It's that time again. The NBA's Summer League(s) got underway about 10 days ago, but the San Antonio squad have their first matchup today. Follow me after the jump for rosters and more, if you aren't too busy celebrating the news about our new South American Savior(© 2002). Get out your vuvuzelas and join us in annoying anyone in your immediate vicinity as we cheer on the youngest, upside-iest guys in the Spurs' system.

RJ’s D got better during the season. He had a solid game on some of the other swing men and he also had a good game against Dirk during the season.
It’s fun to rag on RJ, but he did rebound and try on defense. Hopefully it continues to improve but he was at the very least an average defender. It will help with the infusion of even more players committed on defense.

Bird rights on Haslem I believe. They started with 2M on their cap, so they have some space to go.
LBJ/Bosh both took less in their first year, but are getting it on the back end with the 6th year.
Pretty sure they had to renounce their Bird rights on Haslem to sign the Huge 3 and Mike MIller.

Perhaps. Their cap was so minimal that I think they may have kept them for Haslem but renounced them for Wright and James Jones (I believe his contract was long enough at the time).
But with not knowing if they’d get the big free agents to do sign and trade to take less money up front, who knows.
Haslem’s cap hold was $10m+, no way they could sign the Huge 3 and Miller without renouncing his Bird rights. Of course they waited until the dust settled, just in case LeDecision had unexpectedly decided to take his talents to South Side of Chicago.
James Jones was different, they had to waive him before 6/30. They had to pay him about 6m instead of the 15m he would have been guaranteed to get over the next three years.

Active and aggressive on both ends of the court. Solid rebounding (+12) and defense but poor at passing and kinda ugly attacking the rim (lots of dunks though).
Temple looked great and Neal could probably hit shots standing on his head. Gee didn’t really impress through 34 minutes. Squeaky works so damn hard its a shame he won’t make the roster.
I’m interested in seeing how Watkins, Denison, and Wilkerson do throughout the summer league.
