DTOUR: Why Not?
It's been over 3 weeks since we've had an official DTOUR thread. That's been waaaaay too long between the sharing of random thoughts. Y'all know how this works: anything is up for discussion, so comment away after the jump.
Just to get LD riled up, apparently South Park is getting sued yet again. Plagiarism or parody? Hmm.
And in case any of you missed it, a rambling entry from Hyperbole and a Half that reminded me of the state of the PtR community last season.

I sure hope not. The Spurs don’t need any attention. Not until LATE in the season (week before playoffs when all of the media says, “OH CRAP THE SPURS ARE GOOD”)

I don’t. They don’t provide any sort of proof. I’ll be sad if it’s true, though. Would Eva still be a Spurs fan?

I’m now thinking that it’s a conspiracy by Lakers fans at TMZ to create a distraction for the Spurs (who moved ahead of the Lakers in the standings after the Suns’ hailstorm barrage). :)
The conspiracy might even go up into the Laker hierarchy…. lots of ways to drop breadcrumbs for TMZ to find through the Lakers’ Tinseltown ties. :P

I’m going to sleep at a girl tomorrow who studies in a city far away (she doesn’t live very far normally though). We had a relationship a year ago, but it didn’t pan out because she just started studying there, and everything was new. I’m hoping for a retry.

Long distance relationships are bad. I have done that a few times and it never worked out well for many different reasons.

I don’t know, seeing each other in the weekends would be alright for me. Make sure all of our jobs are done during the week, and then enjoy each other in those 2 days. I’ve got it all figured out!

Marshall (yes the same company who makes the amplifiers) came out with some SEXY headphones I’m very much considering…

Those are both pretty nice. I have a pair of Audio-Technica M30s that sound great. I bought them on Amazon for $50 a couple years ago, and they’re $40 now. They’re pretty comparable to Marshall’s Major, tech spec-wise, but Marshall’s designs really are sexy. I would probably buy those if I didn’t already have mine and if they’re sold cheaper somewhere else. If I were going to stick with AT, I’d go with the ATH-M50 that are also on Amazon for $108.

I’ve currently got a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro’s. I absolutely love them and it will be hard to find me buying any other headphone brand. I’ll wait for the reviews on the Marshall cans though.

Two weeks from now I will be defending my dissertation (finally). The nerves are starting to go crazy. On other news we will be likely (95% chance) moving to Ithaca, NY. Anybody from the area? Anything (good) we should be looking forward to?

Good luck. have not lived in Ithaca but used to live in NY. Beautiful place in Fall and Spring, and even sometimes in Summer, but winters are evil depressing times. The cold winds just suck the life out of you. But you have high taxes to make up for it.

Not that I support suing parodies, but why would it get me riled up, specifically? In any case, I thought what South Park did with that Inception parody they stole from College Humor was much more of a dick move.

Good question, which I can’t really answer. But for one, I liked 28 Days Later more than Inception. I just meant to say I liked it, but didn’t ‘OMG LOVE IT!’

Well, in less than two weeks I’ll be getting married. I’m actually really excited about the whole thing and having all of our family in town. Along with all the job responsibilities that have been assigned and the possible job promotion, it has been a really hectic time for me.
I’m really looking forward to our honeymoon, we’ll be flying to Tokyo and Hong Kong for a couple of weeks.
Awesome. Congrats, xman and have a fun time in Asia.

Everyone check out Stern on the Colbert Report. Colbert is as hilarious as ever and runs circles around Stern, while Stern doesn’t seem to understand how he ended up on the show in the first place.

Anyone else watch the Spurs play the Bulls tonight on ESPN Classic? Jordan vs. Robinson. What else am I going to do when the boys aren’t playing?
Carr, Cummings, Strickland, Robinson, Elliott =
Blair, Jefferson, Parker, Duncan, Ginobli?

Sorry, this game is classic. Announcer just said, “the players really want Gregg Popovich to take over next season; that remains to be seen.” (Jan 28, 1992. Bob Bass was head coach…forgettable/regrettable). I can’t help but think that Gregg was the one calling these inbounds plays after timeouts because they are converting on all of them.
It’s also amazing watching Robinson block Jordan over and over. I think he has 7 or 8 blocks right now. Damnit I want old Timmeh back!
Anyone want to talk turkey?… turkey recipes, that is?
I usually brine the bird overnight in a sugar & salt solution (so it stays moist), but keeping the darn thing at a safe temperature during brining is a bit of a pain. I’m thinking of trying a ‘dry-brine’ technique I’ve read about… no liquid mess to deal with, and I can apply the salt and herbs directly on the turkey as it defrosts.

Your email was like a forwarded email from heaven
After receiving your forwarded email, I’m writing to you today to let you that you are not alone. I too have had my face melted off by an explosive mug of coffee fresh out of the microwave
Before the incident I would have never questioned pulling out my favorite mug and sticking my nose directly into the liquid right away, not even waiting a moment. But now I do. And now, when I see someone walking by me at the bookstore, their hands filled with a steaming cup of death, I stand up and yell, “Enjoy that with your intact face, facey!” In fact, I scoff the entire bean family.
And how coincidental is it that I am the child who bit into the apple the day after Halloween—like gangbusters, not waiting for the parent inspection of my loot—I garbled down the apple not realizing it was filled with chunks of a razor blade. I’ve never felt whole inside since that day. They say an Apple a day keeps the doctor away, but what they don’t tell you is that one Apple the day after Halloween can keep the intestines in some jar in a lab in Seattle —replaced by something not much more sophisticated than a garden hose.
I also opened up a can of Pepsi once and there was a well preserved rat stuffed in it. I did not realize this till after I drank the entire can of Pepsi. It scarred me for life. PTSD isn’t even a long enough acronym to cover it. Now every time I see a soda related product I get blurred vision and walk in a bow-legged fashion. My therapist said that I should take the rat and make him into a memorial, a memorial that states this has happened to me once and statistically this will never happen again. He was wrong. Now I got two Pepsi rats posted on the hearth.
All I’m trying to tell you is that you are not alone. If there is an urban legend or rare disease only experienced by an obscene percentage of the population, I too have had it happen to me. I also fought the demon Smurf.

If there’s still a Taco Cabana there(randomly hundreds of mile from any other TC locations, and with their own unique menu), I say go for that.
If Taco Cabana is in the habit of placing franchises hundreds of miles away from other TC locations, I surely wish they’d drop one in my neck of the woods.

Since I’ve never had the pleasure of eating at a Taco Cabana, could you please enlighten me as to why it’s better than any other Mexican fast food?
And does anyone know if the new HEB commercials have aired yet? A link would be nice if they have. :)

and I admit it’s been over a decade since I’ve been to a Taco Cabana, so my memory of the tastiness of their food may have been distorted by the passage of time. It could very well be that I would prefer the local Mexican fast food (not Taco Bell, of course, real Mexican fast food) to the Cabana’s in a head-to-head comparison.
But I’ve never found anyplace else with the beef and gravy taco that was soooo good. Unfortunately I can’t even remember the name, otherwise I’d write the Express-News’ food
