DTOUR: PtR Holiday Extrazaganza
So this week has been all about Manu Claus and the presents he's been giving to the basketball world. Transgojobot was able to snap a photo of Manu Claus in his natural element. And then Hirschof transcribed a folk song about the man for us. This got me thinking about the abundant talents often showcased by our merry little band of Spurs fans.
So, let your creative juices flow and share with the community any Spurs-related Christmas (or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or ...) anecdotes, photos, 'chops, songs, videos, etc. Let you Spurs flag fly! MSPaint submittals will be greatly appreciated (ahem, Hipuks).
And since this is a DTOUR, feel free to discuss the weather too. :)

I think it’s the little hearts that make it look girly. And the big heart. Other than that it’s really cool, good job dude.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
Oh, I didn’t do that. I totally stole it from here. I thought it was cool so I posted it and then I realized how girly it was.
not spurs related, but meh…

I’ve been waiting for a DTour so that I could post this funny Maria Sharapova video for Google Search by Voice (on DemoSlam) again. Yay! :)

I liked hers, but the guys using a projection of Google Earth to mimic skydiving cracked me up beyond belief, and I chose them.

Also, I’m watching the Mavs completely take apart the Suns. Dallas is ahead by 24, just before the start of the 4th quarter.

Hey did anyone hear about the bacteria NASA discovered/ the Wikileaks thing/ Michael Vick wanting to adopt another dog/ the tax cut deal/ the weather?
Discuss.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
Heard about it but don’t wanna discuss (although the bacteria is rather intriguing;)

I know that bacteria is a sensitive topic for you, and I will respect your wishes not to discuss it further.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
I assume that you’re talking about the bacteria that NASA found (around Mono Lake, I believe) that they were able to grow in a medium with no phosphorus, or rather, a growth medium that had arsenic instead of phosphorus. (Phosphorus is considered to be one of the six necessary elements for life-as-we-know-it, but arsenic has somewhat similar chemical characteristics.) The idea, I believe, is that other forms of life outside of Earth might exist using arsenic instead of phosphorus as one of the building blocks.

And that’s the reason there’s peer review in science.

Peer review is indeed a wonderful thing and should be exercised early and often. Only good things can come from the use of peer review in all scientific endeavors.
Buddy review, on the other hand, is nothing like peer review at all and doesn’t prove a single thing. Isn’t that right, Professor Jones?

I did hear something about Vick wanted to get a dog (as a pet). Something about it being part of his recovery… is there now a 12-step program from being an inhumane jerk? Anyway, it kinda creeped me out that he wanted to do this; as I’ve mentioned before I have a cute and very sweet year-and-a-half-old puppy. She plays hard (very rough play-wrestling with bigger dogs) but doesn’t have a vicious bone in her body, and doesn’t know what to do when another dog bites at her for real. The thought of Vick getting a dog like her ─ or worse, a dog like the two who bit at her ─ makes me more than a little upset.
I don’t know the full story, but my cynical impression is that it’s more about rehabilitating his image more than rehabilitating himself. If he wants to show the public that he really loves dogs, I think he should get involved with helping dog rescue organizations and shelters instead of getting a pet.

If it was PR, like also believe, it turned out to be pretty crappy PR because there was a huge backlash against his comments.
With the way the Eagles won today though, I imagine people will be throwing him pitbull puppies from the stands. It doesn’t matter how much of a dick you are as long as you win.
I did a lot of soul searching. I didn't find anything.
Well, I didn’t say it was smart PR. And while I doubt that any dog rescue organization would trust him to provide a temporary home for their animals, it would be awesome if one did. If there were one, I’d pitch it as a reality show for the Animal Network (or Nat Geo, if Cesar Milan were willing to get involved).

FYI. Electronic Arts is having a sale on all their games for iPhones and iPads. They’re $.99 instead of $5 or whatever they normally are.
I don’t have either an iPhone or an iPad but the EA deal is nice. NBA 2011 is available, as is Dragon’s Lair. I wonder, should I try to find an iPhone emulator for Windows just so I can play those games? :D

Friday if I were put in the place of the character Chuck Noland, in 2000’s film, Cast Away.
I’m not sure I could operate the life-raft, therefore it would be questionable that I could make it the shore intact at all. Also, when the plane’s engine exploded I most likely would have fainted while trying to open the emergency raft. If the emergency raft did not have some type of water-proof instruction manual, or if I didn’t have access to a phone line and the 1-800 number for the life raft company—and not even that particular company, I believe that any customer service rep from any of the big three raft companies would help in suck circumstances. If I got the reception. If I did not have a cell phone that was still dry, I would drown and be eaten by plankton over a decade’s time.
On the shore line there would be much crying and pounding of the sand by balled up fists and toes. Possibly I would collect my tears in a leaf to save for drinking water at some later date—and then I would realize that tears are basically the same salt content of the ocean. He would be surrounded by an ocean of tears. Who’s tears? I’m not sure, maybe all the fish who have ever existed.
I’m allergic to seafood so I’d of gotten hungry toot-sweet. It gives me hives and cross-eyedness. And how inconvenient it would be that the first time in my life I’d actually throw in with cannibalism there would be no one within a delicious arm’s length.
Instead of a Wilson that I had created to pass away the years on the island, I would have created a small society of tree-men made of twigs and locks of my own body hair to populate a good mile radius. These twig-hair people would have their own economy and their own god who they were always trying to sacrifice me to. Before history judges them too harshly it should be known that my part in the hierarchy is basically a monster who comes in just before dawn to snatch up their twig children and snap them on my knee. I deserve to die. It keeps me going.
Truth be told, I would have never made it off over the island to have my magical whale moment. When the quarter section of that port-a-potty floated in that fateful day, I only set it up to create an actually island themed port a potty (I always felt like the twig people are watching me).

There’s a collection of short stories in Showtime’s YouTube channel that’s worth watching. They’re all good, but here are some that you should watch.

I don’t watch sports news (or much news on the TV at all), so I completely missed the Metrodome roof collapse. Have you seen this? It’s pretty wild. The noise must have been incredible.
