I don’t want to know... no, I do want to know the story behind this pic.
Because I just loooove Extra and People magazine-type stories, don’t let me tell ya different.
Besides, maybe we can feed it to the media so they’ll not notice that the Spurs actually play basketball and the team can stay under the radar for a while longer.
Hey, if posting a sharp, insightful, yet non-sarcastic comment were that easy, even olf would do it.

Seriously? Then I guess I’ll just have to make something up about Tiago having a “Little Red Riding Hood” complex to feed to the media.

Dangit, you got me on my way out the door. :-)
First of all, it wasn’t supposed to be bold. I forgot I can’t use asterisks. Secondly, all year I’ve been following the blog of a guy who’s been reading Harry Potter for the first time, knowing nothing about it, and whenever he wanted to hug a character through the book he would say “Hug on the Astral Plane.”

Interesting. I was just reading about how measures of team performance like SRS are calculated, and it pointed out that fans would rather a team win two games by under ten points than win one by 30 and lose the other by two or three… and that SRS would favor the latter scenario.
But we fans are funny that way…

well, that would be ideal, but our boys in Silver and Black seem to have a knack for making some games harder than they need to be.
Not so much in the past few games though… they’re showing that they can knock a team down, even good ones, and keep them down. You could see it in the faces and body language of the Sixers, Bulls, and Thunder. They couldn’t believe that they lost the lead and/or got behind by so many points so quickly… I could see them thinking “Aren’t these guys supposed to be old and slow?!”
Continue to dominate and demoralize, guys.

Great observation. Definitely a more solid team from top to bottom this year.

+INFINITY on Neal. I thought we were just getting a one-dimensional outside shooter. But he brings it on D, grabs boards, even can pass for dimes. Kudos to him and the F.O.
Still reserving judgement on Green and Quinn, but I like (mostly) what I’ve seen thus far.
Hey, if posting a sharp, insightful, yet non-sarcastic comment were that easy, even olf would do it.

So not to gloat, but I totally called Splitters return tonight in the pregame. Complete with Timmy starting and limited minutes.
Awesome win.10 in a row. Best start EVER. We rule.81-1 the dream lives. Etc. Etc.
On to Orlando!
Ok now I need to stop being that asshole at the party watching basketball on his phone instead of socializing.
Have a great night all!

I beg to differ, Pop wanted to get me all hot and bothered, so he played Tiago nearly 30 minutes like I asked.
[ "Duncan, the Spurs' 34-year-old captain, was aghast when Splitter told him he used to watch him as a kid."]
"I didn't enjoy that at all," Duncan said
Gloat all you want, M3D1T8R!
I didn’t know if Pop would play Splitter significant minutes or not tonight, but I did predict that, if given the opportunity, Tiago would show that he’s ready and prepared to play. I’m glad he didn’t let me down (not that I expected him to, you get a feeling about certain players and how they’ll respond to different situations).
We’re definitely blessed with a lot of talent this year, more than we have minutes, actually. But it’s a problem most coaches would love to have, especially when the players have personalities and egos like the Spurs’ players do. As a fan, it’s really fun to see different players step up in different games, and the team winning in different ways against different teams. That kind of versatility, combined with a coach who knows how to use it, makes for an enjoyable season.

Yes. Enjoyable season for sure.
Splitter not only got to play tonight, he showed us a glimpse of what is to come. Against an average team, sure, but this is how he will get better, more comfortable, to eventually do so great vs the elites as well.
Easy to say on a 10 game win streak in our best start ever, but Pop really knows what he’s doing. I’m convinced some of these games were actually closer than they needed to be – by design. Pop doing enough to get the win, but almost as importantly, getting in as much good learning experience/ practice as possible for those who need it. It’s an interesting balancing act to watch. The fact that we are still coming out on the winning side every time just makes it all the more fun for us fans.
I’m out as well. Great game! Bring on the Magic!

Saw this game, but missed the thread. Very happy with this beat down. Tiago is for real! I think my girlfriend has a crush on him.
This was another weird game imho. Found a feed late, so I didn’t get to start watching until the 2nd quarter. Spurs were up between 4 and 7 points, but they looked like they were playing like they should have been ahead by 10 or even more. Still, I felt confident and posted something to the effect that a small lead was fine and I expected the Spurs to come out and put the game away in the third. CH made the wry (and correct) observation that no one (sane) would have written that last year.
I go off to dinner (and yes, I’ll continue doing that, don’t you worry Queness & CH), and by the time I get back, the Spurs are up 20, late in the 4th quarter? WTF? I missed them tightening the screws on the Cavs, on all the Splitter highlights?
If I hadn’t seen the little bit of the 1st half that I did and only saw the end of the game and the box score, I would’ve thought that the Spurs dominated the game from start to finish. I mean, every Spur — every Spur — had a positive plus-minus. That means that if you calculate the differences in the score from the time each player enters the game to the time he comes out of it, and sum them up for each player, you get a positive number. THAT’s domination, baby.

Just noticed – hours later – that not only did all Spurs players have a positive plus-minus, all Cavs had a negative ones. That goes way beyond simple domination, that’s TOTAL DOMINATION.

Orlando will be another good test for our guys. Howard worked for a few days with Olajuwon this summer. And as much as we Spurs fans feel that our team is being snubbed, I’ll bet you that the Magic’s players are feeling snubbed by all the public attention being given to their down-state rivals.

Howard seems to wind up with 5 fouls in nearly every game, the exception being Phoenix. Perhaps Tiago can draw a few offensive fouls from him to send him to the bench for the majority of the game.

No surprise there, given the Suns’ bigs situation. BSotS was speculating about getting Dampier when it was reported that Houston decided not to go thru and sign him.

Why can’t Pop see that Splitter is so much better than Bonner, especially defensively! I think he is blinded by his love for 3-point shooting big men. I still think Matt should only be used situationally. That is, unless he is having another night like he did against OKC where he can’t miss.
Bonner is shooting 64% from 3. Thats number one on the league, by the way. He’s also making a positive impact on defense. And he spaces the floor. And you are still dissing on him. What does the guy have to do?
Yeah too bad Pop is blinded by his love for doing the right thing to win. 64% from 3, etc. during some key minutes of big games, or unproven Splitter?
I don’t know about you but I kinda like the 10 game winning streak we are on. UU
Wow, meditator, why don’t you tell us how you really feel? =]
Slip, Pop has always played mind games with his rookies. And it’s likely he always will. Splitter will get his minutes, like he did against the Cavs, but they’ll come on Pop’s terms … whatever those are.
The point with intangibles is that no one can see them.
I honestly don’t see what this positive impact on defense is that you are talking about… and yes he is shooting 64% from 3 pt, but he has played only a handful of games and the OKC game is taking that average way up. There are many nights like the Utah game where he goes 0-3 from three and 0-6 overall. I think he had the worst +/- of any Spur that night. I’d rather have Splitter and day.
by slipstream21 on Nov 22, 2010 5:01 PM CST up reply actions
I and just to let you know I don’t hate Bonner, it is just that I like about 9-10 players on our roster better. I actually quite like the option of having Bonner as an option to be used situationally, for example when we need to space the floor more. That said, if Bonner is still shooting 64% come playoff time, or even better 64% in the playoffs, I will be inclined to agree with Pop playing him as much as he does. I believe Splitter is going to be a beast, and the only way he will develop into one is if Pop gives him the playing time. He also won’t be a choker come playoff time like a certain ginger ;).

I missed the game, but how was Danny Green? I noticed the boxscore where he had 2 3pters.
How was his defense? Heard he was a good perimeter defender. I assume he got into the game during garbage time.

How crazy deep is our team? We just let go good talents, players with the makings of being rotation players if given the chance like jerrels, temple, Gee, Hairston, Cousin and our scrubs still wipe the floor against other scrubs. Even the hobbit looks solid.
Meanwhile like 25 teams are scrapping (and failing) to fill holes in their bench.

I think they have ever intention of keeping Cousin at the very least, since Dice isn’t going to play for much longer.
As Alamo pointed out, the Spurs may have to offer Cooz an NBA contract soon, else risk losing him to another team willing to give him one. He’s tearing up the D-League with the Toros.

Reading the SpursNation game chat, Jeff McDonald responded to a ‘complaint’ that the Spurs were shooting (at the time) 60% and only up 10 with:
Look at the flip side. Cavs are shooting 53.1 percent and they’re down 10. Which feels worse?
I’m gonna have to remember that the next time I feel like complaining that the Spurs should be up more given the way they’re playing.

I think another reason why the Spurs were not able to pull away is that the Cavs were able to secure more offensive rebounds.
