Ratliff to Bobcats - Woj
Wojnarowski reports that the Spurs have traded Theo Ratliff to the Bobcats.
The San Antonio Spurs have traded center Theo Ratliff(notes) to the Charlotte Bobcats in a salary-cap dump, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Ratliff was making the league minimum $1.3 million, which lessens the Spurs’ luxury-tax bill.
The Bobcats sent San Antonio a top-55 protected 2016 second-round pick(so, almost guaranteed to be nothing)

So Charlotte has a ridiculous number of shot-blockers now. Salary dump = all-in.
Don't compare RJ to Sean unless he's coming up clutch while playing with a failing kidney.
Larry Brown is in love with Big Ball. Pop… will take whatever he can get.

Pop is on the phone with Snyder right no, telling him to bench Jones for the rest of the season.

As much as this season sucks, I’m really liking our chances next season. However, I’m assuming a couple of things occur:
- We sign Splitter, giving us the big man we’ve been lacking this season.
- Hill and Blair will be a year older
- RJ’s crazy expiring contract should give us a quality player to get back after some team’s new 2010 plans backfire.
*Hairston will replace Finley in the rotation - We’ll all be more comfortable with Yawn getting 0 minutes and won’t be surprised by it.
- SpurNando, meaning the return of the band with the hot chick that WV posted

Pop seems to be building a nice playoff team, now if only he could stop working for Larry Brown and help the Spurs.
GTFOML!
DING! DING! DING!
The Spurs fans and Front Office better wake up, we are about the be the losing est potential champion of the NBA.
I’m sure the FO tried to help the team, despite not coming away with a beneficial trade, it’s not to say they didn’t try, just that they didn’t find anything that they deemed would help the team without giving up on the future of the franchise as well.
It sucks that we couldn’t get anything done, but to think that the front office is intentionally trying to not help this team is a bit farfetched.

Getting rid of Theo is helping? Letting Haislip go is help?
With all the mismatches we have to deal with in the west.
Making moves like this, maybe they should stop helping.
How is getting rid of Theo hurting? He hasn’t played in half the games and had he, he’d likely be out injured for the next 4-6 weeks while still pushing the team further over the luxary tax.
There’s a better chance that RJ comes around and becomes the player we all wanted than Theo being any sort of missing ingredient to a playoff run.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
haislip was a bad pick up in the first place. never should have spent the time/effort/money on him even though it wasnt that much. he didnt have a strong track record and was a gamble at best. his parting means nothing. ratliff’s parting means a little more, but still not earth-shattering in any way. business move.
NOOOOOO!!!!!! Not the Youngevity! We just increased our average age by 10 years =(

I say use that pick to draft one of Manu’s twins. By that time, they’ll be better than at least 50% of the players in the league.

read edit above.

=/
I thought we were joking about that. Well, we basically traded Theo for a pack of Youngevity bottles.

Ummm, unless Charlotte is one of the top 5 teams in the league in 2016(GOL, but you never know), there is no draft pick. It’s top-55 protected.

in fairness to SpurredOn, he said minute.

This is good, I think it will help the FO and ownership save some cash for resigning Manu and getting Splitter here. I have not problems with this at all.

someone on another thread posted that we were getting augustin and I was a hair’s breadth from ordering his jersey online….i think someone deleted that post though as obviously it was all lies to hurt me……
Tony with DJ as his backup and permanently moving Hill to SG behind Manu but still starting…..damn that would have been slick….
why didn’t we trade mason instead of ratliff for the the draft pick or whatever? he wanted to leave and would have saved us way more money….
Ratliff for a pick? (even if its a secound rounder) ME FUCKIN LIKES, our last second round pick was Dejuan Blair
"Rock and Roll angels bring that HardRock Hallelujah"
maybe we can get a taller dejuan blair, or a manu-like guard?
If you liked it then you should have put a 5th ring on it. Oh oh oh.
Tony Duncan

It seems we got a second rounder for Theo. Pop and RC are out trying to convince some lottery talent to have knee surgery as we speak.
GTFOML!
Haven’t you heard? ACL removal surgery is in this year.
Don't compare RJ to Sean unless he's coming up clutch while playing with a failing kidney.
What was in last year? Arm elongation surgery?
What about next year? It would be funny if Manu opts for hair transplants and ends up with the unfortunate (but still funny) GVH disease. Of course, it will be much better than him getting TBA.
GTFOML!

i hate trading him away…but if letting go of theo means more time for ian then its fine!
and i guess if we would have traded fin and bonner to chi for thomas or salmons then mase would have more time!
a productive one!
plus i think rj should be benched and that roger should be the starting sg or hill then keith as sf…
IMO!
:)
Are you sure it was a draft pick, are you sure it wasn't...NOTHING!!!!!
This trade is a joke. I don’t understand why we would agree to the top 55 protection on the draft, I mean, it’s a second round pick for 6 years from now, it’s essentially nothing to begin with other than taking a flyer that Charlotte will be a contender and you can get a higher pick. Now this trade is just literally giving him away for nothing. And we all knew when Theo was signed that he wouldn’t do much in the regular season, but he could’ve been a crucial part of a playoff run by being this year’s Kevin Willis and providing key minutes of protecting the paint against all the massive front courts we will see in the West when Timmy was on the bench. This trade is basically the front office announcing that there won’t be a playoff run, and thus no need to keep a key role playing specialist. They waved the white flag on the season and gave the middle finger to the fans in one fell swoop. And don’t think the players themselves didn’t get the message either. Typical Spurs front office thinking, too clever by half where they miss out on key players to save a nickel and dime by replacing Speedy Claxton with Udrih and JV, failing to resign Stephen Jackson, or trading away Scola because, you, know, Splitter could be even better when he shows up four years later, but hey, at least we got Matt Bonner around to shoot 3 pointers and eat sandwiches. I can’t believe this is the year I decided to go all in and get League Pass. Thanks for nothing Pop, I hope your kids celebrate this incredible move by having a giant party where they exclusively serve wine spritzers made from your private collection.

Don’t tell him to do that! It’s my claim to fame, and he’s like the last person to still use it.

I’m not upset with you specifically, and I’m not saying that you shouldn’t express your feelings. It’s fine, you can.
I just needed to do the same.

The Draft Pick means nothing
The reason we undervalue draft picks is because we alway either send them overseas, they stay overseas, they are stuck in D-League where we hear great things but we never truly reap the benefits because either they’re traded or glued to the bench never to truly shine and be groomed on an NBA level like other teams do with their talents. Oh yeah, sure you could mention Dejuan Blair and George Hill but face it they got rare opportunities that few in a spurs uni as a rookie get and that minute on the NBA level to get that college state of mind out the window, let all the jitters go and grow up with big boys so what makes you so sure pop would change and just hand the keys to what was a fine tuned machine to a bunch of freshly picked draft picks? Where not talking once in a lifetime picks like a Tim Duncan a Kobe Bryant or even a Shaq, it would be some nice player but not transcendent to the sport or a franchise John Wall possibly but I guess you can dream can’t you. I will just hope the best for my spurs even though the FO makes it harder to do with more and more questionable mistakes detrimental to the team.
Pop plays you if you can play. Besides Blair and Hill see Manu and Parker. They are all late first round or second round picks. It is just difficult to get quality talent late in the draft. I think if any part of the FO moves have been unquestionably successful is the draft in the past ten years.
