Deja Vu, Yucky Stew

Here's your quick recap of tonight's game.

You can read about what happened tonight here and here.

As for me, I hung out some PtR'ers and had a mostly enjoyable evening.

Completely speechless after tonight’s catastrophe. Is it too late to reverse the Milwaukee trade and get Oberto, Bowen, and Thomas back?

by Wordster009 on Jan 26, 2010 2:14 AM CST reply actions

hell, I would trade KT or Oberto for RJ straight up.

imagine if we just had last year’s team with Ginobili back and acquiring Blair (and maybe even McDyees), posing the question WHY THE HELL DID WE WASTE MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE?

by Wordster009 on Jan 26, 2010 2:42 AM CST up reply actions

You should totally bring this back.

Until we win, I suggest we use tlo’s brilliance as our Quick Cap (just following the bossman’s lead).

Yeah. But this is beyond fuck. It’s not quite the level of fuckity fuck fuck, but it’s getting there. If it reaches F3, then another rant post would be in order.

supposedly, yahoo sports just announced that the Spurs are interested in getting Amare from PHX (AKA the only team who sucks even more than us right now); I don’t like that at all since his defense is atrocious, but at least it shows that the front office is trying to do something which is an encouraging sign

by Wordster009 on Jan 27, 2010 12:28 AM CST up reply actions

I think it’s a smokescreen for something better. CIA Pop is working hard – have you seen how overworked he looks in the latest interview from practice today?

“he’ll figure it out”, hope that’s a code name for trade

forgot to add, it’s not even funny how bad we are going to lose our next three games and suck on the rodeo trip, this is a horrible time for the Spurs nation; i was looking forward to attending the Spurs/Clips game, but the way we are playing we would be lucky to even win; Feb. 18th

by Wordster009 on Jan 27, 2010 12:29 PM CST up reply actions

Pop looked real “happy” in that interview

by spursfan87 on Jan 27, 2010 2:01 PM CST up reply actions

How about Gooden, he’s playing great for the mavs.

After the housemate got home from working the game last night, I stuck my head into his office to ask him about it. Before I could get my mouth open, he said, “It’s over. They’re done.”

“Wait, what?”

“Sorry.”

“So how do we fix it?”

“This team is unfixable.”

Then I went back to bed and had nightmares about my ears bleeding.

to get to last year’s injured record, we need to go 29-10 to finish the season…..

we have 9 segababa’s left too….

by BlaseE on Jan 26, 2010 8:34 AM CST reply actions

We are certainly not going to make it.

three straight home losses to teams below us in the standings. sad state of affairs.

we cant stop anyone anymore. i think the theory was to overhaul the roster and bring guys in that we could turn into better defenders. instead, the oppostie is happening. our news guys like blair (dare i say it), dice and RJ seem to be making the likes of tim, manu and roger mason worse defenders.

by bones on Jan 26, 2010 8:35 AM CST reply actions

you know you suck when you get 15 more FGA’s and 8 more FTA’s than your opponent and you still can’t win

without Mason’s 2 of 3 from the 3 point line, our team went 1 of 11 and Manu took 5 to get his 1……

did anyone else not notice Bogans got a DNP-CD?

by BlaseE on Jan 26, 2010 9:30 AM CST reply actions

Yeah, we did notice the Bogans DNP-CD. We also noticed that the Spurs only played 8 guys. Yeah, 8.

Bogans, Ian, Bonner, and Ratliff all got DNP-CD.

We specialize in misinformation around here. Facts and stats just get in the way.

by Wayne Vore (ATS) on Jan 26, 2010 9:39 AM CST up reply actions

I was going to comment the same, that looked more like a play-off rotation than anything.

by xman130 on Jan 26, 2010 9:58 AM CST up reply actions

to be a playoff rotation, you have to be among the first eight teams, which is far from guaranteed with this team.

by biolb on Jan 26, 2010 10:34 AM CST up reply actions

ROFL, playoffs.

The Spurs - now playing like sh*t again!

by Tim C. on Jan 26, 2010 11:23 AM CST up reply actions

WTF

Let me see if I got this straight: Pop says our offense is fine, it’s our defense that sucks. So we play a team whose only chance of winning is with great play from their point guard. Sure enough, it doesn’t take long to figure out that he’s keeping the Bulls in the game and kicking our ass. So what of the guy who was brought in with the specific intent of stopping or at least slowing down opposing teams top perimeter players? He records a DNP. Could he have done much to stop Rose? We’ll never know. Pop is full of shit.

by agutierrez on Jan 26, 2010 11:59 AM CST reply actions

agreed. bogans, though he hasnt been that good lately, should have at least gotten a chance last evening at some point.

by bones on Jan 26, 2010 2:13 PM CST up reply actions

Another thing I’ve noticed is that George Hill is a good one-on-one defender, but he’s not very good at getting through screens. When he goes over the top, a 2-on-1 mismatch is created since he doesn’t recover well. When he goes under, he leaves the man wide open for the jumper.

Hill is also spotty when guarding small/quick guards, while he does a decent job, I think he’s better against 2-guards and small forwards than he is vs quick point guards like Rose.

by xman130 on Jan 26, 2010 1:38 PM CST reply actions

I will take a guess that you are talking about the constant Kirk-Miller p/r they were running over and over in the second half resulting in both Blair and Hill on Kirk with Miller left open few feet away most of the times.
I think Miller stroked two threes of that as well as one drive and maybe missed one jumper during that series. Blair adjusted once decently resulting in that miss. The rest of the series was just horrible communication(if at all any) between Hill and Blair.

by Lauri on Jan 26, 2010 4:32 PM CST up reply actions

twitter is so fast that they could probably communicate who is going to do what in any specific p/r on the sport through it… maybe it would be better than talking…

Maybe if it included enough “LOL!”s, Blair would be able to defend it better.

DING DING DING!

Well, I’m sure you could have mentioned any of the 100s of times it’s happened before and you would have gotten my same response, but yes, that’s what I meant. I don’t know what in the world ever happened to those aggressive showings by the bigs, trapping at the top of the key, forcing the PG to dribble back out or reverse the ball. This would of course allow everyone else to recover, but nooooooo, that’s not possible apparently. We have the big show, get in the way of the defender trying to catch up and now we have a 2-on-1 or a 2-on-none.

Ugh, I’m getting aggravated just typing this up…

by xman130 on Jan 26, 2010 4:32 PM CST up reply actions

I advocated this last week and I will say it again: Ginobli makes BAD decisions (just see the two end of 4th quarter blunders). It’s time for him to go.

by BAV on Jan 26, 2010 2:32 PM CST reply actions

driving in to get an easy to or draw contact and stop the clock?

by BlaseE on Jan 26, 2010 2:50 PM CST up reply actions

easy two^*

he drew contact but not enough….it wasn’t a terrible plan the way we were shooting last night

by BlaseE on Jan 26, 2010 2:51 PM CST up reply actions

He did a couple of bad things, but he was also the spark that gave us hope in the first place. I still think he is a major positive overall, especially wrt bringing up the energy level that this team really lacks.

by swgeek on Jan 26, 2010 3:33 PM CST up reply actions

Nice recap, Wayne. If you hadn’t been on the hook for it, I was going to pull the same crap, by linking to the previous Quick Caps. Deja vu indeedy.
