Photos: Manu Flexes Muscles to Keep in Shape for Carrying the Team

Manu's back and shoulders must be tired from carrying the team for two games in a row.

"I know - PTR believes I have no swagger, but just once, let me remind you: I AM the leader of this team right now."

There are times when Manu cannot understand why his teammates don't have his same competitive desire.  Here he engages in an intense discussion with Matt Bonner about the way to play defense.

This shot is a little out of focus, and it did not go in, but it is so vintage Manu that I had to include it.  I also needed to meet the 75 word minimum requirement for a Fanpost.  Whatever happened to the expression that a picture is worth a thousand words?

Janie—the photos are great as usual, but sometimes the captions are even better. Keep them coming.

Great photos Janie! What settings do you use on your camera (high ISO and no flash perhaps)? I’m just wondering how you get such great shots as the SBC Centre does not allow fans to take DSLRs into the game.

I have a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS, a wonderful little digital camera with a 10X optical zoom. It also has a 2″ × 2 1/2" LCD viewfinder screen. I set it to shoot at 1600 ISO for the action shots (lower if I’m shooting guys sitting on the bench, if I remember!). A flash would do no good anyway as the subjects are too distant. I also set the white balance for flourescent lighting. The camera does the rest. Shooting at 1600 ISO means I get some “noise” or graininess in the photos, but some of that can be taken out by editing on the computer to lower the brightness and increase the contrast. Also, shooting at 1600 ISO means I can’t hold down the shutter button and take several shots in sequence of a play – I have just one shot to capture the exact moment. It’s taken a lot of practice, and means holding the shutter button half way down to focus the lens, and shooting at the right moment. I can point it at the goal, watch the action without looking at the viewfinder, and anticipate when to “shoot.” I enjoy the challenge!
