RU: Spurs Attending New Jersey Workouts Today
Because I don't care about the Celtics and Lakers, I bring you some more scouting news.
Spurs along with 22 other teams including the Nets will be looking at (Current DE Mock Position):
PG's: Ben Uzoh and Rodney Green
SG's: Sherron Collins (47) and Jon Scheyer
SF's: Stanley Robinson (24) and Darington Hobson (38)
PF's: Tim Ohlbrecht, Deon Thompson, Dexter Pittman (53), and Pablo Aguilar (58)
C's: Omar Samhan and Art Parakhouski (48)
I don't think Pittman is going to be playing much PF in the NBA. DE has him as a C, but I stuck with RU's positions.
I think the Spurs will have a close eye on Robinson - Hobson match up along with all of these second round to undrafted bigs.

I don’t see the Spurs moving up. I mean its possible and I wouldn’t be shocked if it happened, but I think it is unlikely. I really think the Spurs gameplan, barring an incredible talent falling way past his projection (See 2009-Blair), we want a SF with some size and an immediate scoring threat. Our second round pick and possible undrafted attention should be focused on centers, preferably athletic ones and definitely legitimately tall ones.
Ian is the only true center on the roster and he is as raw as a rookie apparently. Tell me you wouldn’t rather have Ibaka or Illaysova (sp?). Splitter is a good true center, but I read somewhere that Pop and our FO aren’t satisfied with the rate at which are team is becoming more athletic and younger. We need a 6’10"+ athletic big who can be a role player whether we get Splitter or not. Blair, Dice, Bonner, and Duncan combine for too many match up issues.
With all of that said, Robinson could be the SF for us. Hobson isn’t a 20th pick talent but he could be a good second round option if he falls or we wanted to trade up for him. Then there are 4 guys there today that are 6’10" or taller that could all be second round or summer league invite guys.
Art Parakhouski is in our range, roughly, and he’s OK. I saw him back in november at a Duke/Radford game and he was good. He’s got a strong frame and he brutalized anyone who was guarding him — I think part of the knock on him was that he came from a weak conference, but I think that shouldn’t really count against him so much — dude got double or triple teamed any time he touched the ball (in and out of the conference) and still shot 60% with averages of like 24-12 or something. He looked very impressive against the Duke front line, and in general he just looked like the kind of a pick that might need some developing but had the tools to be NBA valuable.

When I get home I’ll do a fanpost on Art, I’ve got some pictures from the game and after it I messaged a friend with some thoughts on his game, so I can look back at those to remind me what he was good at and what he was bad at. One thing I remember was that he “felt” like the tallest player on the floor even though Duke had players who were taller than he was. Really big. He carried himself like a taller player, and easily has NBA size and the sort of starting blocks for possible NBA skill, too — not a terrible shooter (even though he’s Spurs-bad on free throws).

he "felt" like the tallest player
Interesting, did Art take offense that your were feeling on his height ?
The Spurs = Not your granddaddies 7th seed !
Oh… that’s probably why he threw his point guard at me.
I was always wondering about that.
Also, for anyone who wants more on the White Russian, I wrote a fanpost!

Thanks for that insight, Doc. I’ve never heard of Art, but now I think he might have potential to be one of our infamous dark-horse picks.

After reading your comment I checked him out on DE. From a stat standpoint he is more than OK. He was dominant on the boards and was an efficient scorer. Sure the competition he faced may not have been as stiff. However, i feel this has to be somewhat balanced by the fact that he has only played basketball for 5 years. I would love to pick him up in the second. DE has him going one spot before us.
Thanks for the info.
There ain’t a lot of top-notch talent listed here, what the fruck are the Spurs thinking?
While complacency costs, perseverance pays
Right, let’s fire the FO. :D
In Manu, we trust.

I'm really late to add these but here were the following players on the next two days:
PG: SCOTTIE REYNOLDS, TAJUAN PORTER, THOMAS HEURTEL, JEROME RANDLE (56)
SG: EDWIN JACKSON, JAMAR SMITH, JERMAINE DIXON, TYREN JOHNSON, MANNY HARRIS
SF: RYAN THOMPSON, MARQUIS GILSTRAP, RYAN WITTMAN
PF: WAYNE CHISM, TYLER WILKERSON, DWAYNE COLLINS, GANI LAWAL, LUKE HARANGODY (60), LUDOVIC VATY, MAC KOSHWAL
C: JEROME JORDAN (46), BRIAN ZOUBEK (41), HAMADY NDIAYE (48), JORDAN EGLSEDER, ANDREW OGILVY
Of these players, the centers are probably the most important names to us.
