Spurs @ Timberwolves - March 12th - Game Thread
I don't see a game thread created for tonight's game. So, hope this post is used by folks to chat away during the game. It's been an oddly quiet day. Hope spurs make our days better.
This must be an easy game for the Spurs, we should wrap it up quickly and rest our starters as much as possible for tomorrow's game against the Clippers. I haven't done this before, so I will leave it here. Go Spurs Go.

Just read from E-N this..
The WOAI pregame show just had Antonio McDyess interviewed by Bill Schoening. McDyess said he is still worried about his knee.
I can’t chat during the game but come in at quarters and half and read up a bit. Pop will piss me off if he plays Mason more than Hairston tonight. Have a good chat.
Apparently Rage played good in our last game against the TWolves. As ppl have said in various posts, I am beginning to wonder, does Rage have any self respect at this point? He is getting away with highway robbery at this point.
I read an article about stackhouse talking smack abt RJ today. It is funny that stackhouse said what he said, but I think it is true
"I just don’t think he’s as good as everybody talked him up to be, to me," said Stackhouse. "I mean, I think he has some talent, he’s an athlete but a lot of the best basketball we’ve seen from Richard Jefferson came when he played with Jason Kidd, when he was just pretty much spoon-fed at the basket and was able to run out and just be an athlete. When it comes down to a half-court set and just being able to play half-court basketball I don’t think he’s that special of a player, in my opinion. It’s just one of those things where it’s just not a good fit. It wasn’t a great fit for him in Milwaukee when he was here. He had some big games but really nothing special. He wasn’t a guy that really helped them go to another level as far as wins and losses. And I think they’re finding out in San Antonio that he may not be the right fit for what they want to do. If I know Popovich like I know him I could very easily see him not in a San Antonio uniform next year."

Uhhh, did I read the boxscore right? It seems like they put Manu’s usual stats under RJ’s name. Except for the “0 turnovers” part, that is. ::confused::
Spurs Basketball. Improving [other] NBA teams since 2010! - swgeek
I like this Cedric kid. Looks hungry for play and win.
Seems like TP injury was the start of domino´s effects, bringing real weird but good things (like play the youngers).
Cedric Jacksons 9 minutes have got to be a record high for a Spurs midseason acquisiton NBDL call up in a first game
Crappy teams fear us !
One of the many reasons why I love Gregg Popovich:
I saw a replay of the Jefferson dunk int he 1st quarter and as everyone on the bench stood up to cheer, Pop was the only one to sit down.
"We'll see how our character is," guard Tony Parker said. "We don't have time to be sad. Nobody cares. It's just us. We're the only ones who can help each other."

Yay blowout.
I was working so missed out on the whole game. Txt’d Google for the score early and we were down 1.
Glad we got the blowout, deep bench minutes, starters rest, etc. Maybe I should stay away from here more often, if that does the trick.
Anyway looking forward to hopefully another win tomorrow.
We need every one of these easy wins we can get before heading into a terrible 9 game stretch starting the 17th. We play 9 games over 14 days, six of them on the road. Three back to backs, including against six top teams.
We will learn a lot from how we do during that stretch, regarding our chances as we head into the playoffs. Then again our schedule for April to end the season is about as bad. Basically at this point every game is huge.
The Cleveland loss that broke our would have been decent streak hurt bad.
Like I said a while ago, we have to continue to win at a rate of 2/3 if we want a chance to get 50 wins and maybe have a decent standing going into the playoffs. Though in all honesty all of the top 4 are looking pretty bad to face in the first round. Maybe Denver, as we have a good history against them, and their coach… But then again they’re a lot better than before, and we’re worse. LA, Dallas, Utah, look ugly.
Back to tonight’s game, I’m happy to see in the box score that RJ did something other than stand around tonight. But we need to see him do this with at least some consistency and against at least some decent teams before my attitude towards him changes.
He – and all of our guys – have plenty of opportunities coming up.
Damn, without that Cleveland loss, we’d be on an 8 game winning streak. No matter, we play the Clippers tonight. I just found out that they acquired the Ducktail-less Wonder!

RJ's shot and Blair's height
A couple of above mentions about RJ’s shooting skills. He’s best when he penetrates to the basket, but he needs a straight line to the hoop to do it. He’s too slow with is weak crossover to create off the dribble. His distance shooting mechanics are horrendous. When he goes up for a shot he seldom gets his elbow high enough to create a decent arc. Thats because when his elbow is up it stops and he ends up throwing the ball using his elbow as an axis. Result—horrible looking line drives. The elbow should stay under the palm of the hand and continue upward as the wrist, hand and fingers create the forward motion. All of the great perimeter shooters have those mechanics down pat. Jefferson never has learned this and as a result his perimeter shots percentages have always been below average. Everytime he takes an outside shot I wince. Once in a while he makes one, but thats because if you practice the wrong way long enough you’ll eventually make one or two, but the consistancy will never be there. Finally, if anybody believes that Blair is actually 6’7" please contact me, I’ve got a bridge that goes to Brooklyn I need to sell.
DeJuan measured 6’5.25" without shoes at the combine, 6’6.5" with shoes. As my dad always says, though, you don’t play the game with the top of your heard. His standing reach was almost the same as Blake Griffin’s.

RJ's postgame comments
When asked by Sean and Bill in the post game interview about playing with Manu again as a starter, RJ replied: " we’re similar style players" and at that point I had to laugh. He went on to explain (and layed out how they really are not similar but very different): “I’m a little bit more of an aggressive attacker while he has the ability to really knock down those off the dribble 3’s and the pick and roll…”
I agree with jimjule’s assessment of RJ’s distance shooting mechanics – the ball goes way behind his head on those shots and he does use his elbow like a sling shot.
Would love to see RJ’s “more…aggressive attack”.
I remember seeing it.. I think… once or twice.
As for “We’re similar style players.” I’m dumbstruck.
Either he’s really bad at communication and this just isn’t what he meant, or he’s even more dumb than I already thought he was.
It’s like his image of himself in his head is some totally different player than what we’ve seen of him every game this entire season, minus one or two.
As for "We’re similar style players." I’m dumbstruck.
I am pretty sure that the intended meaning was that he is playing better with Manu. This is something that many of us noticed this season. While Manu can play with pretty much everyone, certain players benefit a lot from playing with Manu. I would name RJ and Blair, and may be Hill to some extent. Timmeh and Dice seem to play better with Tony at the point.
We should start rebuilding around Durant
