Actually our ‘limited’ popularity is an advantage. On the AF base here in Ohio, the laker and celtic blog sites are banned, while I can open PTR all day long at work. Sweet!
Haven’t they banned all NBA reading in the entire state of Ohio?

i live about an hour down the road in cincinnati.
Sweet! Haven’t been to cincinnati yet. I am here only till mid-Aug though and putt putt around on a small scooter lol. My travel options on weekends are limited to local fare of anything good.

hmmmm. i gotta think that cincinnati style chili would likely be considered a mockery by any texan. however, it is essentially thin chili with beans over spaghetti with cheese onions. some have it with a hint of cinnamon. skyline is most popular, but gold star chili is a little better imho – but nether are super-stellar. it is fast food.
in dayton, its hard to beat the submarine house for subs – but that’s also kind of fast. but they do have great sub sandwiches.
oregon district in downtown dayotn (5th Street) has a number of good places to eat and drink. pacchia is a little nicer, jay’s seafood is pretty good. franco’s italian is not bad. tumbleweed, sloopy’s, newcoms and dublin pub are all OK for beverages.
hit me up at: wallace@pbworld.com if you make it to the cincinnati area while you are here. we can meet up for a beer or whatever and talk more particulars if you like.
Oh nice suggestions! Thanks bones. I have frequented submarine house so far. All the other ones are new to me. My brother is rolling into town over the weekend, so now I can act like I know something around here :P
Now that I am more educated on chilli, gotta try those ones out.
what about that Smokin Bar-B-Que place.

The WNT.com post possibly brought PtR to his attention, but Tiago subscribed to PtR’s Twitter feed as of last night, just before midnight.
So it’s likely a bit more significant because the timing, with him being in S.A. as of Saturday, wouldn’t you agree?

Can you request a lexicon in a response to your typo and not get wink linked?
Dejuan BLAAAIIIIIIRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!
I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking, but I’ll try a response anyway.
I think you’re wondering whether or how you should go about alerting the Lexicon committee about a post you think particularly interesting. What you did will work, or you could just say, “Hey, jrw. How about this one?” or something like that.
But I should note that not all typos are created equal, and some witticisms simply do not make the cut. I have a full dozen on my desk right now that haven’t been entered, and won’t be, until it’s decided whether they’re of high enough quality to be included in the Lexicon.
Does that answer your question?
I have no problem with Bonner, as long as we are not asking him to do things he can’t do. - quincyscott
Is there more than one of you?
I have no problem with Bonner, as long as we are not asking him to do things he can’t do. - quincyscott
huh, it wasn’t intended, when i posted, it didn’t show as i put in anything, so i repeated.
Dejuan BLAAAIIIIIIRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!
my personal opinion is that correcting yourself or pointing out your own error significantly reduces lexicon chances unless the error is so epic, the correction adds to the embarrassment of the original mistake
isn’t that one of the points of the lexicon though, fun embarassment
Dejuan BLAAAIIIIIIRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!
yeah but correcting your typo and suggesting it goes in the lexicon can sometimes show you aren’t embarrassed or regretful of it…then its like “whats the point?”
I’ll be damned before any correction took the joy out of “Tim’s Kness.”
Asked before the game how Parker has looked, Popovich said, "He’s still cute. "
0signal, we’re in the middle of talking about typos and misspellings and you pop off with a MIS-quote of your own favorite Lexicon term? That could be kinda embarrassing.
Here’s the link so you can brush up on your usage.
I have no problem with Bonner, as long as we are not asking him to do things he can’t do. - quincyscott
I would say that if another PtRer responds with an image to your error, that significantly increases your chance of entering The Lexicon.
To this day, I’m convinced that brining it would not have entered The Lexicon if Lauri had not followed up my typo with that picture. JRW, feel free to correct me on this.
Neither would gowning on trees.
The people of the village fell silent, as the beast opened its mouth. And then the beast spoke, and said "LOL BRO".
I’ll take on BOTH of these here.
First, Tim’s reference to gowning on trees. That one just had to make the Lexicon, simply out of fairness. It was my first well-publicized misspelling, and there was no way that I could leave it out and have any creditability as the Lexicon’s gatekeeper. The fact that Romeo found multiple epic images in order to really drive home my mistake was just icing on the cake; critically-acclaimed-award-winning icing, but icing nonetheless.
As for Cap’s theory, I think there’s something to it. As I’ve said a number of times before: it takes more than a couple of jumbled letters to put an entry over the top. Sometimes its the feel of the new word, other times its the look of it or how it sounds. Sometimes it’s the way the entire sentence works with the term. And then there are the times when the response is what makes the submission a shoo in, as was the case with brining it.
Lauri’s reply was so understated (just the quote of Cap’s gaff) and the image so clever, that there was immediately a ton of momentum behind that typo. And once everybody thought it was funny, they started using it. And at that point, I’m not adding it to the Lexicon to give it publicity and a chance at being used, I’m simply acting catalog a term that had already made it.
Now going back to gowning, it’s interesting to note that although the images were funny, and the term is in the Lexicon, it gets absolutely no use on the site. In fact, if we tally the two terms being discussed here, brining has 50 and gowning has 8 (before this comment that is) and both had amazing images to support them. So, it’s just one of those things. Like how I thought knee-maintenance would really take off. Or how Cap thought that manman had legs.
I’m happy and very great. - Tiago Splitter
Well jrw…you take “quality control” to a whole nother level.
by titansfan4ever on Jul 12, 2010 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions
It’s not really as bad as I made it out to be. The reality is that I have a dozen waiting to enter because I simply haven’t gotten around to making myself do the research and post the entries yet; not because I’m in deliberations as to the relative merits of each possible entry.
But those that are waiting were culled (on the fly, mind you) from tons more submissions that just didn’t have that it necessary to join the Lexicon.
So, it’s not quite that difficult, but not easy either.
I’m happy and very great. - Tiago Splitter

All I can say is that I am relatively certain that I’m not capable of one.
The last time I thought I had pulled a really awesome stray comment out of thin air was when, instead of using a commonplace compliment, I called a guy a “world-renowned paleontologist” and mentally patted myself on the back for my utterly arbitrary phrase.
It wasn’t long after he hung up chuckling, that I realized that what I’d been about to call him was a “rock star” and that I’d merely found different words to say the same thing. Not random at all.
I suppose that a person just walking into a conversation could say something that appears to those listening as being completely random, but from his point of view (or from the point of view of someone intimately connected with him) it would probably not seem disconnected at all.
