My left foot has already found its ideal Halloween outfit... No, seriously, can anybody guess what are these for? /// Parece que mi pie izquierdo ya esta listo para Halloween... No, en serio, quién adivina o sabe para que sirve esto?

Looks like gradual but steady mate infusions to the foot to help it heal properly. Sort of like drip irrigation.

Looks like tiny Epcot Centers.

Hilariously maladjusted. But for all the right reasons.

given that NBA 2k10 and NBA Live are fixing to drop in about 2 weeks I figure he wouldn’t be doing motion capture for any video game right now.

unless he already did the motion capture and they let him keep the outfit.

by r21x on Sep 25, 2009 10:54 PM CDT reply actions

Hmm. Maybe motion capture on his foot is part of the healing assesment. He mentioned in an interview that he was going to have a " bio-mechanics " study done. I wasnt aware that they could use motion capture technology to assess healing….

Yes, like the other ones said, it looks like those motion capture dots they put on people, he should put a picture where he’s wearing the full suit, that should be popular with the female PTR-ers. Also, seems like someone is a little tanned.

Im going to go with those are some type of markers that help assess the healing process when the foot is being imaged.

by alamobro on Sep 25, 2009 11:56 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah, those devices record your movement so it can be studied digitally. I had that done back in the day when I tore a muscle in my back as part of my rehab process. It allows specialists to really study your movements so weakened muscles can be targeted for rehab. At least, that was my experience with them.

He’s said tonight that it’s part of a biomechanics study. I think a more original explanation is that it’s to light his foot so he can see his laptop on the floor BEFORE he steps on the screen. If you’ve followed him on Facebook for a while you know that is what happened last spring. His foot left a really interesting impression on the LCD display!

by janieannie on Sep 26, 2009 8:44 PM CDT reply actions

And the answer is...

(From Manu’s Twitter)

“No big deal, it was just a study but with the technology of videogames and movies, for research purposes /// Era solo un estudio, con la tecnología usada en videojuegos pelis, pero para investigación nomás. Solo me pareció cómico como quedaba mi pie, por eso compartí.”

hmm, should we be worried?

We should be worried, but not because of this. This season will be as successful as his ankle allows it to be.

But as far as the photo goes, I think they are just covering all the bases. Just making sure his range of motion is good and he has the correct flexibility. This test is really just taking a more detailed look at his ankle. They basically make you use your injured ankle and see if you are overcompensating for it. They will compare your injured ankle to your healthy one to make sure the movements mirror each other when you jump, change direction, and run.

Will he have to wear those during games?

I still don’t get it. What is his foot going as for Halloween? A person doing mocap? A foot doing biomechanics study?

You’re subtle — but not everybody ignores it when you finesse a little dig like that.

Just remember, you’re being watched.
