PtR Road Game Watch Party - Spurs @ Blazers: Thursday, Feb. 4th
Recently, there was a PtR meetup for the game against Chicago. Even though the Spurs didn't win, the meetup was pretty successful. So, we've decided to try something different - a meetup to watch a Spurs away game. And we have another member travelling from far away who will be there... that member being me. Before even posting this, there are already 3 members who have said they can come, so let's represent PtR together again.
[UPDATE: This is today, folks. Don't be afraid to let us know if you think you can make it.]
Details
The site was recommended by Hirschof, who knows the area better than I do anymore. (This place wasn't even there when I lived in SA a few years ago - I lived less than a mile from there, too.)
Location
Boston's Pizza and Sports Bar
1827 N Loop 1604 E
San Antonio, TX 78259
Time
9:00 PM Central (30 minutes before the game)
Let us know if you can come out and meet up, or if you have other suggestions - I'm flexible. It should be a lot of fun, so don't be afraid to join us in rooting on the Spurs. And don't be afraid to bring friends who aren't on PtR - I'm sending this to my friends in SA, too. I promise not to be rooting for the Blazers, either. :)

I’m going to be at the game in Portland! Going on part of the Rodeo Road Trip – will be in Sacramento the night before. Why? Because I can! I’ll wear Spurs gear and wave!
I’ll be there with janie, and I think I’ll have a good seat, too.

Coming from Hwy 281 or West 1604 (eastbound): When you go through the 281/1604 intersection you will want to enter near the Buffalo Wild Wings and not at the bank (doesn’t go through). If you miss the turn, stay in the right land and get on the little right lane loop that is just past the Lifetime Fitness Gym. Turn left at the light and you will be able to enter the shopping complex from back there.
If you are coming from the East 1604 (westbound): Take the Gold Canyon Dr exit. If you take the Hwy 281 exit, you will miss the parking lot entrance and be forced to double back around through the 281 frontage road. A big pain in the ass when there is traffic.
Notes: Boston’s is next to the Men’s Warehouse and the Genghis Grill. The complex was designed to fit around a large Santikos theater complex but it was never built. So there are quite of few round-a-bouts that seem pointlessly placed.

OK folks, I’m off to Florida this morning, but I will definitely be there Thursday night. Email me if you need more info, since I can access that from my phone.
Don't compare RJ to Sean unless he's coming up clutch while playing with a failing kidney.
Can we get a poll up on here to see how many people are going?

I don’t think many people are coming. Phoenix just isn’t as impressive as Argentina…especially if you lived here before and aren’t tasting tacos for the first time.
Jennifer and I are both going to go so that’s 2. With work on Friday and a 9:30 tipoff, I might speed home at halftime though. I should get there real early though after I have dinner near there.
I might have to do the same thing at half since I get up at 5:45.

Eh, sorry. This is really the first time I’ve had a chance to update the thread. I’m in town now… dead tired after driving 19 hours through that nastiness between here and FL, but here. I’ll move this back to the top of the page, since I did get a few emails from folks who were interested.

How many people are we looking at? I can try to get a few tables held for us.

I wish I could do this! I am already committed to watching a movie with a friend, however. Will there be another one while Tim is in town?

Nah, only here for about 24 hours. I might be back around the holidays, but not until then. :-/

Tim, I can’t make it. Sorry. I was looking forward to it.

So a Derek Anderson Spurs jersey should be pretty easy to spot, no?

Go to the bar area to the right. If that’s what you’re sporting then I think we can flag you down

hey Latin, Blazer fan checking in. Did you get to go up the gorge? It’s gorgeous, and fairly good weather today.
I hope you love the Rose Garden but come away completely despondent after a heartbreaking loss.

Y’all must’ve sent the crappy weather down here, then. It’s been dreary/overcast/drizzling all day here in College Station. :P

Aside from the obvious, I had a lovely time—very nice to see them!
Hilariously maladjusted. But for all the right reasons.
Always turning up.
Just what is it that makes a penny “bad?” I suppose the saying refers to a counterfeit coin?
Who would go to the trouble of counterfeiting a penny?
At what point will I actually turn to the work on my desk?

I think the saying might go back to a time when coins were worth counterfeiting.
I think you might actually actually turn to the work on your desk about the time I get to mine.
Hilariously maladjusted. But for all the right reasons.
Et voila:
“BAD PENNY — The phrase usually is heard in this country (U.S.) as ‘A bad penny always turns up,’ meaning that a no-good person can be counted upon to come back again and again. The expression was originally English and the unit of currency referred to was the shilling. Sir Walter Scott, in one of his early nineteenth-century novels, whereto: ‘Bring back Darsie? Little doubt of that. The bad shilling is sure enough to come back again.’” From “Morris Dictionary of Word and Phrase Origins” by William and Mary Morris (HarperCollins, New York, 1977, 1988).

Or if you like,
I’ve never heard the expression ‘bad shilling’ in UK use. That’s probably a peculiarity of Scott’s. (Some authors do rewrite well-known expressions – Somerset Maugham is notorious for it.) The bad penny probably dates from the days of the silver penny (copper started to come in in 1797 – made by Boulton and Watt, even, and weighing a full ounce) and at times the quality of the silver in them was not up to what people thought it should be. As Dave says, if you got one of these duff pennies, you would spend it as quickly as you could. And by a certain law, it was bound to come back to you in change again, especially in smaller towns, where the supply of money was more restricted.

What? Oh, sorry, I was playing FarmVille on Facebook.

I left at half and made it home right after the scoring droughts/slowdowns of the 3rd quarter. I was still an hour late to work this morning because I still stayed up freaking late. The game sucked. The company was cool as I already see over half of them every week anyways. Q and Tim are both awesome too.
The food looked good but I hate before. I didn’t care for Boston’s though. The service was nonexistant pretty much and only one side of the table had decent views of the better tv’s. Even then, someone felt college deserved 3 tv’s to the Spurs 2. I had heard tales of their tunable table speakers, but was overall disappointed with those too. I feel like LatinD.
I had fun, despite being completely exhausted. I was probably a terrible host because of that, though. It’s good to have faces to go with some of the names around here. :D
