How should the draft go?
Since this season hasn't gone very well so far I thought I would look ahead. Haven't watched a lot of college ball so I wanted to know what you guys thought of this year's prospects.
DraftExpress.com has us at pick 20 with Quincy Pondexer. Again, haven't watched much college ball so...I don't know if this is a good pick. Should the Spurs keep their pick or try to trade to get a higher pick? Also, in the event they do trade for a higher pick, do they draft the best player or draft based on team needs? Tim C. had a poll about the Spurs biggest offseason need where most thought that a center was the biggest need. Do we draft a center or do we just takes what's there. Just wanted to get you guys' opinions.

Last option. But it might also depend on what kind of indication the Spurs get from Tiago and his agent as to their plans.

Agreed. I usually always say best player available, but if it seems like Tiago has designs on staying in Europe, Center is something we need to address.

Even if the only Center available is like Ian and we have to wait 4 years for him to play good?

Well we have a young wing in Hairiston and no one outside the lottery is going to be as good as him. We have Blair at the 4. I don’t think we could really use another PG (though I really like Kailin(sp?) Lucas). So, yes. If Tiago doesn’t come over then we should draft a center.

Also, the MLE is still available, and there are plenty of centers on the market this offseason.

Haywood seems to be the only good one out there, unless I’m missing someone

Yeah, I’d like a Pondexer jersey!

Greivis Vasquez is someone I really like though he’s kinda plateu’d after break through soph and junior years.
If we get lucky again and Stanley Robinson drops to us then I’d love to get him.
And didn’t even see him in the mock draft but Kim English has a gorgeous jump shot and plays very good defense (i think thats a prereq for playing under mike anderson) but he’s really skinny. I think he’s only a sophmore so his body will fill out some more.

Personally, I’d like to see us draft a defensive minded big guy, someone who’s also a good rebounder. I really like Ekpe Udoh from Baylor. He’s a hustle guy who loves to play defense and has legitimate size. Plus, he has a really cool name.
YES! Yes, yes yes.
With his outstanding length, good size and solid athleticism, Udoh has all the tools necessary to be a very valuable contributor on the NBA level as both a defender and rebounder…
…He’s getting strong reviews off the court as well from people close to the Baylor program. Head coach Scott Drew told us he’s "a class act and a winner," via email and raved about how he "does so many little things on and off the court that go unnoticed."
Sounds good to me.
On the downside, he’s only made 42% of his free throws on the season…
Don’t tell me this guy isn’t a Spur.
I like his profile but at 6’10’’ doesn’t give much size against the Lakers 7 footers of the league.

Plus he’s a projected lottery talent and I doubt he’s missing his ACLs

LETS ASK CURTIS JERRELS ABOUT HIM…HMMMMM….
OK PEOPLE WHY NOT LETS COVER PONDEXTER,WILLE WARREN AND UDOH..HAH?!!!CAN WE HAVE THAT MORE RESEARCH ABOUT THEM…?I MEAN JUNE IS FAR BUT HEY….WHEN U THINK ABOUT IT YOU’LL GET IT AND TIME FLIES…

So no one thinks the Spurs should try to get a higher pick? Or perhaps an additional one?

I’m all about getting more draft picks at this point. We all know how old and brittle the big 3 have looked the last 2 years.
::secretly hopes that Tony gets traded for a decent PG and a pick::

i love draft express and they are usually spot on with there info on players. this draft i think isnt going to be that great so maybe draft a guy from overseas and stash him there until he is ready. Hopefully Splitter will come to the NBA and be half as decent as he is in Europe

plus we might be able to flip Jefferson’s expiring deal for something good

This guy is just plain out amazing
we should trade our pick and maybe a player or two to move up for Hassan Whiteside. Hes an amazing shot-blocker and great finisher around the rim

Just what we need. Another undersized PF. And don’t get my wrong, Blair was the RIGHT decision if there ever was one but cmon…

when has draftexpress (or for that matter anyone) been correct about what the spurs will do in the draft?

Maybe teams red flag him for having cooties 0.o

He has cooties? Hell no, I’d rather have Spanoulis

Now DE has us picking Willie Warren. I don’t know why think we’d want a guy whose upside is Ben Gordon.
I’d rather have Pondexter, since they describe him as being pretty defense-minded.

GOL, yeah, maybe. Something tells me it won’t catch on, but you’re free to call him that, of course.

Yeah. I don’t know much about college players, but the fact that he’s a Sooner makes me gag.

what should we do to lure minnesota?or new jersey? minnesota…hmmm bogans and mahinmi/hairston…
or mason for that number 2…but i won’t go for it..we may end up like what minnesota ended up this year..but spurs fo’s are the best so i guess they would make better decisions..but even if they draft the best player if he turned out to be a bust we might want to have who we traded for the pick back…
cousins, favors?or aminu, watched him on tv.but his a higher pick so i guess…pondexter ,charles garcia(but his potential is questionable plus his school is not one of the best..IMO…they lost in a game where they only scored(the team)only 16 points and their opp 50+pts.And i guess willie warren might do too…but i would rather go for pndexter…his a defensive guy with offensive ability..idk in the nba but if we put that he can replace fin in the offense…and if he can defend well he might be a step lower than bowen.
