Offseason thread (again)
The 2009-2010 season is finally over, now comes the interesting part. It's the offseason people, time to get the answers to the question "What will the Spurs do?" Honestly, it's about about time because trying to figure it out ourselves can get frustrating.
The Spurs have 5 free agents but they are all unrestricted so don't expect to get any draft picks in compensation.
The Spurs have the 20th overall pick and the 49th overall pick in the draft.
The Spurs are over the cap and have the veteran's minimum and the MLE available to sign free agents
nba.com has a list of ALL the free agents available here
DraftExpress.com has a mock draft of ALL the prospects and draft order here
There's all the information you need. Go wild....

Completely unrelated but when looking up the history of the Spurs I saw that this used to be the logo
I don’t know about you but I couldn’t see myself rocking this on a hoodie.

Heh. There’s actually a draft discussion post in the works right now, with some opinions on the guys who might be in our range. But I picked free agency for your poll, since Tiago is likely the biggest impact player we can get this offseason.
Free Tiago Splitter!
Except Tiago isn’t a free agent. The poll doesn’t really have a category that fits Tiago.

He is technically a free agent since he can still decide not to sign. He can go sign with any European team he wants still

He can’t go sign with any European team, he’s under contract with Caja Laboral. He can opt out of that contract to go to the NBA.
Besides, by this definition every player picked in the draft this week would be a “free agent” because they could decide to sign in Europe. That’s absurd and would render the term meaningless.

I actually think he can chose to opt out and sign with any European team but I’m only judging by all the talk of Real Madrid wanting him. And I also believe that every prospect not drafted is a free agent. The difference with draft picks is that the teams choose them and with free agents it’s the other way around

Actually, he has a buyout clause on his contract, not an opt-out clause. The buyout is €1M for him to leave to the NBA, and €3M for European teams, but Tiago has to agree to it either way.
Free Tiago Splitter!
Thanks for the clarification. I’ve read various things, that the buyout for another Euro team is 4x the NBA buyout (i.e. €4M) or that there was no Euro buyout at all.

No, but seriously, I honestly don’t think we’re gonna trade Tony or Hill this Thursday. In my gut I feel that Tiago will join us and I am definitely hoping that we draft somebody that is a hybrid wing-forward type player. Somebody that can come in immediately and do what Jefferson didn’t do: play defense and hit a jump shot when it counts.
I did some research and I changed my mind about who I think the Spurs should draft at 20. I was all for Stanley Robinson, and still am, but I’m on the Damien James bandwagon. I just think he is more willing to play tenacious D than Robinson is. If he’s not still on the board by 20 I’ll still go with Robinson although his stock seems to have dropped terribly since the combine.

Damion James seems like the perfect workhorse that the Spurs need. You know he will bring it every night, but Stanley Robinson? His mind isn’t built for Pop’s mentality and he could get into his doghouse pretty quick. I definitely see James being available at #20, but I seriously doubt the Spurs will get him. Call it a hunch or something, but the Spurs always find those unconventional picks that nobody can seem to predict; Elliot Williams, however, might be the one the Spurs have chosen since he canceled his workouts after the mysterious injury in San Antonio. But this might be another famous smokescreen for a really badass player that can help the Spurs win right away.
