My three favourite songs.
This is GREAT Belgian music. I love them…

And Pop is fucking laughing right now. See it?
Like he’s so amazed that Mason could continue to miss. Really Pop? How can a basketball ignorant idiot like me see that he can’t make a shot the whole game, but Pop thinks “Doesn’t matter, it all averages out, he’s due to make one by now for sure.”
Give me a fucking break.
it’s a game. you take risks

Educated risks.
You take the risk that has the best odds. Not the one that has the worst odds, literally.
who are your other options? the entire stadium knew it was going to manu

The other option was a wide open George Hill in the corner. Mason knew he was cold and knew George had a much higher percentage shot. He should have passed but he wanted to be the hero.
I don’t blame Pop for calling a good play and I don’t blame Roger for missing the shot. I blame Roger for not making the right play. If he can’t make the right play he shouldn’t be in the rotation.

If you need a 3 in the end of a game, you try to get an open shot for one of your 3-point specialists. If you manage to do this, it is a successful possession. He may make or miss, of course. You just live with the results. If you don’t trust Mase enough to give him an open 3, there is no reason to have him on the team whatsoever. He is our designated 3-point specialist.

Dear Manu,
I’m sorry. I’m sorry about RJ, and Mason, and the contract thing. I’m sorry about all of it. Please don’t go. You look really good in black, and no one will ever love you like this—you have to realize that.
Think about it, please? I’m sealing this envelope with my tears.

Mase RJ and Dice all blew it big time for us tonight.
But that final play for Mason was by Pop. There are no words.
They were gonna crowd Manu. We got a wide open shot for an established shooter who is due sometime this century. Pop “What more do you want”
I don’t know people, Mace proved last year that he can hit clutch shots. And clutch players usually don’t care about wether they’re 0-10, they can still hit the shot. It wasn’t a bad play call by Pop, he knew they were watching Manu. Too bad RoMaJu couldn’t deliver.
Damn you Roger!
mase hasnt really been playing most of the year and he is ice cold tonight… chances are he misses again…
ROBBLE ROBBLE ROBBLE
I seriously expected Mase to make the last one. Was a perfect pass too.

nah it was a good play, mase was wide open and Manu had 3 guys on him, the blame is on mase

In retrospect, I kinda agree. And maybe Pop was trying to get a message across to Mase, like he was saying, “You wanted more minutes. Here you go. You wanted a bigger role in the team. Here you go. Now prove you deserve all of these.”
But alas, Mase failed.

Yeah I think this was a part of it to. Also part of why Pop was smiling at the end.
And my point is, making THIS POINT is not worth losing a very important very winnable game.
Sigh. How many more times are we going to lose games against teams without their best player?

Manu, is time to leave (and live)
Mason 0-8 in treys. And he got his requested minutes.
Manu, don´t waste your time and heart with your overpaid and heartless mates. Except TD, Hill & Blair your mates suck. Get out of SA
I love Manu, CarB, but I also love ’em Spurs. We all love Manu, really.
But if I want the Spurs to be faithful to Manu, I have to ask the same of him. They might not be playing well, but I don’t have a doubt that everyone in that teams wants to win. Even RJ.

Roger Mason Jr wasn’t the only one stinkin up the court tonight.
DIce sucked
RJ rebounded, but didn’t score anything… which is not what he was brought in for
Tim Duncan was a no show.
Rocket and Hill where the only guys that helped Manu tonight. And even then they missed shots down the stretch.
Dice had four points on eight shots. Not okay at all.
Blair was on the court for only 10 minutes, 10 uneventful minutes. For being one of the guys that actually connects with Manu you think he would’ve been on the court more, even with those crap fouls.
Blair was lazy on the floor tonight, which is why he got pulled. Varajao beat him downcourt once which blew a fuse in one of Pop’s zits. He walked on a beautiful Manu pass. He fell for the “skills” for Varajao on a really slow motion bad fake. Blair sadly was entirely ineffective.

Through it all, we stayed up. We didn’t even have a RQC.
We just failed (besides Manu) on a couple key possessions in the finaly 2 minutes of the game. Can’t even blame the refs this time, amazingly.
Hill had a chance at the corner 3 he’d already made multiple times.
Duncan lazily passed the ball to West.
Dice failed on almost all of HIS shots, wide open.
Mason sucks, on D and on O, has for a year now. Period.
And at the end of it all, Ginobili’s near 40pts genius, Pop steps up as the biggest failure of all, making the game-losing play for …wait for it…..it’s so bad and obvious you couldn’t even joke about it….Mason. (See above.)
I’d say there was a FQC

Can’t blame Pop at all in this one bro. Pop went with his guts. Took a chance. One chance. He gave his team all the chances to get it right before that. What more can one do.
agree, it was a good play, Mase was WIDE open and miss it, this one is on Mase

Pops worst decision was pulling Manu with 6:41 left. 85-80 was instantly 85-85. If the guy needs rest have someone fake an injury.
by doggydogworld1 on Mar 8, 2010 8:53 PM CST up reply actions
I dunno, this was far from his worst mistake. Ginobili played almost 37 mins. I think a quick minute or two or rest there before bringing him back to finish it (which he quickly did, though admittedly after we had then lost the lead) was not a bad idea.
In other words, that was a risk-reward situation. End of game Mase FTW very bad risk-reward.
i know..but why take a chance on someone who’s not shooting well..oh no! sorry, i am just really frustrated..grrr….i would rather see us lost a game with lebron playing on the other team…
If you’ve ever played poker you’d understand the idea of taking a good, educated, chance vs a bad chance. Taking a bad chance, or going with bad odds, is just gambling, and you’ll always lose in the long run.
You go with the best chance, not the worst one.
Mason was 0%. That’s – literally – the worst chance.
Other than obviously Ginobili if he could manage to get half-way open, Bonner or Hill would have been far better chances than 0% FTW Mason.
I’m convinced Pop did this just because of his ego. If Mason had made it, he would be hailed as crazy genius for going to Mase despite his previous 0-7. And if he misses, Pop’s ego still wins because he can say to Mason and the world “See I was right about not giving [Mason] minutes, he proved it.”
An open shot is your best chance. We got that and time for him to get set. The coach’s job was to get one of his 3 pt shooters the best open shot. Pop did that, poker or no poker.
Could he have gotten the same open shot for Manu, maybe or maybe not. Anyways, in the playoffs, he would prob go with Manu. But right now is a good time to spread the confidence of his team as far as faith in players go. We could go on, but there is no clear choice is my only point. Open shot is the real criteria and that was accomplished. Remember Timmeh vs Phoenix game one playoffs?
Mase is making 36.8% of his 3s. He made more 3s this season than any Spur not named Manu. His job is to make the 3s, and he is paid $3.78M to do that for the Spurs this season. He barely does anything else. He had a wide open shot. I think, this possession was drawn and played perfectly. Pop did his job, and Manu did his job. Too bad Mase was not able to do his job. May be instead of complaining about his playing time, he should put more time to practice 3s. Also, he should donate his salary for tonight’s game.
We should start rebuilding around Durant
I agree with you, I cannot believe this is thought of as a good play. He didn’t hit a single shot and he’s expected to hit the biggest shot of the game? The fuck is this?
That’s like having a player being burned by another player the whole game and saying, okay for this last play, you defend the guy who’s been torching you all night.
It just does not make sense.
To serve man.
Gustatus similis pullus.
Well, Pop had to get somebody a shot – an open shot with enough time to get off a balanced one. Or else he could let Manu wing it, wouldn’t be a good coaching decision a’la Podgy face in Denver, but Manu might have made it work.
The only guy on the team who can bury a quick 3 ptr coming off a screen is Mason (Finperro is back in the mummified state). Now the chances of getting Manu an open shot would take excellent execution by the rest of the team and showing scouts probably a playoff caliber out-of-bounds play from Pop. The chances of the former happening at that point looked pretty bleak, it’s much easier to get a designated shooter whom everybody has forgotten about a good look. It does make sense.
Now since its Manu, he could have made a completely off balance step back 3 ptr over two pairs of hands, or he could have missed at which point we would all say, man, Pop has lost it and can’t even draw up a good play. But all is good. Manu kept us in the game and it was his to loose. But if yer the coach, that won’t make sense. No matter who got you there, you use the best tactic from that point on to get you the win. Which in this case is an open look with time on the clock for our designated shooter. I think.
I get that, but I disagree that our best shot rests in the hands of someone who hasn’t made a shot the whole game.
Sometimes players are off, it happens. But I don’t think it’s a good idea to try to get them going by taking the last shot of the game.
Not that I’m blaming Mason for the loss, the Spurs shouldn’t have been in that situation to begin with.
To serve man.

My reaction to tonight's game
No Lebron, Shaq, or Jamison (in the fourth), are you kidding me!
Sigh
Watched the first quarter my PVR (like TiVo (sp?) in the States) and although the Spurs were up by a bucket, I just had a bad feeling about the way the game was going. So in need of some sleep I fast forwarded to the last play of the game and… sigh :(

Id love to blame Mason. Its easy to blame Mason. The play Pop drew up was beautiful. Mason and Hill were both wide open. I would have liked to see Mason make the extra pass to Hill in the corner. It shouldn’t have come down to that. The Spurs shot 24% in the 4th. THAT is why they lost. Poor execution on the offensive end.
I still do not cease to be filled with wonder at these types of Richard Jefferson games. 3 points ? Even more unbelievable though is that he took three shots. THREE.
On the plus side though, he had 9 rebs in 28 minutes…
Tough loss, but I wanna see our guys in the Playoffs.
