I;m more interested in a Cavs game than NFL game on Thursday. Not something I expected this season. Best of luck in turning the various emotions into a great home victory.

I dunno, I have a notion this was the " Screw it, this is our second straight game, we are tired but still on top of the standings" game.
But it still doesnt explain what is wrong with Parker.

I can see that, but wouldn’t that have lead to some kind of an cameo from Chris Quinn?

This quote from J.A. Adande said it best:
When Tony Parker only plays 18 minutes and the Clippers beat the Spurs for the first time in 19 games, that’s Hollywood happening, not NBA normalcy.
Tony is human, going through a relationship problem during the holidays. I wondered if after his initial spurt of great play when this all went public if he might regress. You can only run on “F-it” mode for so long before you deal with home stuff. That he was in LA and spotted with Eva earlier in the day tells me his head has to be distracted right now. Too bad since his numbers vs LAC this season were strong and a typical night out of him would’ve saved the game despite poor play from the rest of the team.
Thank you SF Giants for an incredible 2010 season and painting the City orange & black!

UGLY ASS GAME
this game was frustrating to watch because we could’ve and should’ve won it!!!!!!
One thing i can do...................is FINGER ROLL.
Manu played for 34 minutes. Matt played for 29 minutes. Not good.

I really don’t get Pop. Bonner’s practically useless if he’s shooting cold.

I get the “shooters keep on shooting” thing, but I would’ve preferred Tiago’s or Dice’s defense there. Just perplexing, really.

Me neither, but I’m guessing Pop expected a comeback to include 3s so he kept Bonner in, plus hoping to spread out the D in hopes that we could get to the rim so nothing from outside (or inside as it turned out) would go in.

i dont care about them losing. i care more about this team adjusting on a lowly clippers and stealing a win on their court..
They obviously didn’t have it in their tank. But other teams losing is important because standings matter. Their extra losses now can make the difference just like every game the Spurs win can make the difference.
I don’t know, I love that the Spurs are currently on top of everybody else, but I still don’t want to focus that much with the standings.

As a fan, I care more about how they are actually playing. However, this game wouldn’t prove much as we’ve seen what the Spurs can do and where they need to improve.
Are they improving? yes. The key is it continues. One game isn’t going to decide that though. Their next games vs. +.500 teams will be more indicative of the improvement than a game like this. I wish they would win this, because they had open shots.
What’s the other important thing? Standings. Spurs vs. Lakers @ SA is what they’ll need if they match up in the post season.
We don’t steal from the Clippers we take and they like it. Tonight we generously gave it to them in the 2nd Q and they obliged, while bumbling through 19 turnovers. I actually think the Spurs adjusted in the 2nd half as the LAC shooting percentage went down. It was more that SA couldn’t clear their defensive boards in the first half and couldn’t make a shot all game. I mean, Manu missed two FTs. You know it’s a weird night, as it should be when you lose to a team for the first time in nineteen games.

i dont reallt get it. if guys are not shooting well on the outside, why not set a play for the players to penetrate the basket and draw some fouls…
I understand having a bad shooting night. I understand being flat the second night of a back-to-back. Okay. What I don’t understand is having both Duncan and Ginobilli on the floor for so many minutes. Particularly the last couple of minutes when the game was in hand. This makes little sense to me.

….interesting take. He may very well be in the process of “making up” with Eva. This would explain a hell of alot.

Wow, what a stinker of a game. Here is one telltale sign: the Clippers shoot 49% from the field… and score 90 points. That’s pretty amazing.

Well… just think of this as another CIA ploy to go under the radar and give other teams false hope.

Some reporter likely asked Pop before the game how long the Spurs might keep their winning streak against the Clippers going. That might have been followed by a 2nd reporter congratulating Pop for being Coach of the Month and asking if he was looking forward to being the Western Coach in the All-Star Game.

That’d be enough right there for him to play the bench the entire game. The wonder isn’t that we lost, it’s that the starters played as much as they did.
RJ2.0: vive la différence.
I think Pop was in punishment mode. Last season he would’ve sat TD after seeing how lethargic he was. He would’ve gone with the non-scoring bench options in the 4th Q and we’d have all asked why was Pop throwing in the towel; it’s not like we can’t come back against this team and every game in important.
I think tonight Pop decided: “hey, you guys said the early season games where important yet you come out and rotate that piss-poor on defense? Get back out there till you get it right. Every game matters right?” Well, that’s my take on it.
I also wonder if by taking TD and Manu out earlier it would have sent the message that we only lost because our main guys played little minutes, instead of the truth which is that we lost because our rebounding was lazy, rotations slow, and shot selection inpatient in the second half.

While I’d like to see Tiago getting more minutes, tonight was not one of his better games. His only rebound and basket came on an air ball by Manu that the announcers were wondering if Manu meant it as a pass or not. In 7min27sec, he was called for 3 shooting fouls that led to 6 FT’s (fortunately a number missed), and he was shooting FT’s poorly when he drew fouls. At least one of the two other shots he attempted looked terrible. He has played better and should play better again, but he wasn’t looking that good this game.
Bonner Bonner Bonner, can’t you see. Sometimes your footwork just hypnotize me.
And I just love your mechanical ways; I guess that’s why your footlong has extra mayonaise.

Tony Parker spent a couple of hours this afternoon having lunch with his estranged wife, actress Eva Longoria.
People Magazine reported that Parker and Longoria were spotted at a Los Angeles-area hotel having lunch a few hours before the Spurs’ game tonight against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Link
Oye. Maybe Parker’s mind is drifting now that the media has moved on slightly….
Dude, if anyone’s ever been through anything like what Parker’s going through, it’s enough to hurt your play without a doubt.
RJ2.0: vive la différence.
All kidding aside, I hope the divorce is what is ailing Parker as opposed to an undisclosed injury. I hope things work out for both of them, divorce or not.
[ "Duncan, the Spurs' 34-year-old captain, was aghast when Splitter told him he used to watch him as a kid."]
"I didn't enjoy that at all," Duncan said
I don’t think it’s an injury because his defense has not fallen off. He’s still getting in the passing lane and doing as well as he normally does. He’s also moving the ball well and getting assists. He seems less aggressive in taking his jumper and not doing as well in setting his feet from his spots on the floor. When he drives to the hoop, as in the GSW game, he seems to be forcing shots into people hoping to be bailed out with a foul. I think his focus, understandably, is off.
Thank you SF Giants for an incredible 2010 season and painting the City orange & black!

I just read this was the Spurs third game in four nights ( aka “Thigafoni”)
But it still doesnt explain Tonys horrible play the last games.

"I didn't enjoy that at all," Duncan said
Just got back from the game. From the beginning(pre-game warm up), I felt the Spurs weren’t into it. Parker wasn’t even keen on warm up, he was just standing around watching people go about their business around him. Our guys were missing bunch of shots and looked tired.
- During the game, I think 2nd half, Manu was livid on GHill for quite a few mental errors and missing wide open players.
- It felt like calls on Splitter were ridiculous. He was disappointed, needless to say.
- Neal played well and deserved more minutes
- Parker was MIA and was deferring a lot while on court and when he was riding the pine, it felt like he was mentally checked out. From beginning till end, he wasn’t communicating with anyone that well. I wonder if the team chemistry is messed up after his personal problem(s) surfaced
- Bonner couldn’t throw a stone into the ocean tonight.
And oh yeah, Griffin is going to be very special. He is a monster.
-
-
Keep the faith!!
People over the years were tough on Parker, especially for his passing. Hill makes Parker look like John Stockon.
There have been a few times this season where Hill completely missed alley oop opportunities with RJ. Actually he tried to do one in this game but threw the ball crazy. I guess I should give him credit for trying…
So, the Spurs lost, to the Clippers. Fudge! Here are some observations I made while working my nalgas off at the gym.
1. A lot of missed jump shots. Looked like tired legs from the B2B.
2. What eez up with Tony? He looked out of it on the bench and this was his 4th bad game in a row.
3. Violet Palmer does not belong in the NBA. Or the WNBA. Or the YMCA. Or the YWCA. She is turrible.
That is all.
I never take the high road, but I tell other people to, that way there is more room for me on the low road.

Didn’t realize that was Violet, she looks different. I thought it was a new one I’d never seen before. I agree she was terrible. Her blown calls helped us as much as hurt, though.

Glad I stopped watching after the first turnover of the 3rd Q. I knew where this was headed and needed not upset my evening. This was the classic Any Given Night game where the ball is not going to go in for your team, contested or open shot, star or role player. It’s why winning streaks don’t last forever. Historic starts on the road end. And why you can’t beat another team nineteen consecutive times: it will balance out once somewhere along the line. I’ll take one awful performance every nineteen times against an opponent.
I knew we were in trouble when the the NBA studio guy said to Greg Anthony: “I never thought I’d see one NBA team beat another twenty consecutive times,” then GA responds “you will tonight.” Um, it would’ve been nineteen and nothing is guaranteed, especially on a road SEGABABA. It felt a bit too easy and presumptuous.
