You're a Sly One, Popovich

Chop by Hirschof, Pop by Josh Frankel
You're a sly one, Popovich,
With every draft day steal.
You're sneaky with that waiver wire, you're slippery as an eel, Popovich,
You're a scary mamba jamba with the deadly Gary Neal!
You're a plotter, Popovich,
Your interviews are droll,
Your brain is full of scheming, you've got winning in your soul, Popovich,
Teams couldn't beat your defense with a six-and-a-half foot goal!
You're a wily one, Popovich,
You grimace instead of smile,
Yet you have this hidden sweetness despite your constant guile, Popovich,
Given the choice between you and other coaches, I'll take the clenched tooth smile!
You're a strange one, Popovich,
Your teams always debunk,
Your roster's full of washed-up jocks, your offense now has dunks, Popovich,
The three words you use for wins are as follows, and I quote, "Stink, Stank, Stunk!"
The Spurs are rotters, Popovich,
They steal oppenents' playoff spots,
Their boring brand of basketball makes the whole league want to plotz, Popovich,
This team is an old slow-moving heap overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment of floppers imaginable, tangling Phil Jackson up in knots!
You nauseate Stern, Popovich,
With a nauseous super "naus",
You're not a crooked head honcho and you're much the better boss, Popovich,
You're a gourmet ice cream sundae with Bailey's and raspberry chocolate sauce!

While I was mixing this audio together, I couldn’t help but think of that Blazersedge review of us. I mean what other site makes over the top christmas songs about their coach? come on!

That’s funny, Josh.
I also was thinking about timba while putting my part together. It’s probably not the kind of thing he’s looking for when deciding the quality of a blog, and I’m guessing that any Spurs fans who have his particular tastes in blogs probably don’t number PtR among their faves. But I’m glad that there ARE enough people who share our appreciation for off-the-wall stuff for us to have a community even though we’re not set up in quite the way he’d prefer us to be.
Merry Christmas, PtR. You guys rock.

excellent.
I’m in this song… and hate Xmas… so its one of my favorites.

Can we put this on the Featured Stories or another good place so easy to get later on.

This post, and all of the fun posts like it that we do, are filed in the Off the Wall Section of PtR. You can get there by going to the main page, looking to the far left of the screen and just under the “Fan Confidence Poll” you’ll see the Section box organized alphabetically. That’s where awesome posts like Yes, SiMA, there is a Manu Claus can be found after they drop off the front page.
Or you could just bookmark the main Off the Wall page, for ease of use. =]

Also, where are the lyrics posted to “Here Comes Manu Claus”? I looked through the Off the Wall section and couldnt find it…
Bonner with the nice box out!
Here Comes Manu Claus does not yet have its own page, but that should be posted by noon tomorrow. In the meanwhile, here is the comment Hirshof originally posted with those terrific new lyrics. Now, I don’t know if I will be singing that one as well, but I suppose I’m up for it if Josh is.
Also, if you just can’t get enough of Cap’s awesome rewrites (and I know I can’t) then you should also go here for “Twas the Night before Playoffs.”

Also, how could I forget Yes, Sima, there is a Manu Claus. I know it was only posted 10 days ago, but it never hurts to be sure that everyone’s seen it.

Yeah. I showed Mom that too. She thought it was clever.
I dont think she understands my obsession with the Spurs and PtR…

The truly fanatic will rarely, if ever, be understood by those who don’t share their fervor.
I’m still being amused thinking of your mom walking into the room all excited about Christmas music — even if it was “You’re a mean one…” and then hearing references to Popovich instead of Mr. Grinch.
That’s just the most hilarious mental image to me. Thanks so much for sharing about it. Cracks me up.

That’s nice too, but having vocals and artwork along with awesome words takes this to another level altogether. Great voice btw – have you been in a band?
Lauri: thank goodness I have you magnificent bastards to waste [the offseason] with.

This is fucking amazing. The Spurs organization has to find this somehow, a gem like this cannot stay hidden in a blog that doesn’t even get a star.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.

Thanks, bro. Too bad I couldn’t stay on pitch for the whole thing.

Thanks to everyone for the compliments. We all had a blast putting it together, and it of course makes it even better when you guys enjoy it, as you evidently have.
Merry Christmas.

Words cannot describe this masterpiece. Bravo, Josh, Nancy and Dale (awesome voice, by the way)!
And a late Merry Christmas to everyone!
