So, the Lakers come into our house and destroy us. It had to be, although Manu in his christ-like martydom tried like hell to win the game for us (apologies to religious folks). Was it a surprise, maybe if you had only watched the first half and totally forgot what the team looked like this year. More after the hop.
This game was an easy one to call after the first half. How could you possibly do that? Hindsight is 20/20 for one, don't get me wrong I was cheering for the good guys but.............after most of our points were coming from an aging but spectacular Argentinian and a point guarding jump shooter the wheels were bound to fall off. No interior defense, no interior offense against a team that boasts three true seven footers. Our team looked great the first half - but face it - we are old and it showed. There was no way that the Spurs could keep it up in the 2nd, especially if no one stepped up to fill the gaping void left by the pathetic offensive put out by Timmy. Criticize Pop, why bother? Other than hanging the ALBATROSS around the Spurs neck, I think he is doing what he can. I don't like all the line up changes and often times scratch my head but can he really do more with what he has?
This team is taking us all for a rollercoaster ride, including themselves. Sparks of greatness are quickly followed by quarters and minutes of complete and utter black holeness. Nothing escapes from blackholes, not even flying superheroes such as our Manu. Good game but we had to play the second half. Like I told my soccer team the other day after a 1-3 beating. If we had only played the first half we would have won - if the Spurs had only played the first half they would have won. In this instance it is too bad that basketball (and soccer) had a second half.
