Blanchard Analyses Hairston's and Mahinmi's play
Very interesting analysis of the play by play of Hairston and Mahinmi in the Houston game. What I find most surprising is Mahinmi's ability to defend the p&r. Its a clear weakness so far for us. Im starting to think the Spurs are hesitant to play him more because they dont want to increase his value for this year's free agency.

Thanks for the link. I don’t really share your conclusion though. Yawn is decent in some ways, but still seems to have a way to go overall. I do beleive that Spurs would play him more if they thought he would help win games and doubt that they would hold him out just to keep his value down. It’s not like he is the second coming of Tim Duncan and they want to lock him up for cheap.
I agree that the Spurs would not sit someone just to decrease the players value and then resign him next year. Pop & co. are going to put out the best lineups they see fit.
I think there is too much focus on Yawns deficiencies. We could point out mistakes Blair makes every game too. Let the young guns play, let them mess up, let them develop. If by play off time Pop doesn’t think they’re ready then fine. Give em a shot during the regular season though.

Yes and no. Players develop in practice, not games. They play when they are ready. Problem is that almost all of our games have been too close and there has not been enough garbage time to let the deep end of the bench get more game minutes. The few times I have seen Yawn he just has not looked ready for prime-time.
That said, yes there have been times when the normal bigs just have not gotten it done and it would have been nice to have given up on the game and see what Yawn could do.
