Dunleavy Fired as GM
Apparently, the Clippers decided that 7 years of mediocrity was enough.

Guess they want to try and be a real team, what with Blake Griffin coming back next year. I like Griffin, but cannot stand Sterling so am a little conflicted about whether to wish them well or now. Wish they would trade Griffin (e.g. to us :-), then I would be less conflicted.
This is how I feel about the Thunder. I want to like them, I really do, and I love the players they have… but the owner is a complete you-know-what.

From all the stories, Donald Sterling is not a good owner. From being cheap to even being a little racist. This is just from what I have read/seen on the internet.
Bennett and Company don’t hold a candle to Sterling’s evil black heart.

I think they are planning to offer LeBron the opportunity to be the first ever player/coach/GM next year.
The Lakers "Too big, too strong, too long, too good."
Bill Russell almost did that, he was player-coach, but not GM.

Yeah, there were several teams with player coaches over the years. I’m sure Russell was fine but . . .
The Lakers "Too big, too strong, too long, too good."
He was the first black NBA coach and won two rings in three seasons.

They had won 8 championships in a row. Red Auerbach became GM of the Celtics and asked I think three players to become player-coach. They all turned it down for some reason and so he asked Russell who said yes.
The first year they made it to the East finals but lost to the Sixers who then proceeded to win the the championship.
The next two years, and without being favorites as they were in years before, they won the championship with Russell being 35 at that time. In one of those years they overcame a 3-1 series deficit to win the series in 7, the first time ever that had happened.
It’s often forgotten that Russel was the first black coach in the NBA, and that in his time he had to endure acts of humiliating racism that would make him have a disdain of the fans.
I think a biopic should be made of his life, so that more people can acknowledge his amazing achievements and how he changed the game.

That’s very cool. Thanks for the history lesson.
Almost makes me wish I didn’t hate the Celtics so much when I was growing up, so that I would have let myself acknowledge that not all of them were evil straight through to their core.
Most of them are, of course, just not Russell.

I don’t know what Bill Simmons is going to do now. Dunleavy was 85% of what he wrote/complained about!
I’m sure the Clips will bring in someone like Isiah Thomas or Terry Porter or something. Hey how long is Pop under contract? Maybe he’d like to change it up and go Hollywood. A short flight/drive to Napa Valley, etc.
The Lakers "Too big, too strong, too long, too good."
If proximity to Napa Valley is a deciding point, than shouldn’t Pop be trying to steal Nellie’s job? It’s not like Nellie would care.
Yeah, I thought about that but he doesn’t want to play in “Oakland” or “Sacramento” even. I think there is a reason they call themselves “Golden State”.
Besides with Blake Griffin, Kaman, Baron Davis (OK maybe not him), plus another lottery pick, etc. he ought to be able to make something out of that mess once he signs Manu away from the Spurs this offseason. :) I’m just saying it wouldn’t be the NBA’s worst roster.
He could also go head-to-head with the Lakers & put that annoying Phil Jackson in his place. Just saying he could do worse.
Come to think of it the Lakers don’t have Jackson on contract beyond this year. Maybe he’d like a change of scenery without having to give up his beach house.

I don’t believe that Jackson will ever coach for another NBA team as long as he lives.

Last week’s controversy was about the Lakers possibly asking Jackson to take a pay cut because of the state of the NBA economy. And if Jackson would go elsewhere to coach someone special like LeBron.
Phil has obvious connections in Chicago and NY/NJ where he was during his playing days.
(This week it is about the Lakers’ 3 game losing streak. Next week? Who knows?)
