I said this in the other thread, but all the Spurs have to do is drive right at him for a trip to the line. Good one, Mark.

crap I didn’t see the other fanshot.

The other one said they were “close”, though. This one says it’s done.

eh, if he didn’t pan out here I’m skeptical as to how well he’ll do in Dallas. Nowhere near the same developmental group there. I’m not worried, Splitter will dominate

Aw that’s a loss for us. I didn’t realize he was drafted 28th.. Coincidence?

Beaubois and Mahinmi will be our doom.

i’d hope him for to succeed just about anywhere, but in Dallas, I hope he is buried on the bench like he was here…..damn it

i’d hope for him….dyslexic morning….

Why??? Anywhere but Dallas, Ian.

If they plan on using Ian then that’s gotta mean Dampier is on his way out. I really hope they don’t land a deal getting Chris Paul or someone great like that.

He is. If they get Al Jefferson, he’s going to be used to make the numbers work.

by grego21 on Jul 12, 2010 2:13 PM CDT up reply actions

That sucks…I liked this kid…I always used to wish they had played him more…at least when he got the ball in the paint, he knew what to do with it. That’s more than you can say for some of the other players. Of course, on Pop’s team, if you suck on defense….you’re outta there!!

by titansfan4ever on Jul 12, 2010 9:17 AM CDT reply actions

Oh Noooo!!! Mahinmi to Dallas

This trade will jump up and bite Pop in the ass in a serious way. Mahinmi is still young, athletic and eager. When he faces the Spurs he will do everything he can to prove to Pop that he was wrong. If he had gone to a team in the East it wouldn’t have been so bad, but Dallas….Ouch!

Oops, didn’t mean trade, just a free agent signing.

Like foul out in 24 minutes of play.

Good for Yawn. I don’t like seeing him in a Mavs uniform, but he wasn’t going to play for the Spurs anyway.

by CapHill on Jul 12, 2010 10:30 AM CDT reply actions

As smart as Cuban supposedly is, he sure is horrible at evaluating big men.

Can we trade him Bonner for something? Like two bags of chips and a diet coke?

We can always find another Yawn, and we already have. His name is Ryan Richards.

Except Richards can’t jump. He can dribble behind his back, though.

by doggydogworld on Jul 12, 2010 11:33 AM CDT up reply actions

It looked like Richards could jump from the few video highlights I saw – maybe not as high as Yawn, but leaping ability does not a basketball player make (i.e., Timmeh).

by CapHill on Jul 12, 2010 12:29 PM CDT up reply actions

In the combine his vertical jump was 4 inches less than Matt Bonner’s. He’s only 19, though. Hopefully with a few years of strength training he’ll be able to jump almost as high as Matt.

Smart signing?

For a guy that played 26 games and averaged 6 min/game for the Spurs last season? That makes Cuban smart?

OK, to get Ian for the LLE may be a good deal, and yeah, he’ll play REAL HARD against San Antonio, but doesn’t the fact that the Spurs FO (who are actually smart) isn’t trying to outbid Dallas for him mean that maybe he’d have little chance to develop further with the Spurs? Or maybe Ian himself reasoned that, with Splitter coming, his playing time would be limited and he’d best seek opportunities elsewhere.

The one Mavs signing of a former Spurs player that scared me was when AJ would up in Dallas, especially after I learned that he was being groomed to be their coach. Inside intel and all that. But the Mavs and Spurs know each others tendencies so well by now, I wouldn’t be scared if it happened today… not saying that I would welcome Parker signing with them next year, not at all. A Parker in is prime is waaaaay different than AJ at the end of his career (or any time during his career, actually)…

by freshtunarightofftheboat on Jul 12, 2010 11:34 AM CDT reply actions

And...

The tidbit in the same article about Farmer joining the Nets was far more interesting to me… the Lakers lost someone who’s far more important to them than Yawn would ever be for the Spurs.

by freshtunarightofftheboat on Jul 12, 2010 11:39 AM CDT up reply actions

Lakers got Blake who is a vastly better backup PG than Farmar.

by doggydogworld on Jul 12, 2010 12:26 PM CDT up reply actions

they could also lose Fisher to the Heat though….its interesting if they lost both pg’s

by BlaseE on Jul 12, 2010 12:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Fish is going nowhere, just trying to get Buss to raise his insulting 1 year/2.5m offer.

by doggydogworld on Jul 12, 2010 1:17 PM CDT up reply actions

I’d say barely better than Farmar

"It's Manuway or the Highway" - tlo

by Manuwar on Jul 12, 2010 2:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Farmar is crap basically so that’s not saying much. Although Ian definitely has more potential if ever realized.

by grego21 on Jul 12, 2010 3:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Hmmm… does Blake know the triangle offense? It’s not easy to master, and the Lakers should worry if their number #1 and #2 PGs are both new to the system (and the team).

by freshtunarightofftheboat on Jul 12, 2010 3:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Artest still doesn’t know it

by BlaseE on Jul 12, 2010 4:27 PM CDT up reply actions

But he’s a better player that his skills allow him to be a contributor despite his lack of fitting in fully.

by grego21 on Jul 12, 2010 10:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Good for him. I’m at least glad that he got the opportunity to play some decent minutes. He obviously wasn’t developing well in our system so at least now he has a chance to really develop his game elsewhere.

"I've got Tim (Duncan) and you don't. That's the difference." -Gregg Popovich

by bj1der on Jul 12, 2010 12:09 PM CDT reply actions

I think Dallas is a bad fit because he won’t get minutes. Dallas just signed Haywood to big money and is using MLE to lure Haslem or another big. Ian needs 20 minutes a night, or more, to work on his game.

by doggydogworld on Jul 12, 2010 12:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, given that Ian averaged 7 fouls per 36 minutes last season, I think 20 minutes a game is about right. That should put him around the 4-5 foul range.

good for yawn, hopefully he gets good minutes in dallas, but doesn’t record great stats like the triple bumble with them. hehe, triple bumble.

luckily he sucks so this is no big deal.

by the way on the case of anywhere but Dallas, I don’t like seeing former Spurs suit for Houston, Phoenix or LA either. so yeah.

by r21x on Jul 12, 2010 3:21 PM CDT reply actions

he’ll be like what Dwayne Jones was for the Suns, just someone with a knowledge of the Spurs system in their team.
