Game 2 - Post Game Thread
Believe.
The last time I checked, the playoffs were the best of 7 game series, not 3. We must believe in our Spurs and our savior, Manu Ginobili (and the coaching staff) to find a way to beat this team. We've won too many championships in recent time to go down this easy. Besides.. I mean.. come on:
Box Score
Hill -12
Parker -7
Ginobili -3 (He should be PLUS something)
Final Word
We know we can beat this team, it's just going to take a different game plan to do it. Expect the Spurs to respond resiliently, and expect them to come back hard. We're not done yet.
Game 3 - Friday, May 7, 8:30 PM Spurs time.

The thing is we need to win the next game or the series is pretty much over. I just didn’t want the Spurs to be in that situation.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
It would help to win Game 4 too. And definitely Game 5. And then if we can pull out Game 6, that’d pretty much be over too.

I Believe. We were in the same position against new orleans. In the game in the first half and every 3rd quarter in New Orleans the spurs got blown out. We could do this. Win two home games and put the pressure on them.

Im not saying the Spurs are done, but the Suns are better than the Nooch was back then.
The Spurs = Not your granddaddies 7th seed !
I actually disagree with you here. I think the suns were better shooters, but overall the hornets were better.
But, then again, so were we.

This is far from over, kids. We know how to beat these guys, it’s not that tough. We’re just beating ourselves right now with missed shots and getting complacent on D. We still have the two biggest champions of poise in the league in Manu and Tim. And we’re going home, where George and Blair and Bonner often show up. Phx hasn’t shown us anything that we’re not capable of controlling or beating, there’s still much hope.
Plus, we’ve done it before. Hold strong and stay positive. Get joy out of how utterly psychologically devastated they will be after going up 2-0 and losing the series to the San Antonio SPURS. We just THOUGHT we couldn’t destroy them any more than we already had! It’s a beautiful vision.
Don’t panic. GO SPURS GO.

Im tired of Bonner playing. He is a role player for the regular season at best. He has no business in the playoffs. If he cannot hit wide open three point shots, then he doesnt belong on the floor because he is a liability on defense. If his shot is off then he brings nothing to the table.
seriously agree
i have A proposition
can we let go of bonner—-then sign ty thomas
then let go of mason—-then sign raja
then i think with that we still have some cash…mle?
sign tiago
then i guess if we still have something—-can we sign morrow—-in replacement of our poor three point shooting—-if he signs 3 mil—-that means we add 6 mil to out luxury tax?right?wrong>?

Seriously, Dude had his stroke on last night and he sat out post of the second half…he may not have three-point range, but he can stretch a defense a little bit. I’d rather have his made twos that require you to respect him than Bonner’s missed threes that mean you can pretty much blow him off on D.
While complacency costs, perseverance pays
seriously, talking about next season because we lost two games? I know its a long shot, but this series is not over.
i’m not saying that bcuz we lost 2 games—-we lost the series already…but we there’s a need of pointing things out.I’m not saying to do it now.I still got faith on this team—-but as a fan i got to admit—-we only need an 8 man rotation and in this rotation keith should have some of bonner’s minutes, and yes small ball—-and i think we can’t have any other choice—-we’re a small team and our small ball is effective in game 1.

No. In fact, it’s because of the tons of offensive boards we gave up is why we lost this game. The Suns showed heart and hustle in picking up misses when their shooting was awful in the first few quarters, and I give them credit because of that.

I'm not saying something is wrong, but something isn't right.
First of all, how the F is Joe Crawford allowed to ref this game?
Or any game for that matter.
And how does RJ have “one of his best games of the season”, and still manage to piss me off so much with his careless turnovers, clutch Traveling, missed free throws, and his stupid tiny ears?
I refuse to believe that we are this bad. Play like dogshit 3 out of 4 qtrs and expect to win?
I mean come on, I know this is the Suns, who have been competing with Dallas for Bigger Loser team of the last decade. But they’re not going just give it to us.
No reason we shouldn’t win at least the next 3 in a row.

Second time in the series Hill has the worst +/- on the team. In game 1 he was atrocious, tonight simply bad. But I am sure he would rebound at home, as he did in the series against Dallas. And their role players will fade. We are totally winning game 3, we don’t need to change anything, just make sure that JC is not reffing (could he get a bad case of food poisoning or unfortunate car accident? just asking)
I am here to state the obvious.
does it mean parker is more effective?

Parker is definitely more effective than Hill in this series. He tears up the suns defense. We need that. we need to attack nash. i hope parker starts in the next game.
that’s what im thinking—-ghill should play when it comes to defense but then to have a big lead in the early going—-we need tp.surely he doesn’t play d like hill—-but he goes to the paint like no other spur unless the name’s manu.I’d like to play hill with 5 or 6 minute mark in every quarter and if manu rests.

to win this series:
1.if the big three shows up its always big three plus 1 2
2.free throw shooting
3.we need to get the 50-50 balls
4.offensive rebounds
5.defensive rebound
6.better perimeter defense—-which i think we had in game one
7.manu should be manu again—its fine that he shoots free throws, assists other guys, but he needs to score at least 16 or 20 plus ft’s for us to win
these guys shows that they don’t give up whether we are up or down—-we lost,it wasn’t bcuz we had another effing RQC but the suns offensive boards were killing us,their bench brought energy and jared killed us.they have home court, they are a better free throw shooting team.we lost not bcuz we played atrocious defense—-we held them to what,36% shooting?and we lost, its bcuz of other factors—-we need to get those defensive rebounds and do our best to have this defense and don’t let them get the offensive rebounds and three’s….again..

I really think Blair should be playing more. He’s the only big-man out there besides Duncan that could really contest those 3-point shots and still be able to defend inside. Plus, then we could make jokes about Blair BLAIRING down on the Suns with his giant layups over the Suns’ smallball.
by fanoftheunderdogs on May 6, 2010 1:19 AM CDT reply actions
I also think that the Spurs should be taking more 3-pointers in late-game situations. Especially against a team with some of the best 3-point scoring around. I actually witnessed a couple of 3-pointers tonight by Manu and Tony that were going in but spun right back out off the rim.
Basically… you guys lasted 2 1/2 quarters before losing the lead. even then, you came back to within 4. all that on a night where the Spurs play was pretty average.
Game 3… Homecrowd, mojo on the Spur’s side, fighting for survival, with a ton of blood-thirsty “dogs” ready to come off the bench and bite the Suns where it hurts? Plus, last but not least, Manu and Duncan? ’Nuff said.

It’s difficult enough to win four of seven. Tonight leaves the feeling that we will need to win five of seven, with this having been thrown away. Again, the 50/50 calls went the other way which is to be expected when seeing the head ref. The 50/50 bounces unfortunately did again too which is a luck thing that will even out over time when you continue to play hard. What was frustrating was that the 50/50 hustle plays all went to Phoenix, mostly during the 2nd Q. It was they who played as though they were trailing in the series.
That each team’s bench has young players, it seems theirs fed off the home crowd, something that can switch this weekend. That it was a veteran, Bogans, who made some mental errors during that time, makes youth a non-legitimate excuse.
What makes me hopeful: I think tonight showed that Pop, staff and players found the strategy to win. PHX still has no answer for TD or Tony, and with so much focus on trapping Manu there are plenty of scoring lanes for RJ, Hill, and Dyce. They executed it all for two things: rebounding and missing wide open shots. The latter will work itself out on its own. The former is about effort and hustle, with perhaps a few more minutes for Dyce. Being down 0-2 and coming home should light a fire under everyones effort.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
I love all the optimism flying around but I have a few concerns:
- The free throw difference was mostly self-inflicted. Too many silly fouls in this game.
- Duncan logged long minutes and he played very hard. Im worried he will be fatigued in game 3
- This is the first time I watched a game and felt that Pop got outsmarted in parts of the game. The part of the game where we went small and they just isolated Timmeh for jump shots clearly backfired. I understand the logic that they are settling for long shots but they were making them and it was painful to watch Timmeh so vulnerable.
- Three pointer shooting was not that different and although during the game it seemed like an important factor, looking at the box score it does not seem so.
- I was one of the biggest Bonner apologists around but my thought on him is starting to shift. Players that cannot do in the playoffs what they do in the regular season are a serious liability. If he cannot fulfill his role in the playoffs I believe it is time to move on and not play him in the regular season anymore because he makes you count in something that is going to disappear when it counts. Two playoffs of the same and although it might still be a fluke I do not want to find out while he plays for the Spurs.
"If an expert says it can't be done, get another expert"
- DBG
On number 2…
Duncan played long minutes and played very hard… but so did the entire Suns team. Who’s to say that Pop’s strategy isn’t to let the Suns overwork themselves in the first 2 games… then have to travel to San Antonio with a hostile crowd and a Spurs team that is suddenly going all-out?

With all due respect to the Susn, I don’t think Duncan has to work that hard vs PHX. They are not a physical post defense, at least not without Lopez, and they don’t go at him in th epost on every other possession. This is easy for me to say since I’m not banging with with these guys but I’d be much more worried if this was the Lakers front-court or even Cleveland with Shaq’s weight leaning on him all game.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
How nice would it have been to sign Channing Frye with the BAE last off season? I’m pretty sure it was available.
While complacency costs, perseverance pays
But if Bonner ain’t hittin’ shit than his modicum of defense is worthless…‘sides at least he’s getting in there and banging with Duncan
While complacency costs, perseverance pays
He’s shown thus far that he’s a regular season player. His D works for stretches against Dirk in a way that wouldn’t for Frye. And since he makes his 3s over 82 games, he helps us get through the season. As for the post-season, he has shown that his position requires an upgrade that pushes him further down the bench.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
That’s what I used to think, but he was getting after Timmy in the 4th.

He made Duncan work for positioning in Game 2. Duncan still got his way but he eventually wore down. I think this really why Collins is also playing. They want Duncan to run out of gas in the long run and take advantage later on by allowing Amare to attack the basket.
In Manu, we trust.
