Matt Bonner Gets New Shoe Deal
... Not! Remember the Grizzlies game when he blew out his shoe? This is gold:
"I’ve been hoping Converse would come through with a shoe deal, but they haven’t, so I just kind of wear whatever. I’ve been wearing Converse and throwing in some New Balance, but they did not come through for me tonight."
Venture into the comments section if you dare, since there's a lot of Bonner hate. But really, Matt. This is just hee-larious.
Comments
Some of the comments there are over the top… maybe it’s a Nuggets fan still smarting over the last week’s loss at home?
I’ve posted this elsewhere, but this FS is probably the most appropriate place to put it…. I think one of the other shoe companies could get a viral YouTube thing going at relatively low cost One in which Bonner can poke fun at the exploded shoe, the whole situation, and even himself. Something like:
[Opening shot, Matt wearing basketball uniform, on a gym court, holding his exploded shoe, hand covering NB logo]
Matt: I know I’m not a big star like Kobe or Carmelo, but good shoes are important to me in my work too.
[cut to NBA video of Matt’s shoe as it explodes in the game]
Matt voice-over: So when my shoe blew up in a close game recently, I knew I had to find something better. Something strong.
[cut back to Matt, now holding his new shoe]
Matt: Something reliable. And I found these.
[cut to shoes on display. They are perhaps the ugliest pair of basketball sneakers ever made.]
Matt voice-over: The (name of shoe). They’re not flashy or anything, but the good people at (name of shoe company) have promised me that they’ll last over the long NBA season… even beyond.
[cut back to Matt, now preparing to shoot a basketball]
Matt: Best of all, they give me the lift I need to do my job.
[Quick cut or zoom back to show Matt shooting ball from behind the 3 point line. Clank]

Yes, I know a real commercial would end with a swish but I thought it would be funnier (and better suit the self-deprecating tone of the piece) if his shot rimmed out.
I think Matty’s agent should get right on this. :)
They're not your pop's Spurs... they're Pop's Spurs 2.0!!!
Mike Monroe: ...the uninformed presume Parker is expendable.

FreshmakerDTM posted the link to this story a day or so ago, and I loved the comment from SpursfanSteve:
I don’t think corporations understand the awkward man love Bonner gets…
I have flying monkeys at my disposal, and I'm not afraid to use them.
My first FanShot double post. ::sigh::
