I expect both VC and Pietrus to play well with Nash, and Gortat will give them some toughness inside, which they were missing tonight. Not like they are going to beat the Lakers, but they’ll be dangerous for everyone else in the 1st round.
"Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."
Yeah. Gortat gives them something Amare didnt- Defense.

The Suns could be the low seed that this season that no team really wants to meet in the playoffs. I’d like for them to be some other team’s 1st round problem, but I could well imagine that the Spurs meet them as a 7- or an 8-seed.

Isn’t that the case every year in the WC? Nuggets in ‘05. Kings in ’06. Suns in ’08. Thunder in ’10. None of them advanced. Strange that the one huge upset in that time frame, Golden State, wasn’t predicted to win.
Thank you SF Giants for an incredible 2010 season and painting the City orange & black!
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
I vow to never mention "playoffs" and "49ers" together again until we have a "quarterback."
Also the 7th-seeded Spurs in ‘10, in case you forgot :) (not likely). Of course, in San Antonio’s case, they advanced.
Golden State was an 8-seed when they upset the Mavs. Only crazy people predict an 8 beating a 1 in a 7-game series. :)
All I’m saying is that, if the trade works out for Phoenix and their team gels in the final months of the regular season, the Suns could be a better team than their record will indicate, going into the playoffs. Maybe not good enough to upset a 1- or a 2-seed, but a tougher draw than the 5- or 6-seed.

Hmmm… I missed that too (and the first half of the fourth). given that the Suns outscored the Spurs in the 4th and the win was by 9 or 10, I’m guessing they really stormed out of the locker room to take control of the game.

It was the best Q of the game. The only one that wasn’t painful to watch except for Dragic’s 3 at the buzzer. Gary Neal totally dominated 3rd quarter and brought us the victory. May be if he was with the team last year, we’d play the Lakers in the Western Finals.
"Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."
Thank you for the correction. After last playoffs I hate Dragic with passion. Can we give somebody like Jerome James a 10-day contract in an appropriate time, so that he could fall on Dragic and squish him like a bug?

Quick thoughts:
- First red flag was the Suns shooting 58% last night but only winning by 3. Tonight it’s 54% and losing by 8. They shoot well at the expense of better rebounding and defending players.
- I like Gentry. He continues to show that he’s top 5 in this league at designing plays out of timeouts.
- I won’t say that overall awful defense caused the excellent Suns shooting, as they are talented and that it what they do. But some of the late mistakes, like Bonner leaving open Nash, or inside of a minute and we leave Grant Hill wide open, were not good to see. Our focus seemed to be lacking for long stretches tonight.
- How maddening was it that we couldn’t break the 20-point lead because Blair was getting too impatient?! I’d rather he have tried one his set shot jumpers.
Good win against a frisky team that no longer makes excuses about their circumstances (since Gentry became HC).
Thank you SF Giants for an incredible 2010 season and painting the City orange & black!

As an offense they have boundless energy. But it shows on the other end, especially rebounding. Nash never tires and his mates follow his lead.

Just to be contrary (and ridiculous), I’m gonna say Quinn won the game. Quinn In = WIN
That, and his team-leading +19 in the all-important ± statistic. ;D

this is not ridiculous. Quinn was very good 2nite. I still think that Gary Neal won the game though, if we need to single someone out.
"Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."
Sorry if it sounded like I was saying Quinn didn’t play well. He did. Just don’t think he won the game, despite his +19.
And…. usually, I don’t like to say any one player wins a game. It should be (and usually is, for the Spurs) the culmination and result of the team playing well together.

result of the team playing well together
Of course. Saying that someone won the game is just a figure of speech to praise someone’s contribution to the team’s success. Neal and Quinn were two guys who impressed me tonight.

happy holidays everyone.
Yes. But he really shouldn’t be shooting as many as nine threes in a game unless they’re all open looks. And you’d think that he’d figure out at some point that they’re just not going to fall for him this game and try to do something else.

he did… that was the prob, nash’d set him up and then He’d pass it up. not to take away from spurs D but this caused at least 3 shot clock violatons. I still like his ever developing but when nash sets the table you EAT.
happy holidays everyone.
His early 3s seemed forced. Appropriately they were missed which seem to destroy his confidence for the remainder of the game. I recall last season that Frye seemed to be a momentum shooter who could be streaky and shot much better at home.

Yea, but you guys were not actually in a position to win. I am merely an ingrate who is unhappy the Spurs didnt win by 20 or more.

I think, only the Suns became noticeably better because of the trades. For Orlando and Washington this is more like addition by subtraction, which may or may not work.
"Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."
I dunno. The move ‘could’ be good for the Magic, if Turkoglu’s woes in Toronto and Phoenix were due to playing without Howard, outside SVG’s system. But if he’s lost a step, and if J.Rich and Arenas don’t integrate well into the offense, it could be an unmitigated disaster. It certainly feels like an ‘all-in’ bet with cards they have good pot odds on, but isn’t a ‘nut’ hand. They could lose it all… and lose another year retooling to get back into the Finals.

I agree. And I think that Orlando gave up more than they got back. But it may work for them, if Turk and Arenas use the opportunity to revive their careers. I won’t put my money on that, but I’d gladly put DeVos’s money to see, how this would turn out for them.
"Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."
For Orlando, this was all about finding ways to penetrate Boston’s defense. They did it two years ago with Hedo (and no Nelson) but last year could not get any easy shots.

Kevin Garnett was injured, and it still took the Magic 7 games to beat them.

Yeah but they didn’t have Nelson. Yet were far better than Boston in that series. Boston had a buzzer beater win and a huge come from behind win. They depended on VC to do what Hedo but he disappeared.

I was initially a turk hater, but I came around about him. no doubt he didn’t work out in PHX but it wasn’t for lack of effort. good luck Turk….Boll. JRich for VC’s corpse is a HUGE up grade for Orlando him along with turk Improves their inside out game (their favorite) and earl clarks potential is sky high. unfortunately when he’s on the court he looks and plays like he’s high. from the Suns perspective this is all about gortat…peaches is nice too but he doesn’t fill any holes.
happy holidays everyone.
And for whatever reason, unless there’s a championship at stake, the Miami Heat simply cannot beat the Mavericks.
ha!
