Review of the Spurs first Summer League game
Let me open this review by saying I was not able to watch the game, I didn't find the normal superb review out here. So...this is what I gleaned from the ‘Net. The Spurs announced going into the summer that they were not concerned in winning the games. So they went out and won by 24 over Timberwolves.
Temple, Gist, Dawson, Cuffee, and Gee started; everyone on the bench but Blair got into the game. When asked Coach Budenholzer said Blair has had soreness in his leg for the last couple of days, but is expected to play soon. Blair is in the Summer League to work on his defense and shooting from 10-12 feet out.
Temple was the ‘Man’ in the first half; he had 11 of the first 17 points. He played almost 24 minutes before he turned his ankle and had to be carried from the court. Temple probably won’t be back for the Summer League, but it wasn’t serious. Pop said it was good it was not a high ankle sprain. Temple was looking like George Hill at last year’s Summer League before he turned his ankle.
Alonzo Gee led in rebounds with 8. Pop commented on his athleticism and that Gee understood his role. Coach Bud said he was happy with Gee’s defense and how he did on his post ups.
The Spurs had 5 players in double figures, Temple 11, Gee 12, Jerrells 11, Mitchell 12, Neal 11. Temple being out could open a door for Jerrells. The Spurs out rebounded the Wolves by 12, 38 – 26. They were led by Gee with 8, Watkins with 6, and Wilkerson and Gist with 5. There were 15 assists handed out, Johnson and Gee had 4 each. Unfortunately they also had 28 turnovers. The Spurs did win 85 to 61, shooting 50.9%

I managed to see a little bit via some dodgy streaming and I saw Mitchell make two great plays. One was a finish at the rim from a beautiful pass from Jerrels. Then he made a nice fluid three and I thought to myself, who is this kid?
"Are you gunna bite all day little doggie, or are you gunna bite?"
- Temple was easily the best player on the floor, despite the turnovers.
- Gee can’t seem to hold on to the ball
- Gary Neal is a natural shooter. Effortless and pure.
