the sarcastic, “Good luck,” Webb gives Kahn in disdain to end the interview.

Why is Webb so much more likable as a commentator? I guess it’s because as the color commentator, he doesn’t have to carry the load. He was never good at that.

As I was typing this, Simmons tweeted…
@sportsguy33: C-Webb’s 1st 5 yrs: 20-9-4, 52% FG, ROY, 2 playoffs, 1 All-Star. Darko’s 1st 7 yrs: 5.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 5 teams. Kahhhhhhhhhhhhhhn!!!!!

Gee is going to have to hit that corner 3 to make the Spurs’ roster. It’s a mandatory shot for Spurs’ wing players.

why does being happy with your effort demonstrate that you don’t practice and strive to be better? I understand that you don’t want to show that complancency with the way you played on camera because you’ll come off as not caring, but if you’re the type of player who gives it your all during games and during practice, and just happen to feel good that you gave it your all but lost, you’re okay in my book. Wilkerson, yes Wilkerson, with 20.

Spurs win 80 to 71.

If only that could be our average scores for the regular season games.

ok game over. just found out the spurs will play the LA clippers in a pre-season game in Mexico City.

This summer league shows how good the Spurs system is. Just about every player (those who played) on the team would barely make an NBA rotation and yet we can still win games against more talented teams.

I think the Lakers were probably as talented as us or less. Their three main guys were Caracter an underrated 2nd round pick, Ebanks, underrated 2nd round pick, and Green, a should’ve-been questionable 3rd round pick.

Congrats on winning a summer league game and all. But I have to ask does this also show how intelligent RJ is, that he couldn’t grasp the “Spurs system” last season?

Hey if repeating as champions were that easy even the Spurs could do it.

by olf on Jul 15, 2010 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes it does, thank you. I’ve been thinking this all along. He and A’m’a’r’e take the same classes.

by richbruiser on Jul 15, 2010 7:18 PM CDT up reply actions

It was quite difficult for him to learn the system, and some think that he’s still learning it. He did manage to improve towards the end of the season, and I try to convince myself that it will only get better for next season, but maybe it’s more of he doesn’t have the skills to fit in the system as opposed to him not learning it.

not his intelligence I question rather his motivation. RJ = non-motivated

That Memphis game will be pretty big. OJ Mayo is playing with them (for whatever reason)

He wants to improve his poing guard skills. Wonder what Hill is doing?

Okay, you lucky people who got to watch the game, what’s the consensus on Gee? Or do we not have one yet?

by CapHill on Jul 15, 2010 4:56 PM CDT reply actions

He’s aggressive, which is good. His overall game still needs polish but his aggressiveness is refreshing. Especially after a year watching RJ.

Does he play big enough to be a SF?

by CapHill on Jul 15, 2010 5:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Most definitely.

by bj1der on Jul 15, 2010 5:13 PM CDT up reply actions

I’d say so, especially for a team that currently has no SF under contract… but the real test of SF is weather he’s tall/athletic enough to finish strong at the rim, yet quick enough to cut through openings and get there quickly. so in that sense, I think he’s got what it takes

by RamblingSpur on Jul 15, 2010 5:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Is Squeaky going to find a contract overseas? He really impresses with the way he is able to run the offense, and how disruptive he is on the defensive end. He lacks a lot of defensive physical traits though.

I really wish squeaky was a little taller, younger, and we had an open spot

by NinjaRabbi on Jul 15, 2010 7:25 PM CDT up reply actions

maybe we could find a place for him in ginobili’s head.
