A proposal

It's a proposal...well I don't know if you'll like it though...

Star-divide

You see my fave team is crashing my dream for this season-Spurs winning the fifth ring.

My proposal is that, certainly I don't know what It'll bring. I mean guys who are starting have came off the bench except-Parker(correct me if I'm wrong).

What I would like to say is that, why can't we try to fit with Rj's game, maybe it'll work. He is playing great with Gino, tonight's loss was just a product of Timmy not being Timmy, we could have won that if Hill and Tim played well, even if Dice didn't play well as long as he can alter shots, defend and rebound I think we could have a better chance winning it. This game is a perfect epitome that if RJ is playing with Manu, he is RJ,unfortunately he and Manu were the only once who showed up.

If we can start Hill at the point and let TP be the 6th man, I think it would be great especially TP coming off from the injury. Anyways if we ever win games against boston,L.A or CLE without TP and everybody reads the same page I think when TP comes back it would be great cuz it will not destroy the chemistry of the starting 5. Im not getting rid of tony, i mean without him were not complete we can't have +2 rings(the much improve tony is what i mean),and help us to win three more and that gives as 4.

This situation is Jameer Nelson-like. If Tony is present in the playoffs, i would love to see him play after we win

2 -0 in the first round,we'll then put him on the starting 5 with limited minutes and the other game win or lose off the bench with limited time,I think it won't really give any difference cuz its limited, but then we may see if it breaks the chemistry or not. I mean RJ is doing everything and I'm having pity on him for trying and maybe its the team's time to lift his burden( I know pop and the team are also trying). I really hope we'll win 10 of the 16 games and better if 12... but it'll be very very very very very very very very very very very tough.(typed very, no copy paste...hehehe).

So do you think this is good or bad?!

Please post your comments!

Thank you!

I like the idea of bringing TP off the bench, mainly because I think he fits better with our bench personnel than he does with the starters. < Screamin’ A Smith >How-evuh< /Screamin’ A Smith >, I somtimes wonder if Tony’s ego would allow that to happen. He could be an absolute terror off the bench, and a no-brainer for 6th man if he did it for an entire season, but something tells me he would be pretty unhappy about it.

Definitely. That’s one way to make Tony demand a trade.

I smell death... everywhere.

I don’t think he will like it, but he’ll swallow it. It would be bad for his Spur-image if he didn’t agree to it.

GTFOML!

I think this is good.

TP´s got a chance to watch and learn how this “new team” is doing things. If the Spurs keep playing well, then TP can use his learning of what he saw on March and April.

by CarBahia on Mar 18, 2010 8:25 AM CDT reply actions

I agree with Tim. Not sure TP would want that. So I’d rather start TP, Hill, Bogans, Duncan, and McDyess. Then make our bench Gino, Jefferson, Bonner, Blair and then whomever else can come in at point. I like the thought of our bench being so dynamic. It’s been a little rough without the spark Ginobili brings.

by GMac14 on Mar 18, 2010 9:22 AM CDT reply actions

I like this except I’d rather see Hairston starting over Bogans. I think Hairston needs to play more and Bogans is the odd man out in my opinion.

by Big50 on Mar 18, 2010 10:17 AM CDT up reply actions

i agree on hairston starting. i would also love to see yawn in the last 3 games starting i mean if we already reached 50 right?i don’t know about parker’s ego…i think he’ll be like odom, he’ll break a flat screen tv be sad and angry for a week and has no energy playing for 5 games & then would love his position after 2 weeks or a month… i think tony needs to understand this…he better ask rj and manu with that…
see even Duncan HAS NO EGO ON BEING STUPIDLY BENCHED… we all know he has no ego and hopefully parker too…

Last 3 games after we’ve already reached 50? You feel comfortable posting stuff like that in an open forum which the DEA might read?

by doggydogworld on Mar 18, 2010 12:41 PM CDT up reply actions

This proposal ignores the fact that Tim plays well with Parker at the point. From the beginning of his career as a Spur, Tony always played Timmy-centric game. During the years, the two developed great chemistry. It is not a coincidence that Tim has not been himself after Tony went down with a broken hand. To me, this is the reason why Tony should start, unless we are ready to bring Tim from the bench (blasphemy!) Manu and RJ can come from the bench together.

We should start rebuilding around Durant

well i guess you have ur point….tim is not tim….bringing tony off the bench is just a proposal but i think with that brought up…u got a point….our bench doesn’t look solid without rj and manu…as i’ve said above…without tony we are incomplete…like now…i guess that would be one of the consequences…..but hairston should get more time so as yawn..its pretty obvious dice is not dice and sometimes bogans shows up sometimes not…better give this talents some time…that’s if we’re playoff secured and got 50 wins, which would be hard…

by tp_09 on Mar 18, 2010 10:36 AM CDT up reply actions

This I my other concern. It’s not a huge difference, but Tim and Tony seem to play a bit better together than Tim and Manu. Manu, on the other hand, brings out the best in Blair and our cutters. This means that the optimal lineups from an offensive standpoint are:

Tony’s team: Tony//Tim//3 spotup shooters
Manu’s team: Manu//Blair//3 motion players

Tim and George would work in either of those lineups, but RJ and Blair absolutely work best with Manu running the show. Conversely, I think Dice works best when Tony is feeding him those midrange jumpers. I’m curious to see if Mahinmi could join the “Manu” team as one of those motion players, but I’m fairly certain Hairston would do well in that set as well.

Either way, to get optimum results, I’d be changing the starting unit in one way or another. Most likely having “Tony’s team” start, and then gradually bringing in “Manu’s team” off the bench. It’s a pretty radical way to deal with it, though.

This might all be a moot point when Tony gets back. I dont see Pop jacking with the chemistry the team has developed over the course of 22 some-odd games by thrusting Tony back into the starting lineup.

But the thought of a rested Tony coming off the bench and attacking the rim is exciting…

This isnt going to be your typical lower seed, thats for damn sure

Crappy teams fear us !

I totally see Tony starting. There is a concern of course that his shot may be off, but his legs should be rested. I expect him to be as good as he ever has been this season. My biggest concern with this team is that we consistently unable to beat good teams. Well, in the playoffs we’ll need to beat an elite team 4 times, including at least once on their floor. Nothing I have seen this season so far convinced me that this is possible. I stay hopeful though.

Playoffs are hardly guaranteed, if you’ve seen the scheduling gauntlet the Spurs have to go through to end the season.

Of course, they are not guaranteed, but if we cannot win enough games to get to the playoffs, there is hardly a point for getting there anyway. Our schedule gives us a preview for the level of competition we’ll meet in the playoffs if we get there. If we’ll play other elite teams similar to how we played yesterday, we have no business going to the playoffs.

Playoffs? Playoffs?

4-0 vs. Warriors, Nets, Kings and Wolves
3-3 vs. Hawks, Thunder, Celtics, Rockets, Suns and Griz
0-6 vs. Lakers, Cavs, Magic, Lakers, Nuggets and Mavs
-—-
7-9 home stretch equals 47-35 final record.

Memphis would have to finish 11-2, tough even with their cupcake schedule.. Houston would have to finish 12-4 against a non-cupcake schedule.
And frankly if the Spurs don’t improve enough to finish better than 7-9 they have no hope of advancing, anyway.

by doggydogworld on Mar 18, 2010 7:50 PM CDT up reply actions

I hope we could finish 10-6 and get to 50 wins.

You nailed it. Tony and Tim pick and roll is a huge piece of the offense.

I can’t believe last night did not kill off all thoughts of George Hill as the starting point guard. He didn’t just have a bad night, he was exposed as a young 2-guard trying to play point. You can pull that off against mediocre competition, including Magic/Cavs/Lakers bench players. But against elite starting 5s? No.

by doggydogworld on Mar 18, 2010 12:51 PM CDT up reply actions

well guys im not tryingto get rid of tp…but there are so many situations that i think might help us and hopefully won’t be a bust…if we can’t win now and if we have developed a better chemistry going to the playoffs for next season then i guess we would have a better chance then(nxt yr)…drafting a really good big man and signing raja bell…and i would love top see c.jackson’s potential…….anyways…if we ever trade tony i would love it to be with deron,ty thomas(we can get him without sacrificing tony) or durant.but right now i still got hopes for this team…can’t wait to see the game tonight…….and if ever we can’t have tiago this year(c’mon we can’t wait for him until post duncan era)…why not trade his rights with mason for bosh?!…but these are just speculations…im bringing this up not to get rid of him but at least to find something that might help the team as a whole, whether he’ll start, benched or be traded… i still got love for tony, but if until next year we can’t win, i don’t know what we lack then?!a big man-we should draft one, 1st rnd.an sf-sign bell. another big man-so that we can’t play small ball, get tiago,if not get durant or bosh for mase and his rights.i love mase but with time given to him his not showing up.and some one wrote we need to get blake griffin…seriously this kid has talent but i don’t know if he’ll be a bust like thabeet, or has that talent but would be injury prone like oden, but through the preseason games he played i can see his great but its preaseson not the season..and one said we need a college reserve guard in Bledsoe(i’ll research on him),but why not go for number one wall,we can get CDR with wall and some cash for tony…but that would be unrealistic…

by tp_09 on Mar 19, 2010 6:59 PM CDT reply actions

and guys tony is not our chauncey billups IMO…we need him but why not try him off the bench, trading bloc and stuff….emotionally we hate guys go,but in business matters and team improvement it’ll be risky but why can’t we try…our billups as we all know and IMO is MANU GINOBILI!
