Our defense really isn’t the problem considering how many fast-breaks our awful offense created. We won’t any game with Manu and Timmy shooting this poor but I expect them to get it together. I also don’t like all the switching and doubling since it’s giving up many offensive boards.

I think the key is stopping the people who are breaking down the defense and getting Marion open looks. It would be a major win for the Spurs if Marion tried to score one-on-one.

He and Timmy have been forcing some shots. Pop tried to give them an extended rest between quarters since we actually had the lead (and I agree in light of the minutes TD played last game and Manu’s nose). Mavs are focused on not letting Manu get to the rim or shoot a 3.

I’m glad the half came when it did. Dirk has 10 points on four shots but the Mavs have 48 points despite going too much to Butler early. This would be why we need to let Dirk shoot contested shots and hold everyone else down. We do that and win. We do this and trail. As for our shooting, aye…

The official rules specifically state that with less than .3 seconds, it is physically impossible inbound, catch, and to release a shot that is deemed good. “.1” is simply worthless. You can’t even accurately call a foul in that time. It’s only useful for alley-oops, and even then, completely subjective to official reliably.

Interesting. It also depends on how fast the operator gets the clock going. Can they review a delay in the clock starting? If we are going to make rules abount 0.1 seconds and reviews are allowed there should defnitly be a second decimal point on the clock so that they can see when it was supposed to start.

I’ve always found that funny too. No one ever mentions or punishes or ridicules the clock operator when there’s a failure on their part. That one non-basketball related person could single-handedly change the course of an entire season, and no one ever even brings it up.

I think you make them accountable by making reviewable and having more precision on the clock. Or better something like an additional green light when the clock is started. And the video they watch should be synchronized with the clock so that they can see right there how things went.

Or even better, like some hockey technologies, the official’s whistle is linked with a chip that is networked to the clock, and starts automatically when the ball is touched (after the official blows) and play begins. Or putting a connected chip that is calibrated to determine jarring stop (or connection with a human hand) within the ball. That would solve all of it, AND make the officials solely responsible.

The problem is human reflexes aren’t fast enough. When you have ridiculous tenths of a second left, the clock operator will never be fast enough or accurate enough to start the clock at the right time.

nope. it can be done, and not just due to slow reactions by time keepers. there was a bit on an episode of “sports science” where they got jason kapono to test how quickly it can be done. he got a shot off in 0.22 seconds.

Funny you should mention that. The mojo not only exists, but it seems to care about my health. I got on the elliptical machine, and the Spurs started their 3rd quarter comeback. I had that thing set for 30 minutes, but ended up spending damn near an hour getting my cardio workout on. Thanks, mojo!

Considering that the Lakers are faltering, the Nuggs are psychologically out of it, Utah and Portland are hurt, and Mavs are basically done, I’m only worried about OKC and Phoenix right now.
Utah’s a threat as long they have Deron, Boozer, and Sloan. It’s like a zombie – you have to burn it to make sure it’s dead.

If you watch the guy coach, I imagine he’s not too pleasant to stand next to. He’s sweaty, swearing, loses his voice some time in the third quarter. Incredibly animated guy. I think every game he coaches takes minutes off his life.

you guys were the real champs in 2006. don’t like the mavs, but you guys got fucked over by some really shady officiating that year. don’t know if it would happen again after all the negative publicity for it, but at least in this fan’s mind, you guys were the real winners in 2006…
