Amen, sistah! Interesting perspective…but shouldn’t Manu make more than RJ????
Honestly. You kids today, with your hippity-hop music and your Twiddle. - Lauri
Rj should take a pay cut or restructure to open up some cap space if he wants to keep playing with Manu .

No way he does that. After his crappy season he is going to have a tough time getting this much money again, he is not going to essentially give away his money. And nor should he – the Spurs don’t suddenly offer Blair, Hill, Manu more money after they outperform expectations – it is a business. Also, suppose he takes a pay cut then they trade him anyway?
So the Spurs’ regret now isn’t that they will have to pay to keep Ginobili. It’s wondering what they could have done the past two post-seasons with Ginobili playing like this.
- This.
Honestly, we’d have defeated the Lakers in six games and the Celtics in 7 in ‘08. We also would’ve been the #2 seed in ’09, beating NOLA then Denver while likely taking LA the full seven before losing. So his value is that we would have one more trophy, one more defeat of LA and one more trip to the WCF. 2010 playoffs is makeup time.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Although, one could argue, that the Spurs likely would have another ring if Manu doesn’t foul Dirk for that And One. That was definitely a momentum changer.
...if Manu doesn’t foul Dirk for that And One. (That´s Bullshit)
That´s the way brainwash act in peoples mind. —> Manu lost that Game —> Manu lost that championship —> ….
1.- When Manu fouls Dirk, the Spurs had 21 seconds to play. In that span both Manu and Tim missed Layups. The last one was Tim miss.
2.- In Overtime, our beloved star Tim Duncan crashed!!!: He was 1-7 in OT, plus 1 TO (for traveling).
Carbahia, you forgot.
Not only is Manus foul NOT the reason the Spurs lost, but Manu is one of the reasons the Spurs were in a position to win the game after coming back from the insurmountable lead.
Crappy teams fear us !
It’s not. They still had OT. But the team was exhausted. It was like, they did everything to come back and now they had OT and Dallas had the momentum.
This game was a good example of how momentum can do crazy things. If the Spurs had gone own to play Miami, Manu might have had a Finals MVP (since he had a great post season so far until then).
Go easy on Timmy, he did crash in OT, but what a phenomenal game he played. He was tired.
Crappy teams fear us !
Momentum killers can make a huge difference in a key game. It went from the Spurs likely winning that game to an OT game. The Spurs were never the same once that play went through.
There are no guarantees the Spurs win the championship if that doesn’t occur, but the Spurs were way more equipped to beat the Heat than the D-less Mavs.
I don’t lose my sleep over it. Nor am I mad. I still love Manu, but it was a lost opportunity. It is what it is though. You get good and bad with the type of game Manu brings. Most of the time it’s a lot of good.
And yes, Manu was a key player in the comeback to get them into the 7th game. Lets not forget Duncan or Finley (who was really giving it to his old team)
We’ll never know. Without him we wouldn’t have had the lead. And without the foul, we’re up one and shooting FTs. Who’s to say that we don’t miss one and are only up two. Or up three and a Mavs player makes a three. What cost us, besides opening the game flat and playing up hill all game, was Manu’s missed (difficult) layup and Timmy getting fouled on the putback without a call. He should’ve gotten the same ref love as Dirk but never did all series. Which is a whole different story about games three & four, otherwise known as a Stern Special.
Those were mostly all things the Spurs could control. Manu getting hurt unfortunately was not.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
One thing I’ve been wondering, when do the penalties go into effect for a team that’s over the salary cap? At the end of the season?
Couldn’t they sign Manu to a nice contract and in the middle of the year trade RJ and in essence clear some cap space? I’m asking because I don’t have the slightest idea…
They’d have to take back at least 80% of RJ’s salary to make that work. So, they might be able to pay LESS lux tax, but there’s no way they’d avoid it.

They can’t avoid this year’s tax. They can avoid next year’s (which would be the first year Manu’s new contract would exist) if RJ opted out. But why in their right mind walks away from 15M?
I mean that would be crazy. As a fan, I wish he would, but it’s the most money he’ll get in a while. Heck, that covers 5M for 3 more years of play. Any way you slice, it it’s a bad bet for a player to tun that amount of money down.
Obviously, it’s a difference case than Duncan who revised his contract when he did an extension. But that was because it was an extension and not just a player option on another year.
