Bruce Almighty
I love how Popovich dressed up for the occasion. Geez. Not only is it a Vikings t-shirt, it appears to be about a decade old. (He probably still wears the same shirt eight years later.) Another classic “get over yourself” moment from Pop. Sign on the dotted line, kid? OK, let’s get back to practice…
I love to watch many of the Spurs players. It is so satisfying to see them win doing things the right way. But Bruce is my favorite, and I will definitely miss his presence. I will miss watching his feet move as he relentlessly shadows his man. I do want to see his number up in the rafters. He’s a three time champ, and played an absolutely crucial role in each of those three seasons.
I was in the checkout line in Target one time and felt this big shadow blot out the lights. I turned around and there was Bruce Bowen getting some groceries. The man is enormous. Maybe the largest head I have ever seen. I was too awed to ask for an autograph, but I wish I had.
Favorite Bruce Bowen memories. The block of Nowitski. The twenty-seven points against the Lakers. Each and every player he defended pouting and crying to the refs, the media, and their mommies.
All the best, Bruce. San Antonio loves you, and we hope you make it a permanent home for you and your beautiful family. Next time I see you, I’m going to abandon my self respect and hound you for an autograph.
my favorite bruce moment was his block of billups at the end of game seven in 2005.
chauncy had been killing us the whole damn series long. and at the end, bruce was there to snuff him out.
i can’t believe i never got his jersey either! that sucks.

Exactly! My best Bruce moment, right there.

Tiago….Chauncey was completely enveloped within Bruces wingspan…
And the thing that I think escapes people, is that Tony was forced to guard Bowens man, allstar Richard Hamilton in that final quarter.
Parker was glued to Rip, and Rips strength of losing his man off of screens was for naught in that final stanza. Tony Parker saw to that.
A slight 6ft nothing point guard taking the 6ft 7 inch allstar guard out of the biggest game in Basketball.
yeah, tony played great defense down the stretch in that one. if memory serves, he forced rip into a bad shot in one of the final moments of that game.
tony, bruce, and manu really shut down detroit’s back court ( + prince) in the last quarter.
i hope our perimeter players (tony, manu, rj, georgie, malik – and to a lessor extent fin and r-mas) are ready to bring that same type of defensive intensity this year.

Pop looks like every gym coach I ever had.

Shit, can you imagine showing up 1st day of jr high/middle school and having Pop as your gym teacher? (Actually he’d probably be a pretty good one once you got used to him.)
