Yahoo sports spotted the Suns a game
main page quote reads “Steve Nash is lighting it up in Phoenix, where his Suns are looking to take a 2-0 series lead over the Spurs. PHX 57, SA 47 (Half)”

this isn’t bad. if manu had made that open three from the right wing off the matt bonner assist, and if the refs had called that foul on dudley on the same play, we’d be down by only six. and if tony parker’s clean block on dragic was called as such—and not a foul on a three pointer—then we would be only down three.
so for all intents and purposes, we’re down three. on the road. to a hot shooting phoenix team.

except for the whole… refs not actually calling those things.
hopefully they’ll be more on our side in the second half. the refs tend to even out over the course of a game.
"Whereas I never went fly like some of the boys." -- Ice
we’re driving more and shooting fewer jumpers. there were a few egregious missed calls. my guess is we get a few more calls, or they let us get more chippy. either way, i think we’ll get away with a tad more in the 2nd. just intuition.
granted, my intuition and a bag of chips gets you… half a bag of chips.

6 missed FTs. One made 3. Some unforced turnovers. Some sloppy officiating. SOme missed open shots and even more missed layups. I’m thinking we can recover from this.
Now, will Pop decide to stop switching on the pick and roll?
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
We definitely can if we want to bad enough.

If our plan was to make Nash a scorer rather than a distributor, we were quite successful in the 1st half.

-Mason being in the game at all.

We play well but the refs have to undermine us with at least seven horrendous calls this half.

So that I’m clear, during that Suns “run” we had a missed layup by Manu, TD had a basket taken away on a BS travel, TD had 2 FTs take away by a charge where Grant Hill was moving his feet And these misses/mstakes fed the fast break? Sound about right? Again, Mr. Salvatore ladies and gents.

This is nothing. We just need to take one game from these two and head home, they can’t beat us at home. They’ve given us their best and we’re still fighting back? We’re going to win this series, we just need to take a few losses, we knew this wouldn’t be a sweep.

No worries, peeps. We shot horribly in the game and played porous, inconsistent D while allowing them to play their own game in their own gym. No one in our Big 3 dominated in an impressive performance. Manu didn’t show. Timmy was average. We let the Great White Overrated go for over 30, and we didn’t lock up their outside shooting as well as we could have, and our roles didn’t show up.
And we were IN this game. It’s a win-win. Phx showed us nothing impressive tonight, nothing that we can’t counteract or neutralize. We learned their switches and their sets.
Phx will go home tonight and after the high fades, will reflect and realize these things. We’ve lost Game 1 to these guys before. Pop will adjust and we’ll dominate. And the greatest thing will be that this night only served to give them misplaced hope, that will then make the series loss that much more psychologically devastating.
GO SPURS GO. Nite all, I’m gonna go beat the shit out of my turtle.

Crappy game but hope is not lost
The Spurs effort for a chunk of the night can be described as an abomination. However, the fact that we made it so close in the end, despite our performance, gives me hope for Game 2. Hopefully the team will learn from this just like they learned from Game 1 against the Mavs.
Oh my goodness, they sang the Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah/Goodbye song? Don’t they realize it’s only 1 game?

i think it says something about how much it means to them to beat us, that winning game 1, GAME ONE, elicits that response.

So, this is the “bait game” to make them feel good and relax and after that the Spurs will finish them ?
Yes. Just like every time we play phx. We’re fine.

Now Pop makes moves: More Bogans, less Bonner. Tony starts. And we correct the mistakes on our pick and roll D.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
He’ll get a few minutes to save some time for our main guys. Tonight Pop did not have him as a ball handler, just as a SG. That’s where he would succeed (if he could) but he misses his two open shots. Sadly, one make changes the game. Not sure if he has it in him but if a shooter is going to find his shot, PHX is the team to play. Their supposed improved D works when playing injured teams, not here.

Tomorrow’s headlines and blog chatter: Suns have solved Spurs! Their defense wins the game. Reality: Spurs get out shot 52% – 45%, miss countless layups, open jumpers that they’ll take all series and 6 FTs to give game away. And this is without even mentioning their horrid defense in the 1st Q.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Yo bros, don’t worry it about it. They simply scored a higher amount of points than us, if we reverse that trend, we’ll win next game.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.

Reminds me of when we lost game 1 to Denver a few years back. Pop put Manu back in the starting lineup and the series was over.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Reverse, he moved Manu to the 2nd unit and we dominated from there out. Good idea though, maybe worth exploring.

Confident about a Spurs Games 2 victory
Nash and JRich had terrific shooting games. Suns don’t have an answer for Tony Parker and Tim Duncan. The Spurs players missed all their 3pt shots, but they got to the free throw line. I think Game 2 will be a different story.

Thanks for that. You’re right on. JRich was/is the X factor, and things will look much different Wednesday. They have no answer for if we show up- the key is us actually showing up.

I think the Spurs showed up, but the role players just couldn't make a shot.
The speed of the game can messed up the rhythm of young players like Hill when they are not used to playing the break neck speed of the Suns. Aside from the first quarter, I thought the Spurs out-executed the Suns. The Suns just made more outside shots.

Half his points come from fast-breaking of four mistakes/misses. Execute better and he’s under 20 points. He’s the Caron Butler of this series.

We lost this game in the 1st quarter. I blame Hill’s D and SiMA’s predictions. Hill was -22 in this game and 0-5 for 3s.
I am here to state the obvious.
he already helps more than we could have expected. RJ is the real letdown.
The form displayed by Richardson worries me.
after all talk about Hill being our “big 4th” he did nothing but hurt us tonight. I love George’s game, but he was very bad for us in this game. he also was very bad in game 1 against Dallas, but then bounced back admiringly. hopefully, he can do it again in this series.
I am here to state the obvious.
Nevermind the fact that you praised Nash endlessly before the mojo punished us by allowing him over 30, that probably had nothing to do with it.
My true prediction was that we’d lose tonight, before going on to dominate the series. And I predict that your Great White Hope will fall like a brittle maple leaf in fall.

This eerily similar to game 1 vs Dallas. Awful 1st Q put us behind and playing uphill while giving an inferior oppenent confidence. JRich had the kind of game that Butler had, where he hit his jumpers and half his points came in transition from our easy misses and turnovers. We fight bak to take the lead on a Manu 3-pt shot in the 3rd then get sloppy and give it all back before the Q ends. One final push at the end is too late.
I say we win the nest 3 just to complete the picture.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
But not against a good defensive team (hint spurs 3rd quarter this game)

JRich is the missing link for them. We’ll isolate that and lock him up next game. Players that “look good (insert recent short time range here)” don’t make a habit of it against us.

The problem is even when we caught up with them during our run, we were still playing shitty defense and just trading buckets. We need to make our effing threes…
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
Manu’s missed layup that would’ve put us up 5 led to a fast-break 3 that tied it. 5 points swing. Defense could’ve been better but, like last seres, if you miss an easy one or make a mistake it will cost you on the other end. That 5 point swing was pretty damn big at the end.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
It wouldn’t have been if we hadn’t fallen into an 11 point hole right as the game started because we decided we’d just let Nash walk into the paint and calmly score layup after layup.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
That’s part of the learning. Suns came out with their crowd determined to win the series tonight. They outplayed us early; I say tip your cap. Sadly, even with that rancid defense we didn’t help ourselves by Dyce missing two wide open jumpers plus a few other easy shots. That would’ve kept us tied while feeling them out.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
I don’t worry about the shooting too much, all you can ask if for players to shoot when they have good looks.
I worry about defense. Pop will make adjustments, he’ll chew their ass for the mental lapses they had, and the Spurs will come out in game 2 knowing what they have to do.
I just want to see the level of defense we can play against them when we really try.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
hopefully, the rest of this series will be similar to the 1st round. though I won’t mind if game 5 goes other way.
I am here to state the obvious.
don’t worry guys, mr. daniels showed me some answers tonight, and I don’t think that phoenix is as scary as I thought so before, just hope that big 3 continue to play well, our transition d improves, and i’m sure that our 3 point shooting will get better. wi will play better next game I think.
GTFOML!
To win a series 4-2 or 4-1 you’re going to have a loss. So long as we learn from the errors of tonight and adjust accordingly, we got this.
For all the talk of the Suns’ bench, ours outscored them 34-21, out-assisted 4-2 and each team played ten players. Amare led everybody with 39 minutes. RJ only played 28 which I expect to go up next game (much like the Dallas series).
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
I like your comparison to Dallas series. Nash had about as good 1st game as his buddy Dirk. JRich contributed like Butler. Terry and Amar’e are both despicable. George Hill had awful 1st games, and RJ was nowhere to be found. A lot of deja vus tonight. Now we should bounce back.
I am here to state the obvious.
nash, a class act, i’m so sorry nash, but I want you to lose. the only way I could like you more is if you either played for the spurs, or grew a mustache, so people could call you stash. you’re aweseome… but you must lose.
GTFOML!
