Toros Claim Game One Against Wizards

The Toros opened the playoffs tonight with a gritty 98-96 win on the road at Dakota.  Or is that in Dakota?  Whatever.

I tuned in for the last three minutes, they are streaming the games on the D-League site, and got to see a great ending.

Star-divide

Alonzo Gee hit a really tough baseline jumper to give the Toros a 93-87 lead.  The Wiz immediately drained a tough 3 to cut the lead in half.  A couple turnovers and layups later the Wiz lead 96-95 with 14 seconds left.  The Toros gave the ball to CJ and he hit a pull-up jumper from the left elbow to win it for the Toros.

Our youthful Spurs:

CJ:  28 points and 10 assists.  Game winning jumper. 4-9 from 3-point.

Gee:  29 points and 9 rebounds on 12-22 shooting.

Game 2 is in Austin on Saturday.

Sup man. Good win for the farm.

Been meaning to ask you, is temple the Spurs top secret prospect ?

He looked good in Phoenix. Made a couple of really stupid turnovers, but still. Loaded with potential…

Good win without Jones and Williams.

We should send Blair down, just to win the D-League championship. It’s obvious Pop isn’t going to use him much.

Wayne, are you going to the game Saturday? Just would like to hear how both Gee and Jerrels look, since the Spurs signed them both to contracts. I still don’t know much about Gee’s game.

It’s very unlikely that I will go to the game. Gee is very interesting. He’s a crazy good athlete who is developing some offensive game. Judging from the Draft Express profile I read of him last year, he’s come a long way in his development. One would think that if he keeps working he could be fantastic.

Sorry to be off topic, it’s just that there were other guys like Marcus Williams that were seemingly more hyped. And here we have Temple who has been thrust into a starting role late in April, for Christ’s sake. And he’s been reasonably productive

I guess that is the lesson of productive vs hype.

Temple wasn’t exactly rotting away in the D League. I think we were his third NBA team and fourth 10 day contract. Marcus Williams is more hyped in the Spurs system and he isn’t a rookie so he is a more known quantity.
