Grizzlies @ Spurs: Game Thread Part 2
San Antonio down by 1 at the half. The Spurs played a so-so two quartersbut somehow, I'm confident we're still going to pull this one out.

im tired of this team. im tired of pop and his dumbass rotations. im tired of our frontcour consisting of matt bonner and dejuan blair. that doesnt work. blair cant play defense and just fouls. bonner cant play defense. we need rebounders. idk how many offensive rebounds they had. im tired of mason getting minutes and contributing nothing. ive seen this all season the spurs inability to make a shot and to play defense. im tired of this
i agree with you on the mason thing the other two not really, after the all star break bonner is playing some defense if i rate +5 on his d b4 the all star….dejuan he plays d and gets the reb but we can’t manipulate his height cuz if we can its like we picked blake griffin with dejuan’s height, dejuan is great but for his position height and experienced is required he needs to learn how to use his body and defend bigger opp like gasol,if only we can have balir as our sf but ok his a pf,then have dice and duncan then that means more rebounding machines, but pop doesn’t play that he plays blair in small balls and that makes it worst!

Disagree about Bonner but I agree about everything else.
Mason has one good night last game, his first in about a year, and it didn’t even matter because we lost the game. And yet AGAIN he gets the shot out of the TWO timeouts it took to setup a play (after turning it over the first time).
And he shoots an ugly inch short of 3 TWO pointer that misses.
And yet Pop keeps playing him.
Either Pop just doesn’t give a damn, or he’s really dumb, or he actually wants to face LA (rather than Denver) in the first round.
Good news? We don’t have too much longer to suffer this shit season.
temple misses a 3
manu misses a 3
bonner turns it over
yet you want to harp on about mason’s 3, that was NOT the play they wanted, but the result of a broken play caused by the memphis defense?

not really. just saying, he wasn’t the reason we lost. 2 other guys missed 3s, and bonner had a stupid TO. picking on mason’s missed jumper with time running out seems unfair.

You’re complaining about Bonner’s miss there when he had a fantastic game and singlehandedly kept us in it for most of the game??
Stat wise, but he didn’t have his “owning” the clutch minutes type of game. In no way am I saying the loss is on him. However, no one really broke out at the key minutes even though Duncan and Manu made some bigger shots and key plays towards the end.
Manu passed to a wide open Bonner for the basket that’d put us ahead. Then to Temple for the tie. He had to assists to Timmy… What else do we need?

Spurs were definitely tired during the Phoenix game. If Pop had played a regular rotation against Memphis, they likely would have won it, despite crappy games from Dice and RJ.
Spurs 6-8 seed, regardless of where they end need to be rested and healthy while still playing some ball. They can beat anyone if they are both.
at least we know the damage TP can do before the playoffs. Pop will do the necessary adjustments once GHill is back.
If you liked it then you should have put a 5th ring on it. Oh oh oh.
Will he?
I sure as hell hope so.
If Pop starts Hill as he should when he gets back, and keeps Parker on the bench as he should until he shows he can outperform Hill again, then great. Knowing Pop… He’ll just do whatever he feels like that night, and come up with some retroactively applicable reason after it turns into a disaster.
tony can’t outperform hill

So, we are playing season like crap, then Tony broke his hand just before the toughest stretch of games. All od a sudden we start winning, Manu is out of his mind, we start to hope again. Then Tony is coming back and we play three depressing games in a row. But we know that Tim, Manu & Tony can play together. So it must be just a coincidence, right?
Next season doesn't exist. Only today exists. So say we all.
FYI – Hill is out, Parker is still getting back. And Manu has struggled for the past 3 games (although he still got point). But he was below his standards (although that’s still above most players).
Pop wanted to rest Duncan so he could play tomorrow. If Duncan had played a regular set, Memphis might not have gained rhythm. It’s not like Parker is dominating the game.
Temple is a nice surprise late, but he is no Hill.
So why is Manu struggling for last 3 games?
1) He is not as good without Hill
2) He is not as good with Parker
3) He has got his extension and is just getting ready for WC in summer now
Which are correct guesses?
Next season doesn't exist. Only today exists. So say we all.

You see, I watched the game tonight, and I didn’t like what I saw. So I kind of depressed or annoyed. I’d like to blame someone. So who should I blame? I think, Bosh is as good a target as anybody. So why cannot I blame him? You say because it’s illogical. OK, but I can still hate, right? Hate is illogical, it’s probably the most illogical feeling. So why couldn’t I illogically hate Bosh for tonight’s loss? It kind of makes sense to me.

Wow so much hate for Parker even if it’s not really earned. He’s how many games back from his month long injury?
I wonder what would happen if Spurs win this but lose in Denver
or
Spurs win tomorrow after losing this.
May be Manu is trying to chase Tony out of town? It definitely looks like that.
Next season doesn't exist. Only today exists. So say we all.
Good thing Tony didn’t come back from his injury during the playoffs. I remember people saying how we would come rested and kick ass.
Every player gets rusty…
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
Parker had 8 assists and 13 pts on 5-10 shooting. I mean it’s not like he had a crappy game either. He’s just not at star level yet.
Spurs miss Hill. The rotation is a little out of wack without him also.
Parker is playing OK. It’s the team which started to suck again, just when Hill went down and Tony came back. Even without Hill for the most of the game, we could beat the Lakers, because the team played like champs behind Manu. Now Tony is back, and the team is falling apart. Is this a coincidence?
Next season doesn't exist. Only today exists. So say we all.
That’s because RJ, Dice, Bonner all played well. Hill was there in the 1st part of the game where they stole the momentum though. Duncan also played well of course.
It’s not a coincidence. Spurs played Phoenix on a back to back. Manu was not himself. After hitting Duncan’s head, his shot was off that game. No one could hit a shot. That’s fatigue.
Spurs missed some key shots, didn’t rebound and didn’t play enough defense. RJ got burned all night. Spurs didn’t box out/didn’t rebound enough on some key defensive plays.
That was frustrating. The defense after the first quarter was nonexistent. Memphis didn’t miss many shots, yet when they did they got offensive rebounds and got more possessions off of turnovers. I realize the Spurs were tired after three games in four nights, but they had a 13-point lead, then allowed a young team to get back into it and think they were better than they really are.
Asked before the game how Parker has looked, Popovich said, "He’s still cute. "
I don’t see the team playing with the same sense of urgency and focus. They look a bit lost on the court, like they are not sure why they are there. This happens for 3 games now. May be it’s fatigue. I just losing my patience.
Next season doesn't exist. Only today exists. So say we all.
I certainly hear you on losing your patience with the “lost” look of the team.
I was a little frustrated at the Kings game because I saw this lack of cohesion up close and in person. Admittedly it was a weird night with Temple’s first time starting, etc.. but even given that they seemed a little too out of sync at times. Fortunately it was the Kings so we came around to win it (after being down 1 w/ 9 mins left). Tonight we played a bit better team, and with our lazy play we didn’t have enough to overcome it, even though we were at home.
And hopefully it is just fatigue. Because if this continues into the playoffs we’re fucked.
