I’m not predicting a chip for Miami (far from it). I just think they won the offseason this year. However, at this point, considering our needs, I’d put us at #3. And I am ecstatic that Tiago is here!

In my mind, the offseason is about filling the holes in your roster, unless you’re Miami, which was just a giant hole. Chicago needed another body inside and some outside shooters. Despite what one might think of Boozer, he does fill a need, as do Korver and Redick.

In our case, we needed a shooter, a defensive-minded center and a backup SF. We’ve filled two of those spots. Yet our guys are of a unproven nature, so that is why I put Chicago at #2 as of right now.

by CapHill on Jul 12, 2010 4:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Here’s one for you: how bad will Chicago’s defense be if Boozer, Korver, and Reddick are on the court at the same time?

Btw, good points you make. I agree with that assessment.

by Wayne Vore (ATS) on Jul 12, 2010 4:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Wayne, you are right about there defense being hella suspect with there off season signee’s on the court at the same time. There head coach though is a supposedly defensive guru. So maybe he can get those guys to play a little better. Oh yeah Reddick i an okay team defender

One thing i can do...................is FINGER ROLL.

by gunnin' gervin on Jul 12, 2010 10:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Noah and Taj Gibson aren’t too shabby. Gibson definitely was a good story in Chicago last season (despite many of the bad ones).

by grego21 on Jul 13, 2010 1:09 AM CDT up reply actions

Bonner on a team that has depth is actually a good player for what he could provide. As long as he’s not the only 3 point shooter and only big man not named Duncan, then he should be fine. His deal is trade friendly for the life of the contract and I’d bet there is a partial guarantee on the last year. He plays well during the regular season, so at least Spurs can utilize him and rest other big men for the pot season.

I’m sure Pop will do the same with Parker and Manu with all the young talent they have.

Awesome that we got Tiago. It’s no guarantee but it will help us in the long run. And who the heck cares, who they think or that the Heat won the off season title. Let’s get RJ done next. He will be more productive this year as well as the core from last year coming together and being more productive. Also, when I met Tiago back in 07 at the airport, he looks like a 6’11 Brazilian version of Brad Pitt only better looking. This has nothing to do with anything except that he will have the same effect on our local women that Korver had in Utah.

FCP at it again:

Tiago Splitter is now officially a member of the #Spurs. He also has the hairiest butt since Vinny Del Negro.

Just cause we're crippled, don't mean we gotta take the crumbs.

Hmmpphhh, the disrespect that he continues to show me is unbelievable.

I’m so pleased with this signing, I’m willing to forgive him for looking like a taller Andy Roddick. He fills so many needs for the Spurs and between George Hill, Blair, Splitter and Anderson maybe we’ll hear less about how ancient the team is.

Asked before the game how Parker has looked, Popovich said, "He’s still cute. "

by 0signal on Jul 12, 2010 7:16 PM CDT reply actions

Oh, rest assured, as long as Timmeh is our anchor and Manu is his wingman, we will be regaled with tales of our age. It is but a clever cloak for our youthfulness, however!

You also have at least one D-Leaguer making it. Probably Temple at the very least. So even more youth!

Wow! 10 million for 3 years for splitter, i have expected him to sign for the full mle. Can the spurs use the remaining of the mle plus the lle to sign a guy for SF? Go spurs go!!! =)

by vimce_dg on Jul 12, 2010 7:36 PM CDT reply actions

Can’t combine the LEs

by doggydogworld on Jul 12, 2010 7:42 PM CDT up reply actions

it would be cool if we could. “Spurs use the LLEMLE to get a kick-ass SF!”

Where did you get these numbers?

by indiancharlie on Jul 12, 2010 9:09 PM CDT up reply actions

Thanks for that info. But the spurs can use the remaining of the MLE to sign another guy right? A raja bell maybe or barnes..

by vimce_dg on Jul 12, 2010 7:51 PM CDT reply actions

personally seeing Splitter wearing Spurs uniform is far more exciting than seeing those 3 stooges acting as if they’ve won the championship. This is the best christmas gift ever!

whadayaknow… 22 is my favorite number. hope he doesn’t mess it up. high hopes, tiago. high hopes. something i had last year after the rj signing. look what happened.

There are almost 4 1/2 ’5’s in Tiago’s number, that’s gotta mean something good.

HA!

Haven’t we been through this often enough? Every time you’re gone for a prolonged period of time, upon your return I jump on some innocuous statement of yours with a harmless and somewhat lame attempt at busting on you, and you feign anger and reply with an insult about ten times more potent and damaging than mine.

You’d have thought that our roles were well enough established that it would be unnecessary for me to tell you yours.

Great. Now if only we can sign RJ to a better deal.

I smell death... everywhere.

It is looking stronger and stronger as most teams have blown their load on overpaying. Spurs offer probably the most lucrative option these days now that things have quieted down.

The only way that video could have pushed me more over the edge with excitement is if at the end, Tiago got really serious and stared into the camera and said, “I must break you.”

How about if he’d ended by getting frivolous at the end, standing up on the table and shouting, “And now, let’s do the Macarena!”

What would that have done to your level of excitement?
