Spurs Uglied One Out Against The Kings
Nothing bad and nothing great. Just a bunch of mediocre story lines in the game.
- RJ was solid
- Garrett Temple got the start and was good
- McDyess made his jumpers and rebounded
- Blair made layups
- Timmy stayed awake
- Tony got some court time
- Manu owned the fourth
I think that pretty much sums it up.
Let's face it. The Kings aren't a good team right now and we are. We played just hard enough and got just enough plays from our stars and just enough contribution from our role players to win.Tony
He looked like you'd expect. Ragged. He didn't have the confidence to really drive the ball to the rim and seemed content to just get up and down the court and run the offense. He turned the ball over a lot -- he had 4 of our 11. Still, it was good to see him out there running around. Pop kept his minutes down to just over 16.
Rage
Yep, he's still coming along. He made some shots early and stepped up in the fourth with some big plays. It was very nice to see. I'm starting to think he's getting it.
Tim
He played 22 minutes and went 5 of 12 from the field and didn't get to the line. He did pick up a technical and grab 10 rebounds. Heading into tomorrow night's game against the Suns, I'll take it.
Blair
He's a garbage collector. He made all six shots and grabbed 4 boards. All defensive.
McDyess
He had his jumper going early and ended with 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting. He also led us with 11 boards and he picked up 3 assists.
Garrett Temple
He got his first NBA start and he was really good. 15 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds with only 1 turnover. He's a long guard who looks like he can play some defense. If anybody caught his post-game interview with Bill Land and PJ Carlesimo, then you know why the Spurs like him. He is a Spur through and through.
Manu
The Man With No Swagger just makes big plays. 11 fourth quarter points. Big defensive plays. He's just the man.

It was like a mid-November game.

Yep. One more story line – the announcers forgot there was a game on most of the time. One the plus side, when they did remember the game they came up with stunning insightful comments such as “Manu is a good player” (paraphrasing here), and also some great breakdown of plays, e.g. “Tyreke scores”. I think that was as deep as they got.
yeah. What was with those guys? They were depressing. Sounded like they were calling a PGA event.
I did not return empty handed. I came back with two huge handfulls.
A win is a win and this is sometimes how good teams beat lesser teams. Good win. Temple looks like a better and better pick up all the time. Let’s hope Parkers finishing improves with playing.

tony hit the j it was 44 so when tony hit it it should be 46 then rj 3 49…what’s up with that
i mean is there a score malfunction before tony’s shot?
hmm its fine because we win but if cost us something i think that would have been a prob
I think they gave us two extra points at 40 or 42, and then took it back just before RJs 3. Their scores must have celebrated their glorious season a bit too much.
Next season doesn't exist. Only today exists. So say we all.
Woah.Check out Mcdyess. 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting, 11 rebs, in 30 minutes.
Im convinced he likes f%cking with me
Crappy teams fear us !
The last two seasons we’ve had an April game in Sac and barely won by 3. Tonight was easy by comparison. When Timmy started slow I was cursing Pop for not resting him tonight (and still think it was a mistake) as it reminded me of NJ where he should not have played. I am glad he was kept under 30 minutes. Might Pop sit him @PHX?
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Jesus Mason sucks. They need to shelf him till the playoffs start and give his stupid finger a chance to heal

This is what I’ve been saying. ;)
This is also why Temple got minutes. They are starting to trust Mason Jr less and less. If If Parker was further along, I could see him not playing, even if Hill was out.
Garrett Fucking Temple. That’s who our starting point guard was. And we fucking won. And our small forward…don’t even talk about him.
what? he played well? lalalala i’m not listening lalalala

I agree about Temple. I really like his game and playing that well in his first significant NBA minutes, not to mention he started, bodes well for the Spurs. I like that fact that he can handle PG duties, but could also easily slide over to the SG position.
I don’t know – I still haven’t figured out the whole playoff roster thingy; who’s eligible, who’s not. But I was thinking more for the future.
Don’t live in the future, Cap. There’s so much for you here, in the present!

“Legend of the Hidden” Temple’s eligible for the playoffs. Plus, IRC, the Spurs—-like every team in the playoffs—-can activate and deactivate guys between games. I think with Tony’s recent return and Hill’s recent injury Temple won’t be wearing a sports-jacket too often in the playoffs.
Wish Pop would just permanently deactivate Mason Jr. though; I’m sure he’s eager to show off his stylish wardrobe collection.

I don’t think anybody was surprised by TPs turnovers, he has that many when he’s healthy and has been in a rhythm by playing every day.
Blair wasn’t a garbage collector last night. He was a diamond polisher – he lived off sweet Manu’s P&R.
I smell death... everywhere.
not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, but I also thought that the Kings made a lot of jumpers last night. While the Spurs missed a lot of open jumpers that normally go in, like Bonner’s and Mason’s open 3’s. That probably would’ve widened the lead for us even more but we still played well despite that.
GTFOML!
seriously though…he can take those 3’s any day he wants…I was shocked not one of them went in…just not his day I guess
The McDyess/Blair combination was terrific. Twenty-five points and 15 rebounds from this two…I’d like that more often.
Jefferson’s much improved. His shot might not always fall, but he’s rebounding, he’s trying to get to the rim, trying to be a finisher. He understands his role better.
